I've witnessed 3 intubations. 2 in the field 1 in the hospital. Only 2 that was difficult. 1st one that was difficult the paramedic only had me the EMTB, and after we were unsuccessful with the first try we did a king airway. Being that we wanted the airway to be done while we went to start the IV IO drill. The 2nd was with flying a patient out. The nurse didn't get it the first two times, then the medic tried and it was successful. So I'm wondering why didn't the chief or attending didn't intervene, being that the resident was unsuccessful during the first go round.

Exactly as The Commuter said, it takes time an experience. I asked a lot of questions and I jumped on any thing that required new education. Go to conferences, look for classes on the novice nurse that helps expand your skill set, and must of all find a "MENTOR", that is seasoned and you trust. This will help you with new knowledge and when you have questions you won't feel like you are asking stupid questions. Keep your head up and enjoy helping others, before you know it you will be preventing others.

Congrats, I have worked as a pediatric LPN since 2010, first job ever. My nurse manager created a position for me when I was a care partner, so that after I took my nclex I would have a position. What I would say is learn your vaccines and age groups. Refresh on dosage calculation ranges based on kg (min- max). Remember your formulas of trying to find X. Other than that always remember you have more than one patient; parents and patient. Enjoy your adventure in Peds.

I'm a pediatric nurse. Now I'm the nurse for adolescents. I love emergency care first, which I am a certified emergency medical technician basic. With that certification I can respond to emergencies in my building and help those that are struggling in the moment of their pediatric patient having emergency difficulties. This is why I love nursing.

I love the different sectors nursing offer. I love when I see some of my patient's in my daughter school, and they ask her if I am her mom? Because I am their favorite nurse. That puts a smile on my face and make me appreciate being a pediatric nurse.?

team forum, it's up to you. On what career path is right for you. If you have kids and cannot devote 4 years of education then go for the LPN. I had the same situation. I had to keep applying if I didn't get in to nursing school for RN and I didn't have the time to wait. So I decided to do my LPN and then continue my education at the same time at my own pace, to bridge to my RN. This kept me knowledgable and kept my career opportunities open so that my work ethic could be displayed so it could guarantee me a spot with my current employer that would not want to let me go after I obtained my RN. In a nut shell. Do what works for you at this time and weigh your options while setting long and short term goals for whatever plan you do decide.

I have to say, I wish I could work 2 or 3 twelve hour shifts. I work Monday thru Friday at a full time career as an LPN. Every other weekend as a casual employee as an LPN charge nurse. I have been on vacation and go back tomorrow and wish I took until Friday. Sometimes I feel I have no life because of school, but I am very ambitious. I have been on vacation and still read articles about nursing, EMT, and EBOLA with education but when you LOVE your profession you can't help it. So I have a life when my friends tend to become livid at me for not giving any attention to them and force me out of the books and to live a little. Also, since my vacation I have worked out every day effortless than making my self work out the two or one day a week I do get in. So as a nurse regardless of your shift you have to find WORK LIFE BALANCE...? And enjoy your profession.

I feel for you. I work with adolescent patients and I have a 14 year old. With that said I am a big bully advocate. This is not the health care world but some people use being a seasoned individual as their EGO. I would turn them in to the administrator at the school, especially your instructor. I always throw out their to the children when you feel you are being bullied embrace it with what ever they said. For instance my daughter is in a lot of advance classes and wear glasses and of course other kids would tear her down in the 7th grade. I told her let's fight back quietly. We brought nerd shirts that said nerd and brought shirts that were made and said I am a nerd who will be the next president. No one had nothing else to say once they had nothing to talk about. No one has called her a nerd since. When it comes to it reverse psychology always work with humans.

I have to say, I can't see how you all do it. Since I have been a nurse(3 yr) I have only did OP clinic, and I complain about parents and the way they act.lord my job seems like a piece of cake. Hats off to all of you on LTC. I do understand the pressure you all be under because I volunteer for an EMS agency, I am an EMT also, so I can have a mix of adult and peds so I keep my cert in date. But if I had to pull and lift all day my body will take a toll on me. So,kudos to you all :-)

I am sorry to hear you did not pass, but don't give up. I did not fail my nclex but I thought I was. I started out confident knowing the computer will cut of on 75. I was cruising through the whole test and when I look there was question #82,83, 84 etc. I said:" what is going on". So it prompt me to take a break. I member in the Kaplan it says if it tells you to take break,take a break, so I did. I went in the restroom and prayed and I gave my self a pep talk. I said what am I doing wrong? I told my self I need to stop cruising because there is no way I could be getting these answered wrong. I felt maybe the test feel I am taking to long with my answer's. So I had 2 hours and 29mins left. And was on question #111. I went back and started speeding up. I looked it cut off on quequestion 170 in 45 min. I went home did Pearson cue trick with a big clump in my throat. I got the good pop up. So I guess its not only how many questions you got right it's about how long it took you to answer the question.? I am only assuming. Keep your had up and look at the link that's on here it is called SPIDER IT HELPS WITH DATA QUESTION it helped me.

