Should hospital provide and launder scrubs?

I am in far more disease and garbage in my day job as a firefighter/medic than I am as a ED nurse I do as a side job. My routine, I go straight to the basement, take off my work shoes and uniform/scrubs, and these get washed separate from the rest o...
  2. Don't know where your at, New grads around me make $19.00 to $23.00. I make near what the OP was offered working EMS 2 24 hour shifts a week. I left my last ED job as it was costing me money to work there.
  3. Last ED I worked in ran with NP and PA staff, PA or NP ran immediate care area, and PA or NP worked the ED side. They rotated from ED to Immediate care. Both were pretty hard core and had the respect of everyone.

  5. LoL I quit 2 suck nursing jobs, went into the bosses office and handed over my written 2 week resignation, both times I was told I didn't have to come back after my shift was finished!

Did you keep your nursing books?

I was lucky that I had friends in the class before me, so I didn't have to buy many books. And for a few classes I didn't buy a book at all, and passed with no issue. And the books I did buy were hardly referenced by the teaching staff. Those I did b...

    Masters or Doctorate in Anesthesia?

Any idea if the "Dr" requirement will be the same time line for NP's as well? I've been looking between the two.
  10. I worked full time and went to school full time. I was lucky that my job on the fire dept. has set days. I worked Monday and Friday. I had enough comp time, and vacation time that if I had school on work days, I could take 8 hours off. We had a lot ...
  11. WoW! How'd this go from simple personal response question to RN's vs paramedics? I work as a Paramedic Firefighter for over 20 years now. Been an RN for a few years now. I run into the RN's that think medics have an "ego" occasionally. I send em on ...

    A Pre-nursing Student who believes...

She hasn't made it past the "pre" stage. Little early to be making predictions on what her job will entail.
  13. I stopped reading after I seen "friend of a friend" and facebook. How old are you? As far as med students, and residents. I've had nothing but great encounters with both. Last year I ran into a long lost co worker, he was a Paramedic and was finishin...

"Medic" to replace the term "nurse"

I'm a Paramedic and an RN, what title should I use??
  15. I'm a paramedic full time and I never quit my FT job while going to nursing school. I've worked a few PT jobs as an RN and resigned each after a few months. Not sure what I'm going to do as far as nursing, as the little bit I've done I really don't l...

    Nursing Pin for $115

Eh, I didn't buy a pin or attend graduation. I'm doing just fine without either. Whats the point of a nursing pin again? I have never witnessed one these worn by any nurses I work with.

    Paramedic or Pre-Hospital RN?

Been a medic for 20 plus years. Finally finished my ASN last May while working full time as well. I opinion? Get your nursing first. As mentioned, some states will allow an RN to "challenge" the medic test. The majority of EMS jobs (EMT, Medic) pay c...
  18. I just caught this as I don't check in everyday. Don't beat yourself up. The first time I tried nursing school I failed out by one test question! I felt like a piece of S^*t:crying2: Try again is all I can say. Most programs allow another chance. I e...

Tips from new grads who got job offers

  21. I worked full time while going to nursing school full time its easy! Just kidding, only about the easy part. I did do both full time! Was it hard? Honestly no, not for me. I'd say there were some subjects a little more difficult than others. I gradua...

Bathing Classmates and Other Personal Boundaries?

Man there were a few fellow females I would have loved to bath! And some I would have dropped out over if I had to see them in anything but street clothes! Seriously, and you all can it take how ever you want. If some of these claims are true, and so...

fresh ideas for jobless new grads

Yes, some programs in my area are 3 to 4 months as well. Most of these programs are full time classes. Factor in required ride time as well. I may have been a little "generous":D in the time space for class. So I asked a fellow firefighter I work wit...

I've been a Paramedic for 20 years and graduated a ADN program last May. I was holding out for critical care (ED, ICU) I finally had an interview this past December for an ED and a PICU. Both looked at and favored my current background in EMS. So I w...
