    SW Boces Entrance Exam

Hi everyone!! I applied to Southern Westchester Boces and I am scheduled to take my entrance exam next Thursday. I am looking for anyone who has attended or has recently been accepted to the school. Or even anyone who knows anything about the test and scores needed in order to get accepted. I'm getting very nervous about the exam and any advice would be appreciated. I am curious to know how students are accepted - what scores are they looking for? Thank you!

    NSLIJ Hiring Process

Hi all! I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the hiring process at NSLIJ. I applied online for a position on 6/25 & was called on 7/9 by a nurse recruiter. We spoke for a few minutes about the position and she also asked me a few questions. She then set up an interview to meet the Director of the department that same Friday (7/11). I feel like the interview went well & ran pretty long (I'd say about 40 minutes), and at the end, the Director gave me her card & told me that she promised to be in touch. She also told me to make sure to send my references to the nurse recruiter that I spoke to. She took the time to walk me out of the office, and then we shook hands, & I once again thanked her for taking the time for meeting with me. The next morning, I made sure to put a thank you card in the mail for her. On Monday, I sent my references to the recruiter as requested. The recruiter then contacted me & told me that she had to send me a link where I would then have to enter my reference information. The 5 references will then be sent an email with a link, which will enable them to fill out a survey about me. I completed this on Monday & all of my references completed their surveys by Thursday. I did email the nurse recruiter in between, on Wednesday, just to follow up & see what the next steps were. She responded that she will contact me back once all of my references came back. The waiting is the worst part of this process. I want this position SO bad.. & every day, I find myself staring at my phone or constantly checking my email just waiting for a response. Has anyone had an experience where they were asked for references & then offered a job shortly after? Does reference checking pretty much mean that I got the job? I'm not sure what the next step would be. Usually, a first interview would be with HR or a recruiter & then a 2nd would be with the director or manager of the department. Since I went on my first interview with the director of the department, would I just get an offer? If anyone has any information about their hiring process or just their experiences, that would be great! I'm trying to stay positive!!!! Sorry for the lengthy post.

Saint Paul's School of Nursing May 2017

    Helene fuld

Hi how are you?! I took the entrance exam for Helene Fuld back in October. Are you beginning the chem/math exam in January??
  5. MrsPerezLPN

    NYC LPN to RN Program?

Depends on your location. Manhattan? There's Helene Fuld, which offers a 12, 18 or 24 month LPN to RN program, which is located in Harlem. They do have a requirement that you must work one year as an LPN before applying. You can bypass this requirement by scoring an 85 or above on all of your nursing classes. I am an LPN and I've been doing pretty extensive research on schools that offer an LPN to RN bridge program in my area (Queens/Long Island). I applied to my local community college, but ultimately decided against it. They aren't the easiest programs to get accepted to - they require prerequisites and you will most likely be waitlisted, as there are so many applicants and very little seats. If you are interested in going right for your BSN, look into Molloy College (located in Rockville Center). They offer an LPN to BSN program, and you can complete it in 3 years. This was my top choice, but unfortunately they do not offer an evening program. Best of luck to you!

How can I balance work and school to be successful??

Hi! I used to work full time in a hospital from 3pm-11pm, 5 days a week while going to school from 8:30AM-2:30PM Mon-Fri. I'm not sure what your school's curriculum is like, but I do know that juggling work & school isn't easy. You do , however, have the benefit of getting out of school at 5PM, which gives you plenty of time in the evening to study for a couple of hours. You can also study on your breaks at work on the weekends. Go to school with the mindset that you CAN and WILL succeed. You can do it!

    NSLIJ Hiring Process

Hi Rreissman, I am SO sorry for the delay in response - for some reason I stopped receiving email notifications from AllNurses. Did you end up getting the position at NorthShore??

Montefiore school of nursing jan 2017

Hi everyone! To those that applied to Montefiore SON, did you have to have chemistry as a pre-req in order to be accepted into the program? I was hoping to apply to the Spring 2017 semester but unfortunately I don't have chemistry. I would hate to have to wait until January 2018.

    NSLIJ Hiring Process

Hi! I JUST received a verbal offer yesterday (how exciting!!!). I spoke to the recruiter again today and she promised me an offer letter via email today but didn't receive it. She did verbally tell me a start date & made appointments for me to go to employee health & processing (?) next week. I'm so excited, but would love to have that offer letter in hand to know that it is official! I filled out the background check form & faxed it back to the recruiter as soon as I received it.

