It's different.. and i have also seen some nurses not doing things the way we study... Many many other things are different.. But the keep telling me that i will adjust and that i would be just like them ... I don't think so ... i will things the way i studied .. and i still want to be a nurse with a heart not a Robot nurse.. !!!

Nurses is a wanted job and i really hope you can find a job somewhere .. coz being unemployed for long makes people forget what they have been trained and studied...Am sorry for what you're going through! Have you tried applying overseas..? Are u interested in working in the somewhere else where they pay very very well, such as in the Gulf countries.

Really disappointed with the reality of nursing.
I understand that its hard when ur colleagues and the staff you're working with aren't cooperative ... when the patients and everyone else turns against you. But at such time and amongst all this mess you are in , a word of thanks that you hear from and old lady .. .. or a smile you put in a kid's face.. or patient that needed you to be there beside him . I guess such moments will make you forget all ur sorrows and makes you indeed forget everything u have been through. That moment is worth all that.

"Nurses Are So Mean"
Yea i totally agree witht his post. People should try to FIX ourselves as you said. If we change own actions and then only we can promote a better nursing image. It always starts in you whether you are a nurse or any normal person . BE THE CHANGE THAT YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD.. lets make a difference in nursing instead of finding mistakes on eachother. Good post :)

Addicted Nurses.. Who to blame !
I haven't read about many conditions - not a common thing .. i don't if the media in Kuwait is covering things.. In the hospital that i intend to work in , there has been cases of nurses that took narcotics and some that sell it outside the hospital.. infact a doctor died in the ICU out of an overdose ! Yea what happen to accountability and responsibility ! What happen to all those people that entrusts us for their health and condition. Provision of code of ethics: I agree as some said that its the responsibility of the person who takes the drug . However , i see that the headnurse and anyone that knows that knows it - is responsible for taking an action or at least complaining about that nurse. And as you all said it is a criminal act. However i read online about The International Nurses Society for Addictions ( IntNSA ) .. and they help treat those nurses , prevent and find jobs sometimes for them.. They could be victims but i also doubt that .. somehow if they asked forgiveness and try to change there is always place for them .. Thanks alot everyone for the good ideas and discussion .

Why are nurses so hard on each other?
Well ! Not all nurses... you are generalizing... I have seen nurses that are harsh & bad with eachother, but they are few... We work as a team .. Team work is more important in nursing than in any other occupation. So , a way or other nurses have to be good to each other , back each other and help each other. In the unit that nurses work in - we are one family..

Addicted Nurses.. Who to blame !
I have often read about nurses that take narcotics. They take advantage of their position. When doctors order a narcotic for a patient , they exchange it with normal saline or whatsoever . Hence , patient don't get the narcotic and the nurses keeps it for them. They are Addicted ! They take narcotics... This has been common , not only in nurses but doctors too . But my issue here is where is the Code of Ethics that we follow . We have resposibility and we should monitor out own reaction .. .... ETHICS is required in any job and in any behaviour we do. What line in Code of Ethics has been violated in here? This has to be taken seriously and solved. Who we have to blame... ? The nurse who does it , the headnurse for her neglection, the system of the hospital.. or the doctor who don't recheck .. or whom ??? What is to be done.. ? Can i in certain situation call it malpractice or a crime or even negligent ? Regards, Hoope

Oh MY GOD!!! I WANT TO WORK HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WoW .. its coooooool, i wanna work there too:)

not sure if this is a normal feeling?
Well, speaking about Kuwait , as i am here and i have no idea about other countries, YES ! it is like that.. there are night shift and even m orning shift were the patients are more than the assigned staff.. Nurses will have to manage how to take 4 or 5 cases... It happens alot. And it's not right nor fair. Lack of nurses in kuwait causes this issue to be discussed in many occassions . This leads to nursing errors, stress , overload on the nurse. Maybe cooperation can help reduce a percent of this , if all nurses try to cooperate together when there is any new admissions or in any work. Team work can help alot in making the day pass easier. Good luck .

life goes on
[color=#3366ff][color=#888888][color=#888888]by: hoope[color=#888888] [color=#888888]last year nursing student [color=#888888]" my first post in the forum " [color=#888888]nurses see people in their worst conditions of time. those who are severely ill , amputated leg or arm, fractured, diagnosed with cancer or with uncured diseases . patients who are dying ; nurses witness all that and here we give not only nursing care but also emotional support . though we may feel sad , tears that can't leave our eyes , empathy & fear of losing them yet we have to do it. [color=#888888]let me share with you a story of a newly graduated nurse , betty, hired at a surgical ward. there ; where she met john 7 year old boy with an head injury from a traffic accident . he was on a ventilator , monitor & many machines, semi conscious and stable. when betty asked about his family or relatives they mentioned that they rarely visit him. betty not only saw all that but saw a young child ; neglected, alone, depressed and in a cage. [color=#888888]whenever she rubbed his hand gently he moved it mildly as if he felt it, when she sang for him his eyes tired moving towards her as if he was saying " thank you for being around , for singing for me when no one did " . i can tell he was happy thought compared to normal kids this was nothing but to him its was . [color=#888888]betty did all that with love & care . days passed and john became so sick. doctors thought that he may not make it any more. until he passed away in october 9th 1999 . the night before his death betty saw him sick & yet couldn't do anything more to help him but pray, she read some verses from the holy book as she held his hands. she was no longer a nurse at the moment but a human , but a mother , but a sister but a loving person. [color=#888888]it was a shock for her , even though everyone knew it. she couldn't eat well for days , she couldn't go to the work with passing by his room, she can't see the patients without remembering him. [color=#888888]he lived , though his life was a sorely tired. it happened calmly, on its own. the way night comes when the day is over. [color=#888888]yea ! this is the life , so harsh . we have to move on because we will see many other clients like john . we ,nurses can't be emotionless but we have to control it . we have to learn that is part of our job condolences and caring for death. our job requires more of us. people go and come; just like how john's room was occupied by another patient. [color=#888888]days pass and life goes on...
