  1. Brian Short News

Condolences to the staff, friends, and family of Brian Short. I've been a member here for a very long time. It was this site that helped me to decide which career path to take, where to complete said career path, kid with colleagues, and I also ref...
  2. The hospitalist dilemma

As an RN, I've worked ER for 6 years and critical care for 9. As a newly graduated FNP, I have accepted a job as a hospitalist/intensivist. I DO plan on returning for post-master's certs in acute care, but there is duality in my intention for doing...
  3. Recently failed ANCC n AANP

If you have a solid knowledge base, you will be able to pick out what questions are wrong. There are a few formatting errors throughout the text as well, but again...if you are reading and cross-referencing well, Leik is actually the BEST (IMO) study...
  4. What is/was your job going through grad school?

I currently work 20 hours a week in critical care (PRN)....but I go to school full time. Right now my schedule, because I can essentially walk into my unit and choose my hours, are 7p-7a on Sunday, and 11p-7a on Monday. I'm married so my husband ta...
  5. What supplies needed for FNP school :)

A Keurig!! OMG....it's been the absolute best thing I could have ever bought. Liquid motivation (in the form of black tea or coffee) has been great for those all-night paper writing/study sessions. :)
  6. Anyone working night shift and going to school

I work night shift in CCU. Before I began NP school (I go full time), I dropped to per diem, but I average 24 hours a week. I'm on my husband's insurance, so that helps. I also have two boys (11 and 16) who demand a great deal of my time as well. ...
  7. FALL NP 2013 Admissions

I got accepted to Auburn's Primary Care NP program for Summer 13! Yep....a little over a month! :0)
  8. uab 2013

I am applying for the FNP program for Fall '13 entry. You'll have to keep me updated on how things are going. :) Good luck this semester!
  9. Hospital paying for NTI? Really?

Sooo...I'm hearing some of ya'lls hospitals are paying for NTI. My hospital (in South Alabama) is not paying for jack. As a matter of fact, we aren't even getting raises this year. Let my hospital tell it, if we try to exit our jobs for the ridiculou...
  10. Planning to get RN, should I get my BSN?

Check out the BSN in 10 initiative. http://www.americannursetoday.com/article.aspx?id=5272&fid=5244 Here is my first tip as an ex-ADN, now BSN. Don't do anything just because anyone else has done it before. Always do things that are backed by ...
  11. I've googled this question until my eyes are googly. Does anyone know if any Registered Nurses currently serve in US Congress?
  12. Question: RNs currently in US Congress

You're right...she was a nurse first indeed. Thanks for the info!
  13. Question: RNs currently in US Congress

I read that Karen Bass is now a Physicians' Assistant. Was she a nurse first?
  14. Question: RNs currently in US Congress

We added four nurses? Way to go NURSES! I think I will start small. Just become a VOTING member of my state association.
  15. Hospital paying for NTI? Really?

And that makes perfect sense....mileage may vary according to hospital. I can respect giving nurses the time off even if the nurses have to absorb their own cost. Here, we may get time off to go, or we very well may not. I can also respect the nur...
  16. University South Alabama DNP - Review anyone??

I work with a couple of people who are (or were) in the USA FNP program...don't know about DNP though. Haven't heard anything favorable, though.
  17. EVERYONE is going for NP these days

I live in the Southeast (Alabama, more specifically), and I am currently working alongside 3 NPs in my CCU. There are a couple out on the floors. In this area, the market for NPs is saturated, and they are having to look countrywide for jobs. Also...
  18. AMEN!! We as a professional body are failing to see the BIGGER picture. I said on a previous thread that above all, in order to be taken more seriously as a profession as a whole, we should WANT to increase the educational requirements in order to be...
  19. Would you take THIS NP position without looking at other offers?

I would. Where are you located?
  20. Student caught stealing

Think about it like this...if you'll steal, you'll lie...if you'll lie, you'll falsify your charts. Is that a reach? Hmmmmm.
  21. Advice for future Nursing Faculty

That is the same reason I would like to go into nursing education. I enjoy students more than most do...I love to see the light bulb go off, and I've been told on numerous occasions that although I'm laid back, that actually facilitates learning beca...
  22. Older nurses taking forever to computer chart

The very title of this post unnerves me. I value and appreciate my "more experienced" nurses. I don't even like to use the term OLDER because time in this field usually equals wisdom of some sort. I've been a nurse for 11 years, and at the ripe OLD a...
  23. How did you decide to teach?

Bump...I wanna hear this too. Excellent question.
  24. BSN vs. RN Salary

denit1am, i respectfully disagree with you for a few reasons. high pass rate, much like holding a bsn, has nothing to do with the caliber of nurse the school produces. in my humble opinion, in the same light, i know nurses who have taken several trie...
  25. BSN vs. RN Salary

I agree with you wholeheartedly in the fact that management and leadership skills either inborn or acquired. Great managers have been found on the ADN level with appropriate instruction in management and leadership. Great managers have been found on ...