    NSLIJ Hiring Process

Friendlyelse, I applied online, but I was referred by an employee. Even though I was referred, I still had to apply online! Still haven't heard back. I know it's a huge organization, which means things could just take time! So I'm trying not to lose hope. Good luck to you!

    NSLIJ Hiring Process

Thanks so much for your reply, DoingGodsWork. First & foremost, congratulations on your new position!! That is great!! I still have not heard back. Friday will make two weeks since the interview (which doesn't seem like a long time, but to me it feels like an eternity!!!). All of my references came back last Thursday & I thought for sure I'd get a phone call today, but unfortunately I didn't. I even reached out to the nurse recruiter via email earlier this afternoon & did not receive a response. When is the background check performed?? I figured that maybe this was the hold up, but doesn't a background check require a SSN? I look forward to your response. Thank you so much & congrats again!

    SW Boces Entrance Exam

Please look in the beginning of this thread. It has a lot of information on the Cnet test and once you apply and get a test date, you will receive a form to order the study materials. Those study materials are the exact format of the test.
  13. Hi! Just wondering if anyone here has applied to the Southern Westchester Boces LPN program beginning in September. I'm still waiting to receive my test results.. this wait is horrible! Anyone get accepted yet?
  14. I'm in the same boat as you, fgreen. I am also in an accelerated nursing program and its Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-2:30PM. I also work full-time (37.5 hours) as a nursing technician at a hospital 3PM-11PM. It's extremely overwhelming and I only completed a week so far. I can't even imagine how I'll feel a few months from now. As of now, I am having difficulty planning meals and other chores that need to be done around the house. I've been eating out A LOT lately because I'm too exhausted to go home and cook meals. Plus, I'm always on the run. I hardly even have time to go out and do food shopping. Other times, my husband does the cooking when he has time, but he's usually always on the run also. Good luck!

    SW Boces Entrance Exam

OK, because all of us on the thread were accepted into the LPN program located in Elmsford. All BOCES schools probably run things a little differently. You should definitely contact the school first thing Monday morning and tell them the situation. They should be able to help. Good luck.

    SW Boces Entrance Exam

Arodriguez, did you get accepted to Southern Westchester Boces in Elmsford, NY? Because we only had to pay $900 from two weeks of the date of our award letter and then come up with another $800 by August 30th for books/supplies.

    SW Boces Entrance Exam

Congrats to you, Gigi! SO happy for you.... and all of us... that we'll be starting this wonderful journey together. lol

Any recent BOCES grads out there..

If there are any recent BOCES graduates out there that would be kind enough to provide some information about the LPN program that you've completed, that would be excellent. A few other members and I from this site recently got accepted to Southern Westchester BOCES in Elmsford. The school will not provide us with any information and they keep telling us that we have to wait until orientation on August 30th.. (which seems like forever). So I was wondering if you can provide us with any info. If so, it would be very much appreciated. For example, what did you like/dislike about the program? How often did you study each night? Did you work? (if so, how many hrs)? Can you recommend any books or supplies? Thank you SO much!

Deedee, what a great question to ask....I'm also very curious to know the answer. To add to her question Sjessamy, how many classes are there per day & how long are each class? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks again for all your help!

    SW Boces Entrance Exam

sjessamy, thank you so much for all of the wonderful information you've provided all of us throughout the thread. It feels so good to finally get the answers to many of the questions that we've all been dying to know. Just another quick question if you don't mind, did the classes from BOCES transfer to RCC? Or did you have to retake nursing 101 etc..

    SW Boces Entrance Exam

I do the same thing. if you look on HHC.org employment opportunities, they are usually always looking for LPNs. They start them out at like 40,000 & change.

Any recent BOCES grads out there..

Thanks for the reply, Loveit25. I was wondering... do you know how they split up the classes? I know that during the day, there are 90 students that are accepted. I'm sure that they split the 90 students up into two or three different classes. Not sure if they do the same during the night program. Are there any specific reference books that I should get?! Or a drug book? Also, what color scrubs do we wear during clinics? Thanks SO much!!

She interviewed me too. She was so nice. Keep us posted on the news you receive. If you didn't seem like a lunatic, and say that you wanted to become a nurse because of the money, then I'm sure you are in!

    SW Boces Entrance Exam

Good, I'm so glad it went well. You'll get a letter within a week or so. Who interviewed you? Were any of the questions on here similar to the ones you were asked during the interview?
