  1. Nurses with depression

I know there have been other threads about nurses with depression/mental illness, but I have not seen one that has addressed this. Have any other nurses here gone out on disability due to their depression? If so, does this affect your license? Doe...

  4. Have You Had Your Gall Bladder Out?

Had a lap choly 2/9/06. Took 2 1/2 weeks off from work. It was mostly the belly button pain/bruising that bothered me. As far as certain foods triggering any untoward effects, it is still new to me. I ate mostly low-fat food the first month. The...

  6. sympathy cards from the office

I have sent cards to family members, especially if they have been pts for some time. I feel it might make the surviving family members feel comforted that I am thinking of them and their loved one. I have also sent get well cards to patients who ar...

Sound like you need to go to the E/R for eval. Now! Good luck.
  8. The role of MAs where you work

In my Family Practice office, we have 2 MA's. They do not triage. They room pt's and help with treatments (nebs, drsg changes). They both give injections (immunizations) - one will give Depo Provera and give kids injections, the other will only gi...
  9. your first massage...what was it like?

I can't imagine life without massages! I love to go. I find myself almost falling asleep on the table, especially after a long day of work. I pay $55/hr - which to me is very reasonable for relaxation! I love to just close my eyes. Listen to the ...

  11. Working in a doctor's office?

I started out in a Nursing Home, then changed to a Family Practice office. I don't feel like I have missed out on anything, by not working in a hospital. In the acute care setting, I get to see healthy people along with ill people. I have a broad ...

  13. LNA programs

Watch for ads in the Union Leader. A lot of Nursing Homes offer LNA courses and then employment with them afterwards. Hope that helps!
  14. transgender nurse (transvestite)

Just my thoughts: would a female not be accepted in to the nursing program because she may have excessive facial hair, or a male not accepted because he looked too feminine?? As long as this person is competent, there should be no issue. I would ra...

  18. Adults Who Can't Swallow Pills

If the post is just about a plain refusal to take any meds, any route, then I can agree that they are being difficult. But, if it's about being an adult and not being able to swallow pills, any size, then I hope I never run into any of you, with such...
  19. Honestly: Do you wear gloves every time?

I always wear gloves......drawing blood, starting IV's, even giving injections. It is our hospital's policy to wear gloves when giving injections, you could be fired if you were caught without them.

  24. Inflamed uvula?

Could just be viral, I'd get a strep screen to be sure though. The ones I have seen in family practice and I-med, usually are viral. Do you sleep with central a/c or a fan directly on you? Could you have gotten really dry in the back of your throat?
  25. Have You Thanked A Nurse Today?

Thank you, you made my day brighter. As hectic as things can become in the office, I always try to think of how my patient is feeling and what I can do to help calm their fears. Sometimes I find it's just an understanding hug. :)
