  1. Best HH GPS?

I also have a Garmin nuvi (low end about $100) and it is GREAT. I was just telling my hubby today that my job would be 100 X's harder without it!
  2. OASIS nurses??

I am currently a Private Duty RN (pediatrics), have been for 4 years. I really do not like my job because I am BORED!! I have an interview tomorrow for a position as an Oasis Nurse with a Home Health company. I did not even know there was such a thi...
  3. OASIS nurses??

Well, I LOVE it so far! I'm doing mostly SOC and recerts right now. But I did regular visits for the first few weeks. The company I work for is EXTREMELY organized and really care about the nurses. Good luck to you!
  4. help me with answers to test

the answer to the Hirschsprungs question will more than likely be "ribbon like bowel movements"....also "failure to thrive". And I think that stool is the correct answer to the "palpable mass in abdomen of a child". Good luck to you.
  5. I'm afraid to go to school with child

I had a trach patient who also required a lot of emergency equipment and the bag that I pulled was VERY deep so everything fit in there (ambu bag, small O2 cylinder, extra trach, extra mic-key button kit, lubricant, nebulizer and all the other stuff ...
  6. I'm afraid to go to school with child

Also a backpack on wheels helps a lot! I never enjoyed going to school with my client either but did LOVE her teachers. How you do things is really up to the teacher....if the teacher doesnt mind it then just suction and do treatments as you normally...
  7. Advice PLEAAAASEE

She will more than likely continue to be considered homebound. There are many many homebound pts that have routine outpt visits, so I don't see this being a problem. My grandmother just lost her battle with this very nasty disease and she had regular...
  8. Working during nursing school

I worked at least 40 hours a week throughout nursing school, had a husband and baby. Its hard but its very doable but it is based on each individual. I am a pretty laid back person and don't get stressed easily, for a high stress person it may not be...
  9. Homebound Status

Like everyone else said.....medical appts are allowed. Even daily appts. I would assume that the chemo IS what makes them homebound since it would take a considerable and taxing effort to get to those appts. Even going out to get an occasional haircu...
  10. Home Health a good option for fairly new grad??

I just started HH as an Oasis RN (or admissions). I started on 4/5 and so far I've had 3 days of "ride-a-longs" but still have several weeks of detailed nurse orientation where I will be checked off on all the skills. I would not take a HH job that...
  11. Pregnant and in Nursing School ( Advice for a friend)

I was in nursing school when I had my daughter and I had a vaginal delivery. If she can get her doctor to write a note clearing her to be on her feet for 12 hours for one day a week, then I don't think that they can deny her. Of course if she has com...
  12. Health Care Reform: Should we all go per-diem?

When people who make a lot of money are just asked to pay their fair share like the rest of us working people, it is not stealing from the rich. And the WORKING poor (who sometimes work more than 1 job) who do not have insurance are not "laying on th...
  13. Health Care Reform: Should we all go per-diem?

Sure it is definately cheaper to see a PCP than go to the ED. Thats why we need some reform in that area. Lets attack it from that area. Lets provide incentives to make PCP more attractive, help with med school costs, better pay etc. A large portion...
  14. I got Stafford loans and private loans and worked full time the whole time I was in school. Working full time while in nursing school, while not for everyone, is totally possible. I am not very educated on all the ins/outs of loans and financial aid...
  15. As far as I know, you only give it orally for Acetaminophine overdose and via neb for thinning bronchial secretions....but I could be wrong.
  16. Health Care Reform: Should we all go per-diem?

Under the new bill, your taxes (one portion of taxes) will rise approximately $40 per month if you are an individual making $200,000 or over or couple making $250,000 per year or over. If you are, I am envious of you!!! You will also in the future be...
  17. Want to have a baby

Either have a career or have the baby. And it's unfair to your husband to expect him to carry the load of a new job fresh out of school and slap him with the responsibility of paying the bills. And it's unfair to the baby to A.) have it and go back...
  18. New Grad hired by home health

I have noticed a repeated theme on a couple threads lately that private duty is oh so boring and easy. But...I worked private duty cases for over 4 years, and I would not call the cases I worked boring nor easy. Maybe it depends on how you define "bo...
  19. New Grad hired by home health

It sounds like you are doing private duty (or extended hours) whatever you want to call it. Let me just tell you, I went into thing as a new grad and I do regret it a little. I went in as an LPN and then went thru the RN program while I worked 36 hr...
  20. OASIS nurses??

copperkettle: thanks for that very helpful advice. It really does seem that this agency is very organized. I had a general idea of HH agencies and it was that they were very unorganized and not very concerned with employee satisfaction. I work for on...
  21. OASIS nurses??

They have other RN's that do revisits and sup visits. From what I understand I will only be doing those visits that require an OASIS. Guess I will find out when I start.....
  22. OASIS nurses??

Well, of course they tell you one thing when they hire you and then may do something totally different BUT since my title is Oasis RN, my job is only to do those visits that require an Oasis. If there are not any available on a given day......then I ...
  23. OASIS nurses??

Thanks for all the positivity!lol Its ok, I dont doubt that it will be challenging. I have a business/data analyst background so I am kinda weird and enjoy paperwork. But we will see. I know it will be tough but I am gonna give it a go. And honest...
  24. OASIS nurses??

Thanks, I actually got the job!!! I am really excited and nervous too. I will be responsible (along with another Oasis RN) for performing all initial, recert, discharge assessments. I am really looking forward to the challenge and the flexibility of ...
  25. Lost my first ICU patient today

I do not see where she turned of the drip either and I reread the post many times, and she did say that the family was NOT in the room when that happened. I've lost a patient in the ICU as well but it was very peaceful and she did not wake up at all....
