bath time and alzheimer's
My Grandma had Alzheimer's and we cared for at home and it would always help if we gave her a baby doll to hold while we bathed her--even though she could no longer communicate verbal it seemed she was still very "motherly"--i don't know if it just put the attention somewhere else or if she really thought it was a baby and didn't want to upset it. Hope this helps!Good Luck:D

Nursing School stress
When Im stressed--i do things that make me feel like a kid again---i read books like Harry Potter, or watch cartoons, color with my kids, and flip through my daughters "teenybopper" mags---sounds silly but it does help escape reality for alittle while.

What's the deal with black?
Nuns wear black--and honestly who doesn't trust a nun!?! Sorry-just being silly! I do agree with you for the most part--I think a nurse wearing all black would scare me alittle. Maybe just black pants with a different colored or print top wouldn't be too bad!!

Hep C needle sticks
isis im sure you will be okay--i'll keep my fingers crossed:D I do have a question for all that have been"stuck"---I am a nursing student and have never given an injection---I have been a Phlebotomist full-time for the past 6 years and have never been "stuck"--im just wondering if injections are more difficult/dangerous to give then drawing blood-----im getting alittle worried now, I was kinda counting on that to be one of my advantages in school!?!

Would you feel comfortable with putting your loved ones in a nursing home?
i would not. i have worked in too many LTC facilities to know what goes on there. I would hate to think my mom or dad would have to turn a call light on to use the bathroom and wait until someone if anyone would come. I have also worked with alot of people who were only there for the paycheck not because they really cared about the resident---There are alot of LTC staff that really do care also- but are shafted with understaffing and find it hard and impractical totry and answer every call light light as soon as it blinks.

management situation with nursing assistant?
Your staff should feel lucky to have someone like you to work under...you seem to have compassion toward your staff. If the story is legit---i agree with the comment made that maybe she could start her shift 15 minutes early. But if you think that she may be taking advantage of your kindness, then i would go to your supervisor and let her/him make the decision.

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired
You can always try Grandma's remedy----an old wives tale at best(we are country folk too:D)---but she would always say a shot of whiskey makes any germ run---how true it is --i don't know!!

Alternatives to Strangling
To me it seems as if this child is following in his fathers footsteps by.....having no respect for others, expecting others to give him everything he wants, and a total disrespect for women.........I am a mother and I by no means beat my children but they know if they ever acted like this child--its not gonna be pretty. I just hope when you do become a mother that you keep your precious lil' one away from this sick individual. Good Luck!

You cant be fashionable for nursing.
Well lovehospital---i think you need to rethink nursing. I think a job that would suit you better is a supermodel where you can wear your beautiful hair any way you want, and wear your cute clothes every day, and no one you work with will be jealous because they will be just as beautiful and skinny as you. Rules are everywhere----suck it up!!! You are starting to sound like my 13 year old daughter before a school dance complaining how unfair it is that she cant wear her favorite this or that! I am not trying to be rude to you---i just know that there are a million young women out there that would give anything to able to afford and/or find time to go to nursing school. Even wear a pink wig and a houserobe. Honestly---stop being so vain and shallow....be grateful you have been given the oppurtunity to become a nurse.

psychotherapy for elderly dementia patients?
My Grandma had severe dementia and I know when she had psych evals(usually annually) it was for med checks only---her family doctor said he wasn't comfortable giving her a specific Dx or putting her on meds he didn't deal with often. Hope this may help!

called me a maid
While i am a nursing student--i work day shift (very early day) as a certified Phlebotomist(hence the user name above)---you can not even imagine the things i have been called or the things people think that i do-----one of the worst was when i went into a young mans room to draw his blood and i was trying to lessen his fear of needles so i said " Hi, Im the one who's gonna stick you" and he replied "Funny, I was gonna just say the same thing to you"----needless to say i will never make that mistake again!!!!!:smackingf

Should Continuing Education for Nurses be mandatory in all states?
Healthcare changes so fast---no sooner do you learn one way than another way is developed. I personally want to give every patient I care for the most up-to-date nursing care. I would say yes to CEU's:nuke:

With Gratitude
I did have the day off work today--but did do my good deed--me and my oldest daughter wrapped over 200 gifts(donated by family, friends, coworkers, and community)last night, this morning as a family my kids and myself wrote out 200 Christmas cards, and then my two sons and myself went to a local nursing home and handed everything out(along with a couple hugs)---It felt so good and I couldn't be more proud of my children for being unselfish and giving thier time to those often forgotten...the elderly. We did not forget the wonderful staff there---all the nursing staff was given cards and candies to show how much we appreciate their hard work throughout the year. We lost our Beloved Grandma Ruth last year, who is now our shining star in heaven, and we thought appropriate to spend Christmas in a place where we have all the "Grandma's" that we could possible want.:heartbeat Merry Christmas to you all!~!!
