  1. I just started at a new job, and haven't had to do a med pass in quite some time. The unit I am on is small, about 20 patients. Morning meds are to be started at 6am. My patients have an average of four meds a piece, and I need to be done by 645 to g...
  2. I can't start at 6. There's a reason I can't go into, but it has to be 630. I just can't ever see myself getting this all done in 15 minutes.
  3. Sterilize and Reuse Mask

    Thanks, I had no idea.
  4. Sterilize and Reuse Mask

The president also said we can do this. He had no specifics on this either. Because it can't be done.
  5. I feel very torn

I am really struggling with this, so much so that I've erased this a dozen times. I am on the old side, and a severe asthmatic who has had seven bouts with pneumonia in my life. The position I'm working in now is at the point of asking staff to pleas...
  6. Headache for three weeks

Ok, I am getting just a LITTLE frustrated with this; the short version of my story is as follows: had a headache which encompassed the entire top half of my head (from top lip up) for a week which did not respond to OTC meds. Also had a severe incr...
  7. Headache for three weeks

I had been taking Tylenol #3, which really didn't do anything except make me MORE tired. Motrin 800 did nothing as well. The IV Toradol worked great, but that is, obviously, not practical for everyday use! Oh, and no, I don't have a fever, but I d...
  8. Headache for three weeks

Not a stiff neck, just a lot of tension, I think. I too, thought Cipro should have been working by now, but she did put my on it for 20 days, so I thought maybe it too longer. I know that sinus infections can be tough to treat, but man, I am sick o...
  9. I was a radio announcer/DJ for seven years before I became a nurse. I got out because of a multitude of things: awful pay, no benefits, no job security, and because I realized I was never going to be good enough to get a job in a major market where ...
  10. The head of our OB department puts his post-op c-sections on round the clock Phenergan in addition to their Morphine PCA; they are all so snowed that they could not complain of pain even if they wanted to, which is what I think he is trying to accomp...
  11. I will try to be brief here: I went to the endocrinologist and had an extensive workup done for polycystic ovarian syndrome because I am fat, hairy, have bad skin and have a mom and sister with PCOS. The doctor kept scheduling me six weeks in adva...
  12. Elevated cortisol level- what does it mean?

My calcium was fine, and no, they did not do a dexamethasone suppression test. I know that cortisol levels can be elevated at different times of the day and that these times will be different than normal for night workers, but this is the overall 2...
  13. Elevated cortisol level- what does it mean?

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I asked to speak to a nurse when I called and the nasty receptionist told me, "We don't have any nurses here," and I thought, well, THAT explains a lot right there! I have an appointment with a new endo doc for 12/2...
  14. Elevated cortisol level- what does it mean?

I am, but I checked them out and none of them should interfere with this test. As far as my doctor being there for me (which someone else posted), the doc who ordered this test refuses to have anything else to do with me at this point because I had ...

  17. How to help new mother who is very detached from baby

...the way my unit will drug screen a mom with no prenatal care, but only if she has no insurance. The ones who are well to do and were planning on a home birth with the midwife, then happened to wind up with a section, don't "need" to get drug scre...
  18. Taking Kids to the Job is it OK?

How about the time your childcare falls through (babysitter has a death in the family) and no one else is available to help you? This just happened to me recently on a night when both my husband and I had to work (our schedules overlap by three hour...
  19. Ideal work-life

All I can say is, I REALLY envy you! (I know, I am not supposed to envy, but I can't help it!) I doubt I will ever get to a point where I can spend as much time with my kids as I want; right now I am working on getting some acceptance with where I...
  20. Ideal work-life

I have in no way acheived balance, as is evidenced by the panic attacks that hit me about fifty percent of the time when I have to go to work. I work three twelves, but I commute 45 minutes each way; I feel like I have not nearly enough time with my...
  21. What comments do you hear from OB's about birth plans?

Me too, but I like where I live now, so I won't be joining you anytime soon! (Too broke to move anyhow....)

  23. What comments do you hear from OB's about birth plans?

Archaic practices abound! At an undisclosed location on the east coast, you too can experience all manner of outdated OB goodies. The weird thing is, no one else who works with me seems to think any of these things are strange or passe'. And I've ...

  25. What comments do you hear from OB's about birth plans?

They routinely give enemas in my L&D too; it is even on the standard order sheet, although not all docs will do it. BTW, we still use Demerol/Phenergan for most pain control with our sections, so that tells you something.
