  1. Can't find a job ANYWHERE

I am a new-grad LPN, just passed my NCLEX-PN on Oct. 2nd. I've been looking for anything available...I started off hoping to find a job in a hospital setting but there was a grand total of one hospital position for a LPN that I found, and it require...
  2. LPN's and unions...help me understand

I have been trying to do some independent research on this but I'm getting nowhere... It is my understanding that under a supreme court ruling, Licensed Practical Nurses cannot form their own union, because their job is "technical" (although I b...
  3. All LPNs laid off in a day

This same scenario just played out at a facility where my friend works as an RN. What ended up happening is they increased the responsibilities of the CNA's to include nursing tasks like g-tube feeds, trach care, and the like. A very unsafe situation...
  4. Nursing Interview questions

found these here: http://www.characterbasedleadership.com/health1.html have any of you been asked these on an interview? if so, which ones? interview questions for: nurses, nurse aids, cnas, lpns character quality: endurance ■ if a friend were to as...
  5. Treating the Muslim patient

It takes 2 seconds to ask a patient if they have any cultural or spiritual preferences, and most can be easily accomadated. And it can make a huge difference in thier overall experience. Regardless of what paradigm the concept arises from, wouldn't y...
  6. Community Health Corps?

I have an interview to become a member next Monday...I'm going back and forth on whether or not I should accept if it is offered. I'm a newly licensed LPN and going to school for my ASN. I haven't had any luck finding a job as an LPN yet, it's been a...
  7. Is it the time for Nursing School?

It sounds like the big "selling point" for you is the length of the program-2 years for a BSN? I didn't even know that was possible, unless it's a second degree program. But I agree with everyone else-the cost is waaay too high. Since you do have a ...
  8. New grad? Here's what you can expect..

I think the OP was trying to paint a realistic picture of what the market is like for those considering entering nursing school-NOT complaining about his personal inability to find a job. As far as the rest of your post- How do you know we haven't a...
  9. New grad? Here's what you can expect..

I'm so tempted to print this out and plaster it all over every nursing school campus in my state. They really do have no shame-if I see one more commercial for a school talking about this "nursing shortage" I'm going to scream! As for those of you wh...
  10. I'm just curious...

I've been following the ADN vs. BSN/RN vs. LPN discussions on here for quite some time. I think it's pretty apparent that some type of final decision needs to be made regarding where nursing is going as a profession. What strikes me is that rather th...
  11. Hyperkalaemia and saline

isn't 100% glucose really thick and hard to infuse? I've never given it but I was under the impression that it had to be given as a bolus, and it takes a lot of elbow grease to get it in someone.
  12. I'm just curious...

Christine just curious, what country do you live in?
  13. I'm just curious...

Thanks, and this is exactly why I'm asking these questions. I've sat on the sidelines on a lot of these debates. I get frustrated...I don't really care about "patient studies". Anyone who's taken statistics knows that you can twist them to suit any a...
  14. I'm just curious...

Really interesting to read the responses here... I always like to look at what other countries are doing...I think Canada, for example, has a pretty good approach. Their LPN's now have 2 years of education and graduate with an associated degree. To b...
  15. Passed A&P exam today!

Awesome!! Good for you!! I'm studying for A&P now...it'll be my first EC exam. I heard it was the hardest so I want to get it out of the way! Love the idea about the DVD's, I'm definately looking into that...I'm a very visual learner.
  16. Help finiding a job as a new graduate

apRN it's a good question and I wish I had the answers...for me it's a little different, because I'm an LPN currently doing a bridge program, so I include in my cover letter that I would be able to commit at least a year to the position, and would li...
  17. Help finiding a job as a new graduate

If relocation is an option, go for it! I have friends in Austin who are always trying to get me to move out there because of the nursing opportunities, and the cost of living is pretty low. Austin is a really cool little city too, lots of culture. C...
  18. I'm just curious...

Great responses so far guys, thanks! I happen to live in a state (CT) that seems to be especially proactive in pushing this agenda, so while I would like to think it's not going to actually happen, in a lot of ways it already is. The LPN scope of pra...
  19. Why does everyone need to be ACLS cert?

I'm sorry I'm having a bad day and taking it out on people who don't deserve it. Good luck to you as well-lord knows we need advocates.((Sorry for the thread hijjack too))
  20. Why does everyone need to be ACLS cert?

I don't know about others but I paid for ACLS and PALS out of pocket because I wanted to take it and figured it would look good on my resume...I think most hospitals do pay for it for their employees.
  21. Why does everyone need to be ACLS cert?

Well, I went back and retracted the post because I felt like maybe I was being too harsh but it appears my original opinion of you was correct. Congratulations on your job offers, $35 an hour to be, as you put it, a pill-pushing baby sitter sounds li...
  22. Why does everyone need to be ACLS cert?

    ............
  23. So after 2 months of completely fruitless job hunting, I got a run of good luck today and landed not one but 2 interviews! The first one is on Friday and is for a per diem position in LTC, and the other one is next week for a Patient Care Tech positi...
  24. Finally got an interview but need advice!

Well got some bad news today...the interview for tommorow was cancelled because they filled their last available position this morning. I was glad they called me so I didn't waste the trip, but it's really frustrating because I was actually supposed ...
  25. Why does everyone need to be ACLS cert?

Hm...ok I admit I'm naive to hospital politics and policies but why would they pull you from med surg to work in an acute care unit? Can they really do that without your consent? I think you are personalizing it too much...I doubt they think you are ...