I would give it until Monday. Because the state might be closed today. I took mine on a Wednesday and did not find out until Tuesday, because they took friday of before memorial day. I got the good pop up and that's what kept me from going insane.

If you took your test in Virginia with in 48 hours you should be able to call the board of nursing and find out if you have a license. With in 72 hours you should be able to look it up on the nursing web site. If all fails contact your school to make sure your fees were paid in full or you don't owe anything to the school. You can also check the nursing website and try to register for a license and it will tell you make all these pass words and your summary should come up with everything that was issued to the state for eligibility for to test. I did all of that, because I was one who took the test one day before a holiday on a friday and a weekend after it.

I feel bad for those lpn's. I would do the unemployment and find another job. Apparently in that state they most be trying to go magnet and changing there scope of practice. It sounds like they just want to lay them off but don't want to be hit with sometype of lawsuit. I suggest for all the lpn's to get ur ducks in a row and all call the same day and say: being that my services are no longer needed will not be returning. It hurts patient care but it's hurting patient care now with putting the burden on the RN anyway.

I have been an Lpn for 13 months and where I work I am the go-to person. Maybe because I have emergency care experience also but they trust me. Im also bridging into my Rn now, as I planned to do not because no one told me to go back to school this was my plan or wait on a waiting list for Rn school forever. But as an LPN I am not hindered in by my title I am always taking classes about nursing, going to seminars, and reading articles, so I can stay on top of my game. I work with alot of Rn's and they ask me questions,they never belittle me, or question me decisions. Maybe because I make myself unstoppable and very educated. At the end of the day it's not about your title because regardless if you are a Rn,Dr,aide,cma,LPN,emt,Np,medic etc, at the end of the day with new technology it's about what you know now and what you are continuing to learn or you will be replaced with someone who is more advanced and knowledgeable than you.

I am an LPN also, and where I work we have to take 15Ceu's a year for our license including Rn's. With that said I went to a class called compassion and fatigue. It talked about burn out and being to compassionate for your patients that you don't take care of yourself first and you end up moving on because you can't take it any more. I believe my friend it's time for you to move on. First know why you are moving on, not because you don't love nursing but because you Love yourself more and you are sinking faster than you can swim. If I was in your shoes I would put in for a vacation and start my new journey in looking for a new job in your career as an LPN. Don't due emailing physically go to clinics with your resume and cover letter in hand or Dr. Offices,urgent care clinics or home health recruiting agencies. My friend did this and she found a job in two days. I can tell you Love being a nurse or you wouldn't be here posting your concerns for advice, take hold of the situation before the situation take hold of you.

I work in VA as an LPN in a pediatric clinic. I started out as an (carepartner) umbrella term for emt,nursing student in med surg,medical assistant, and cna. I am also an emt-b that's how I worked as an carepartner first. I work in a clinic with NO cma. The clinic I work at is under hospital scope of practice because it's a clinic for a hospital. Reasoning being NO unlicensed personnel can pass medicines or give vaccines. If you notice everyone under that umbrella term has no license only certificates regardless of the education. We also have paramedics that work there they are separate and are separate and still cannot function as license staff they function only as paramedics because in the field they function just like and RN /doctor, but they cannot perform any duties as if they were in the field like intubate. I went to school with cma some due receive associate degrees, but based of your state scope of practice regardless of what you learned in school you can only due what your state says you can do.

I know in Richmond they have an RN to bachelors program. I thought about goin back to MCI also but I think about the triumphs also that really isn't worth it. So I just stick to my guns. I always remind myself if I go back to MCI then I have to back and do the same. Pre'reqs over for my bachelors.

I am going threw the same thing. I went to MCI also. I blame myself for not doing my research first because listening to other people got me in this situation. I took the LPN program wishing now that I took it in CC but now I find my self back at a CC retaking all these pre reps that fill like there is no end to them because they change the curriculum so often that you think you are done but now they want except that credit you have to take a higher credit. With all that said I am still in CC really don't care how long it takes because I want a bachelors after this so no more schools for me that are good for time but are hard on the pockets and hurt you in the long run.:idea:

I've read so many blogs about new nurses not finding jobs. I don't know why schools don't require nursing students to get a job in the health care field while in school at least PRN work. Out of my class that graduated (april 2010) 2 of us have jobs and that's because we were already working in the health care field. Everyone else in our class is stil looking for jobs. I know about 2 schools that tells there students to get PCT tech positions or care partner positions, just to have meat to go with students resume or so they can be offered a position before the next person.... So my question is Why don't nursing schools that require you to take a HESI exit exam,require you to do an interview with your so called recruiter for the school, and tell you nursing is high in demand, put this as a requirement especially when they know you have no nursing or health care background you are practically starting from scratch????????

You might need to check your BON to see if your school forgot to seen something that is reqired for you to test... I know that happens alot and in VA you must pay your fees before sitting for the test and send your transcript from your school. Also in relation to job search try to feel in applications for carepartners,PCT techs, or volunteer for a couple of hours in a nursing home that way you can gain some experience and you won't forget what you've learned.
