  1. Now THAT'S a lab result

Lactic Acid 36.2 .... Alive, eventually trach-ed and sent to LTAC.
  2. Is anyone here currently in or has graduated the RN to BSN program at U of M? What do you think of it? How was it balancing the course load with working and family? Did you do the full time or part time program? I graduate with my ADN in two mont...
  3. NG tube irrigation

I use tap water. Most of my pts have NGT and they are almost always placed for giving meds or tube feedings.
  4. Applying for a job while still in nursing school?

Depends on the facility. Some in my city required a license to apply as a new grad. I applied 5 months before graduation to most places and landed a job 3 months before graduation.
  5. NCLEX on Monday Feb 13th

Go to the BON website for your state and search for nursing licenses. You can search anyone's name and it will give you their license number. Mine says application in process. I'm waiting for it to say active licensed with a license number. I know s...
  6. Precepting in the ICU

I'm a new grad in the ICU. I have to complete 400 hours with my preceptor working her shifts. I also have to complete about 250 classroom hours. It should cover about 15-16 weeks overall.
  7. NCLEX on Monday Feb 13th

That's the good popup! I got it today too. I'm checking our BON like crazy. Some local gals have seen their name there before they can even get the 48 hour results from Pearson.
  8. NCLEX on Monday Feb 13th

Good luck. I take mine today too.
  9. Applying before you even graduate?

I started applying in September before my December graduation. I landed a job first of November to start January 9. I will be a graduate nurse and need to take the NCLEX within 6 weeks of starting. They even pay me the day I go take it!Everyone who w...
  10. I had a 15 year career before I went to nursing school. I had two jobs, one for 5 years another for 10. I listed skills from those jobs that applied to nursing, like supervision, delegation, time management, etc. It also showed long term loyalty to m...
  11. Le Bonheur Children's Hospital

LeBonheur is going magnet. They will not hire an ADN anymore, especially a new one. That is straight from the recruiter. I talked to her three times and same story. Absolutely no ADN hires.
  12. Memphis Programs

I landed a job pregraduation from an ADN program. There are some places that won't hire new ADN, but it didn't hurt me when at hospitals that do. The Med, Methodist north, south Germantown, the VA will all hire ADN. The VA will not consider you until...
  13. Memphis Programs

Just some anecdotal advice. I've been interviewing for RN positions here in Memphis and from hiring managers, they prefer an ADN or BSN for a new nurse. They don't think the direct entry masters nurses are clinically prepared enough for them compared...
  14. RN to BSN program at University of Memphis

Thanks. I graduate in December, but am looking to possibly start June or September next year. I want to give myself some time off while orienting at my new job before jumping back into school.
  15. RN to BSN program at University of Memphis

Thank you for responding. I appreciate your insight. I too want the flexibility of online, but want the "real" university behind it. Did you start it soon after finishing your ADN or did you wait a while? And how is the admissions? Competitive ...
  16. The skinny on Magnet and BSN vs. ADN

I knew going into an ADN program that two hospitals in town would not hire a new grad ADN b/c of Magnet. Now this summer, 4 months before I graduate, two more hospitals have put in a no new ADN policy due to Magnet. For me, I was planning on gettin...
  17. Southwest Tennessee Community College

Anyone here completed Adult Health 2? Could you PM me? I have a few questions about class and clinical. Thanks!
  18. I think they are changing the Foundations book. I saw a new one in the offices a few weeks ago. The instructors of the course had it. If you want a head start, it might not hurt to email the instructor and ask her what book it is so you can read so...
  19. When I went to sign paperwork, I had to pick a clinical right then. We picked our class time and clinical day. Then received an email later with a permit for that specific class to register. The nursing annex is on walnut street south of the main ca...
  20. Congrats!! Go early to sign your paperwork. It's first come, first serve for class choice. If you need a certain day for clinical or a certain time for class, you need to be early.
  21. I am a student. I don't work there. Can't say more than that. I can say the rumor is that it is a small class, so if you met the minimums, you are probably golden.
  22. A&P II in 4 weeks?

I took A&P II and Microbiology as summer courses and it was fast and furious, but not that bad. I would not recommend taking A&P while you take nursing classes. Take it this summer and get it out of the way!
  23. I heard that the calls will go out this week. There are already folders made with all the names on them for the new students! It's traditionally been Friday, so let's hope tomorrow!
  24. I have to go tomorrow. I'll see if I can find out more info. Typical from her. She's rude 100% of the time, even to her bosses. It's very disrespectful, but they let her get away with it.
  25. It should be very soon. They were finalizing the list of alternates on Thursday when one of my cohorts was there in the office. I'm surprised they didn't call Friday. I bet you all get a call Monday.
