  1. Just finished test for second time, 265 q's

I got 265 last time and failed. I got 265 this time again. I know of 6 people that got 265, 3 passed and 3 failed. Well, this test went much better. I felt very confident, but now I'm unsure because 265 is right on the bubble. I think if I'd ha...
  2. Tips for studying pharmacology?

I'm so overwhelmed by this class! There are so many drugs, trade names, side effects, etc. I can't possibly remember it all, so any suggestions on how to study? Thanks
  3. How to prevent fainting???

I sat in the OR last week, and loved it! No problems at all! But today, I watched a bone marrow aspiration through the sternum, and had to leave the room and sit down! I have never come so close to fainting! :uhoh21: It was pretty graphic watchi...
  4. I applied for aid, and I just wondered if I was expected to pay all my EFC (expected family contribution) towards tuition and books, or does it also include cost of living expenses? I just thought that it seems like a lot for me to pay out of pocket...
  5. Latex free bp cuff?

This is on my list of items I need. I've searched the web, and haven't seen them labeled as latex free. Would they say if they were or not? Thanks!
  6. A little dissappointed in allheart.com

I've heard great things about this site, so purchased all my supplies there. I did get a nice Littmann at a good price, but the bandage scissors are so cheap. They hurt my hands, and they're hard to work. I ordered a bp cuff, and have to return it...
  7. What's In Your Pocket?

Scissors, alcohol pads, tape, black ink pen, red ink pen, highlighter and chapstick or lip gloss. I keep my stethoscope on my neck. I also have a clip board with my kardexes on it, and it has storage inside that I keep my pocket drug book, our "che...
  8. Please share your embarrassing stories!

I'm just coming off orientation, and I've already had my share of oops! moments! I know everyone has to learn, but it's embarrassing! Anyone care to share? Last week, I hung a piggyback antibiotic, and connected it to the tubing BELOW the Alaris pu...
  9. How do u like day/evening shift?

I did most of my orientation on days, and even though it was busier, it worked out okay. I had an excellent preceptor who took her time with me, and I hope you do to. If you feel like things are moving too fast, be sure to let them know. They shou...
  10. How do u like day/evening shift?

I just started working nights (7 p to 7 a) in May. I love it! I hate getting up early in the morning, I would be tired all day, and come home and sleep on the couch most of the night. Now I try to work my 3 in a row b/c it's much easier. The firs...
  11. Lung Sounds - Im confused

thanks for the links! helpful! i thought i was hearing dim bases on 90% of the patients, and asked my preceptor if everyone is diminished or is it just me? she laughed, and said people usually are when they're in the hospital. i also learned to c...
  12. Pharmacology tips..

Write up all the classes- antibiotics, antidepressants, NSAIDS, etc. Then write the major side effects and contraindications, whether or not to take with food, etc. Study that first. Then plug in your individual drugs to each category. That way, ...
  13. Just tested for 3rd time today

I failed twice at 265. This time, I started out doing Suzanne's program, and finished about 1/2-3/4 of it. Then a Kaplan course was offered through my work, and I didn't really have a choice in taking it so I did. I've been doing everything throug...
  14. WHOA, Officially a RN!!!

i know how it feels! congratulations, rn!!! :balloons:
  15. Just tested for 3rd time today

i didn't finish suzanne's plan, and i don't recommend not finishing it. i just stopped b/c work signed me up for kaplan. what i did do from saunders, i think helped with knowledge refreshment. i think kaplan helped with the questions, because they...
  16. Have gone through ALL the Kaplan questions...

Put your books away and forget it! I was told that, and as hard as it was, I found things to do besides study. I really think it helped me to relax, and helped keep my confidence! Good luck!
  17. Question about Question Trainer 7

I did all 7 question trainers, and got in the 50s. They want you to have 65 to pass with confidence. I just passed with 75 questions, and know a few others who did also while scoring in the 50s with Kaplan. Kaplan questions are the hardest I've do...
  18. Assuming a doctors order?

I just passed with 75 questions, and always assumed you had a doctor's order for everything. Kaplan also taught us to "contact the physician" with hesitancy; it's rare that will be the answer. They want to know what you would do, not the md.
  19. 75 questions today, no idea how I did

I just passed on my 3rd try with 75 questions! Mine was mostly prioritizing, also. From what I understand, those are the higher level questions so that is a good sign. They were all who to assess first, who to discharge first, what is the priority...
  20. Just tested for 3rd time today

    i passed!!!!
  21. If you took Kaplan and then took the NCLEX...

Good for you! Send it to the "higher ups" at Kaplan, and have everyone who is willing to sign it!
  22. average study time

Great tips, Ellescorpio. I will be taking mine for the 3rd time, hopefully the last! I've done zillions of questions since before I even graduated in December. I think it also matters how much you study each day. 5 hours a day for 4 weeks is alot ...
  23. I failed TWICE111

I also failed twice, on NCLEX-RN. I took my first in February, and my second in April. I bought the Saunders book and am following Suzanne's plan this time. It stinks, but I worked too hard in nursing school to just give it all up like that. Tr...
  24. Feeling Overwhelmed!

I graduated Dec. 16. As if studying for the boards weren't stress enough, now I'm in orientation. I haven't started unit orientation yet, but I'm taking Core (classes, modules, skills checkoff, etc.). Today we had PICCs and chest tubes. I've hear...
  25. Failed again!

Look above at the thread "1st tip of my new study guide", or something like that. That's Suzanne's plan. After failing twice, it can't hurt me!
