    Plastic Cases-IV Fluids

Fluid requirements are based on a couple of things. I can give a quick example. 1) Fluid Deficit. (NPO time - calculated from night before) 2) Hourly maintenance fluid rate 3) Anticipated 3rd space loss (Determined by procedure and is variable to wha...

Sepsis + Antibiotics = Severe Hypotension?

SVV monitoring with the Vigelio has 3 very important limitations. 1) Patient ventilations need to be controlled (they should be intubated), because respiratory variation will skew your numbers. 2) Rhythms other than sinus (afib) will skew the number...

    Migraine treatment in er

Not necessarily in the ER, but I will give 30 mg IV Toradol and 10 mg IV Compazine along with some fluids. If patient is older than 60, I will drop Toradol to 15 mg. Works great and I can avoid the narcs.

    CRNA vs AA- FL...please HELP!

Not to sound rude, but you came onto a nursing website in the Pre-CRNA inquiry section to ask if you should become a CRNA or an AA. I think most people here are going to go with CRNA. But that is just a guess. Getting into either one is not a gimme....

Defining the Criteria for PACU lengths of Stay

Without casting stones, it sounds like your patients may be over anesthetized. When I roll one of my patients into PACU, that are usually awake or at least arousable after general anesthesia; or able to at least wiggle toes or have some gross motor m...

What is your work schedule like?

I am scheduled for 4 10 hour days that usually start around 06:30. Some days are as early as 05:30 depending on early OR starts. So the schedule is loose at best. We can generally get out on time because we have a scheduled second shift of CRNAs and ...

This was supposed to be in response to above post. don't know how it was added to the bottom of previous. Sorry. Beta2 agonists (Albuterol) also may be beneficial for lowering the potassium level. Activation of B2 receptors stimulates formation of cy...

    The Infamous Cab-ulance

My rule on the ambulance. If I medicated you, no matter what it was(even a simple D50 for low sugar), I transported you. Never got into trouble that way. Only told 1 patient I wasn't going to transport them. They literally called for a bleeding hang...

    Shadowing a CRNA

You don't want to be dishonest about it, but tell her that you want to understand the expand role of the advanced practice nurses that you work with on a daily basis. It will help your role grow as an SICU nurse.

    CRNA student having doubts

When you really start to practice anesthesia on your own (not as a student), I think you will find an increase in satisfaction. When you truly start to understand the art of anesthesia, you won't necessarily be reacting to the monitors, you will star...

    Going to Georgetown, advice?

When did I ever mention or even hint that you were an LPN, or the fact it was even relevant? Other than maybe the fact this a Masters or Doctorate level degree that advice is being requested. I never brought that up. The point i was trying to make, i...

    Going to Georgetown, advice?

I do find it it quite humorous that Ultraposh is a PDN as an LPN and spends all of his/her time trying to give advise in SRNA/CRNA forums since joining in the middle of December and has not posted once on his/her own specialty forum page giving first...

    Work

You will get more respect by asking than by assuming and getting it wrong. Now, if it is the same question to the same people over and over, there may be a problem. Everybody has to learn. Just remember that same information 10 years down the road wh...
