  1. Techniques for smooth wake-up

TIVA if you arent a cheapskate...Isoflurane can give a nice wake up as opposed to desflurane...gives you a little more time to titrate some narcotics...of course, your attending may have a problem with any of this since you are an SRNA. Best advice....
  2. Looking for Barry or UNF grads!!!!

Barry grad myself...thought it was an excellent program. I was in Orlando, easily doubled the casecounts and hours required by AANA by graduation. Don't know much about UNF...the new graduates from the program there will be the example for years to...
  3. Help: Tattoo Ideas!!

oops...now I am guilty of rockstar discrimination! I guess it would be somewhat cool to have Roger Waters singing comfortably numb to you while you went under, assuming he went through the proper training.
  4. Help: Tattoo Ideas!!

fine, it is a persons right to decorate their body with whatever they want, but if I am interviewing 30 identical people for one position with identical resumes, awsome report cards, strong recommendations, and flawless clinical performance, the guy ...

  6. Help: Tattoo Ideas!!

I agree with your comment about military facilities having a strict idea of professionalism, however, you are wrong saying civillians have no idea when it comes to professionalism. Obviously, our society is becoming more accepting of tatooes, and th...
  7. Anesthesia software

avoid the iPhone, go with a windows pocket pc compatible phone...Treo, or something else will give you more options for software and freeware downloads. I had a dell pda in school...but if I could do it all over again, would get a phone with windows...
  8. Aetna and Propofol MAC reimbursement

wow...interesting stuff...what is the upgrade to the sedasys in a few years the "anesys"? I better try to work some more locums before we are all replaced by C3P0 pushing aquavan!
  9. Aetna and Propofol MAC reimbursement

So it is interesting....Aetna has delayed its reimbursement decision regarding anesthesia providers and propofol MAC. The decision has not been withdrawn or reversed due to Aetnas belief that... "new medical devices as well as new sedatives are expe...
  10. lovegas- you should have them get to know you as much as possible...I would not hide the fact that you have children. do be prepared to tell them how you have planned to take care of them and how they will support you. My daughter, wife and I made i...
  11. Did you truly enjoy being a RN?

I miss not losing sleep over some of the decisions I make now as a CRNA. Thats about it. Also, being a CRNA does involve "bedside" issues. You do have to be compassionate when talking to patients and family members before and after anesthesia (some...
  12. CRNA vs FNP

crna...okay has to be five charecters or it won't let me post
  13. Non anesthesia provider providing anesthesia

I love flying / anesthesia comparisons. What happens when you drop an F-15 pilot into the cockpit of a cessna? Food for thought. :)
  14. Sugammadex changing anesthesia practice

since when did we ever place a priority of science over closed claims when determining the standard of care in our country? usually only when science has a louder voice than the trial attorneys. and when that happens, the trial attorneys yell in c...
  15. Sugammadex changing anesthesia practice

interesting post catco...we have a doc here who went to Europe for a TIVA seminar...she has been doing a lot of no paralysis cases (including open abdomens) with Remi / Propofol. She keeps telling me I should try it, but for some reason, I am reluct...
  16. Sugammadex changing anesthesia practice

again, this is totally subjective from my mere 4 years of experience, but nothing beats sux in both rapidity and quality when it comes to intubating relaxation. furthermore what dose of cisatracurium would you call equipotent to 50mg of roc? I proba...
  17. Sugammadex changing anesthesia practice

Nimbex- this is a totally subjective opinion, but I find nimbex and vecuronium terrible to intubate with. I like vecuronium better than roc for maintenance dosing as you can almost set your watch to its elimination. I once read something about roc...
  18. Location vs. Program Ranking

don't worry about the rankings, just pick the best school for you. one thing I will say about FL is there is a lot of action for SRNAs. We (Barry) easily doubled the case requirements by the COA, and all but a couple passed the boards on the first ...

  20. 2015 is it official? YES

Does our delay have something to do with the NLN not recognizing MS in something other than nursing as acceptable entry into DNP? Or is that just a rumor. There are a lot of us who did not get a masters in nursing, but instead studied in a masters ...
  21. Daily grind of critical care nursing vs. CRNA

one of the things I appreciate now as opposed to when I was in the ICUs...is there seems to be less uneccessary busy work. For example- I never have to fill out restraint documentation (chemical or physical), or get a physician order for zofran, or...
  22. femoral block or epidural TKR

I have been using the U/S on femoral nerve blocks...it does not take me any longer to do the block...in fact, it may reduce the time to do the block as I can see where I am putting the needle instead of searching for the twitch or feeling for the fem...

The Canadians... Can J Anaesth. 2002 Dec;49(10):1057-60 "Based on the limited information available it is possible that inserting an epidural or spinal needle through a tattoo could cause long-term problems such as arachnoiditis or a neuropathy secon...
  24. Rural vs Metro

one thing to consider when looking at a metro group is the size of the group. I currently work in a rural situation with 6 providers...the call is frequent, so you are frequently obligated to the hospital whether you are at home or not. My range is ...
  25. I practice in one of the rural settings as mentioned...our surgeons here understand that everyone in the room is responsible for the patients outcome in and outside of the OR. I have found that if you choose to postpone, or cancel cases judiciously,...
