Do not despair, the job hunt is not impossible here. I am med/surg and I had two job offers within 1 week of applying & interviewing for both. I think OR jobs are still very much needed (although I dont ever pay attention to postings for those)....
I think McKesson CareManager is terrible, too much clicking all over the place and not conducive to writing my own narrative. I am OK with Meditech. What I like most about it is that new results (for lab, radiology, etc) appear on my status board whe...
i really don't mind the 12 hour part of the job, i just really would like to work the same days every week. i'd even be willing to work every weekend (at least every saturday) in order to do it. but my scheduler could never manage to work it out for ...
many a patient and/or family member has asked me about my schedule. i use it as a teaching opportunity. They are usually aware that we work 12 hours (when they realize-"gee she's been here a long time today!") I say, yes I work three days a week. Res...

I believe there are a few simplistic responses here. First-Do I believe this single episode will directly cause a person to think, "nurses are silly sexpots"? No. But as I've said in a previous post, all these historical images and outdated conceptio...

I completely agree with you. I think the show in its entirety was a blow to the image of nursing (and not just the sexy nurse get-ups). Of course, it is easier to just brush it off and say "it's all jest, people don't think that way." I don't honest...

I would definitely classify Rose as a community hospital, however, they are now much busier since University moved to Aurora. They have expanded their ER, and they are no doubt seeing more of the indigent patients that the U left behind in that side ...

I don't think nurses should to pay a price in regards to ratios & staffing just to live somewhere sunny. anyways, there's plenty of sunshine in CO, just no beaches! :)
sarita279 replied to sistasoul's topic in Med-Surg
Wow! I can't believe the ratios out there. I have worked at two hospitals (tele and med-surg) and the ratio has always been 4/1 on days, and 4 to 5/1 on nights. At my current hospital, they DO take acuites into account and because of that we are gett...
as others have already mentioned, D5 doesn't supply a large amount of dextrose. i learned in a diabetes class that it only supplies about 5g of sugar, which is equivalant to a lifesaver/hr when run at approx. 100ml/hr.

I went through an accelerated program and I don't feel looked down upon at all because of that fact. (it's a different story when it comes to being a med-surg RN, but I digress). My accelerated program was intense and challenging. Most of the people...

Come on, Aurora is not that bad. It is a huge suburb with good parts and bad parts, just like any large city. There are some very nice areas actually that don't cost an arm and leg. And btw, where have the school shootings been taking place in Colora...

i had to laugh at your post...funny because it's true. i'm a native and i couldn't agree more with your post. people always complain "people from colorado don't know how to drive" and i always correct them " No, people who are ACTUALLY FROM colorado ...
I personally like Dickies Hip Flip boot cut pants. Here is a link: http://www.allheart.com/di53102.html I think these pants tend to run small, so I"d order a size up from what you think. I never wear the waist band flipped over through. There are ...
I was in the same boat! totally insane that i couldn't shadow a nurse. you would think with said nursing shortage....but anyways.. However, I could shadow a doctor. No one gave him any grief about it. So strange how you can shadow a doctor but not a...

HCA hospitals (I think it's all HCA hospitals) will give you up to 250/month for student loan payments, you just show them your monthly statement. There's no contract/time commitment either. Of course, this is once you are already and employee!

Children's is definitely the main place for ped. oncology. As a new grad, it is to your advantage going to Regis if you want to work at Children's. Make sure you do your peds rotation there, and kiss major *** while doing that rotation. :) I'm not s...
PLease, please, please, can I start this topic again? Except for the last post I saw, I thought this thread had some great discussion. I am going through this matter right now....almost off of orientation and considering a move outside of the hosp...
