Unemployed New Grad
I went to some rehab centers there, and they are not hiring any full-time either. They said job markets really crashes for new grads starts in about March, april this year... Are the nursing homes in the area hiring? if not, moving to far south is the only way.

Failed NCLEX-RN 1st Attempt
OP, I'm sorry you didn't pass on 1st attempt. But I'm not sure why you want to play down people whose English is their second-language? It's nothing to do with English-as-2nd-language, it's just you, as an individual, didn't pass, for various reasons. There are Americans who didn't pass on 1st attempt either. Overall, I feel uncomfortable on your stressing your English as a 2nd language. It's not like we are doomed to be inferior just because English is not our native language. Me, also English-as-a-2nd language, even though I worked full-time & studied full-time all the way through the nursing program, and I did not have any prior background in healthcare, I still graduated with honor, a top grade in class, with majority of American students who didn't work at all. I also passed NCLEX on 1st try with 75 questions. Wish you good luck, but don't blame English as a 2nd language. That's not the reason.

Relocate to where the jobs are?
Maybe a real silly question, just wondering, when people say they relocate to an area where jobs are plentiful, do they really physically move to that area, then look for jobs there, or do they look for jobs first, then move to there physically after they get the jobs?

If i don't find a job im going to go insane!!!!!!!!
Just a question, does volunteer experience count? I'm currently volunteer at ER, not sure if it will really help on job hunting, cause as a volunteer, I'm only allowed to do basic care, like an Aide stuff, not really in a nurse role. Will try my best. Will can I find a place to volunteer as a nurse?

How's the job market for new graduate in Washington Area?
Just to want to find out the situations of New graduate in Washington state. I live in NY/NJ/PA tri-state area. Just graduated with an associate degree in Nursing in May. The job market here is terrible!. In my class of 20 students, only 3 or 4 have jobs by now. As I'm single, does not own any property, I'm free to move to anywhere in US where I can find a job in the hospital, preferably in Med-Surg Floor. Can anybody shed some lights on the job market in Washington State? Appreciate it.

Obama may revoke TN nurses visas
I don't understand if nurses who are US citizens or green card holders have difficulty finding jobs, why do we need to import nurses from Phipino? It does not make sense for the USCIS to approve all these I140 at all. In fact, I think Schedule A occupations should be eliminated, given the tough economy and job market in US. What US should concentrate on is educating their own people instead of importing foreign nurses.

Job opportunity for New Graduates?
I'm graduating this May with an associate in Nursing from US. The job market for new graduates in US is very bad. I want to start working in ICU, ER, or Med-surg unit, but almost impossible at this time, too much competition. I have a friend who is graduating at the same time from a Canadian BSN school, she already has a couple of ICU, ER job offers. So I'm wondering how is the job market in canada now? Is there a chance for people like me to get a RN job in Canada? As to immigrations, I'm a green card holder in the States, not a US or Canadian citizen. Will this create a problem?

Anybody please recommend a region of the country in great shortage of nurses?
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I mentioned Arizona because recently I had a personal trip there, mentioned it as an example. Now I know situations there are not good for new graduates. Thanks for the info. Situations in the area I live in is not good. My friend who is an RN in a City hospital of New York City said the hospital has a hiring freeze, and RN schedule change back from 12-hr shift to 8-hr shift. I know I'm not competitive on the new graduate market. Maybe I can get a job in a Nursing home in the area, but I heard once your first RN job is in Nursing home, it will be very difficult to move to a hospital, and you will be kind of "stuck" there. While there is nothing wrong working at a nursing home, I would like myself to have more options. Again, thanks for all suggestions. I'll look in the areas mentioned in the posts above. I'm OK with bad weather. Worst case scenario, I can get a couple of years of experience, and come back to NYC metro area later on.

Anybody please recommend a region of the country in great shortage of nurses?
I'm in a 2-year diploma RN program in New Jersey graduating this May/June. I have a BS degree in business. Unfortunately I do not have any prior Health care work experiences. I have to work full-time (in a business setting) over the whole program and did not do any summer externship. Most of my classmates either already work at the health care field, or do the externship at ICU, emergency room, med-surg etc in the summer. Since some big hospitals in NJ closed due to bad economy over the past years, the market for new graduate in the area is bad, I know it is especially bad for people like me who is not a BSN and have no prior health care work experiences. I would really appreciate any recommendation of the region of the country that is in real shortage of nurses. I'm single, and willing to relocate to any part of the country. I would like to start working at emergency room, ICU, or med-surg. I'm also wondering, is it possible for me to apply for a new graduate position far away? say in Arizona. Cause interview is almost impossible (expensive and time-costly). Would hospital just hire new graduate over the phone interview? Or do I need to wait till graduate, move to the area and look for jobs from there? Thanks for any suggestions...

Urge Congress to Support HR 5924: Legislation to Address Nursing Shortage
Sorry to point it out, but the exact country you are in, Canada, gives priority (extra points), to the foreign students for immigration purposes. If one study in Canada for two years, he/she get five more points, etc. Quebec has similar immigration policies. Sorry to say, but the immigration system in US do give international students a lot of advantages (kind of priority) though. Educated in US, have a-year OPT which helps them gain US experience. An obvious example is when immigration visa becomes available, like last JULY visa bulletin chaos, they can file AOS immediately, which gives them advantage of renewable EAD.

Urge Congress to Support HR 5924: Legislation to Address Nursing Shortage
[(1) set aside 20,000 employment-based visas in each of the next three years for foreign-educated registered nurses and physical therapists;] How about US-educated registered nurses but who are international students and need visa too? Why are they excluded from the bill? This does not make sense at all. I think they should be given priority.

Philippine Board of Nursing to stop Second Coursers from taking up Nursing
Why the PI government need to stop 2nd course program? All they need to do is to wait. Everything will fall into its place naturally. With tens thousands nursing graduates hang there without an RN job nor can they get a Green Card to go to US, fewer and fewer people will go to 2nd course. And eventually, these programs have to shut down by themselves for lack of demand. When the job market goes bad, it would be after a while before it shows in the education area. Which means, there is a lag period in the education market and job market. Seems that international demand for PI nurses dramatically slows down in recent years, along with the western countries getting wise by educating and providing jobs to their own citizens. Eventually there will be a corresponding decrease in the nursing graduates in PI.
