  3. Good Old HIPAA Violation!

Odds are, the consequenses meted out were to send a message to all. Too bad it was your name attached to it. And yes, I think an inservice prior to the event was in order. There is an atmosphere of paranoia surrounding the entire HIPPA thing. We ...
  4. Dangerous nurses

I have also met these unfortunate souls. Am very grateful that there have not been many. I have reported 2 in my career. Their behavior was outrageous. Thankfully, something was done to adress the issue both times.
  5. I cannot do this job anymore!

I would reccomend investing in yourself. Try a few theraputic massages. They aid in balancing the psyche. They also assist in renewing your physical energy. Until you make the decision to leave nursing you will need all the strength you can muster...

  7. How About... a HUMAN CULTURE

Am looking forward to traveling with my Grandchildren in the next few years. Think we'll try Miami Florida first. I truly enjoyed my visit to Little Havana while there last. Think the kids will also. I suppose Disney Land is on the horizon.

Today I had my nails done at a salon operated by a Chinese family. Then went to lunch at a resturaunt operated by a family from Mexico. Picked up a six pac of Red Stripe beer from Jamaica on my way home. All this while driving my Toyota Corolla (a...
  9. Bad Managers

Oh yes, the administration. They truly are the last ones to know whats going. Most generally completely clueless.

Vacation in Puerto Vallarta Mexico every year. I particuarlly enjoy the culture there. Have met many Canadians there as well as others from all over the world. Have always appreciated diversity and learning about how others live. Have always been ...
  11. Bad Managers

My experience with managers is that they are the last to know what is really going on. Many don't want to be told anything that they don't want to hear. They're just riding that wave called delusion. The system is set up for this.
  12. St Louis area is still hiring. Of course the transition to the "bible belt" might be a shock as well as the weather. Humid in the summer and you never know what in the winter. For a future resume Barnes Hospital always looks excellent. It is also ...
  13. Should spelling count?

I love books therefor I own a dictionary. My Mother gave me one that weighs 10 lbs. I have a broad vocabulary from using the thing most of my life. Rarely use spellcheck but consider it a valuable tool. Jess, your posted quote by Mother Theresa is...
  14. Apologizing when paging physicians

That is just plain wild. I too am sorry I missed that one.
  15. Apologizing when paging physicians

I have observed this phenomina Think it's just part of the culture. I can't imagine why I would apologize for or ask another to accept an apology for simply doing our job. We could probably do away with the practice entirely if nurses had more cla...
  16. Suicide On The Ward

The unfortunate circumstance you find yourself in is truly saddening. Have been a psych nurse a number of years. You are not alone in your suffering. While I don't consider it a common occurance I have seen this happen. I know of nurses that have d...
  17. Atheists? How do you deal with religious people?

I am not a Christian, Wiccan, Athiest, or Pagan but.....I have friends from all the mentioned categories. They are bright, articulate, caring folks. The only one that annoys me is the Christian ( have been friends since childhood and she converted ...

  21. 1st agency shift, horrible

I agree. There are some places that no one wants to go. Management is most definitely a full fleddged, active member of what I term the "Mushroom Club). No sense talking to them. Don't throw in the towel because the first experience is a bust. ...
  22. 1st agency shift, horrible

Have been an agency nurse for a number of years. Have refused to return to a few facilities due to craziness. Others have been great. Most generally, if I recieve flak I confront it directly having the expectation that I will recieve assistance wi...

  24. How can I show my NM that I really appreciate her?

Definitely a note to her boss. Maybe a small plaque from Hallmark to sit on her desk. I'm so glad your first experience with a nurse manager was so positive. Mine was too. Have had a number since that were not so. My current boss is wonderful.
  25. "Nursing students with C's are still nurses".. ?

Is'nt C considered average? Is there anything wrong with being average? David Letterman gives a scholarship to C students specifically.
