  1. Nursing Documentation Forms

Does anyone have a form/workbook template they used to monitor medical case managment in long term residential care that can be converted into a report? I would appreciate any feedback. A lot of the links for Quality Improvement are disabled.
  2. Orienting a new hire - issues

I think the entire problem is FEAR. I too educate nurses and support staff; it's amazing how once you establish the expectations w/out the FEAR factor, things change. :)
  3. Finally a Nurse Manager That Does NOT Tolerate Nurses Eating Their Young

My CEO has a no abuse policy!!!! Amen to that.... It's not a perfect environment, managers are 'young' and could use a course in engagement of staff; however, no abuse is nice.
  4. Finally a Nurse Manager That Does NOT Tolerate Nurses Eating Their Young

I would be right there with her; there is NO reason to teach/develop nurses and be a bullie. They would be meeting the highway if I were their manager !! Let's start a revolution!
  5. New grad nurse - purposely work part time?

Or, you could take 3 twelve hour shifts! :):yelclap:
  6. The beat goes on and only we can stop it!
  7. Refused to float without orientation ...Terminated

I agree! He falls into the "I deserve to be (fill in the blank). I'm glad you have a happy ending. No nurse should be abused for asking for orientation. God Speed.
  8. Amen, People need time to adjust to nursing. A lot of good, well- intended new grads start out this way... Dont let me catch you treating them with distain.. or I'll remind YOU where you came from.!
  9. My Dear, This sounds like my first job in a cardiac unit. It must be an attitude that is allowed to permiate throughout nursing, a 'right of passage' so to speak. All I can say is 'bullying interferes with learning and 'they' all should be fired. I w...
  10. How to bring in a nurses union in a non union state?

Hi Sunshine, You might want to contact unions in various states to see how they handled this. U.H.S. is a big company with a lot of 'connections'. Good luck
  11. Shared Goverance

Currently our hospital is in the process 'OF' forming a union which was caused by multiple issues that effected committed and serious nurses. We saw multiple lay offs, corporate aquisitions, cut backs, bare bone staffing and obvious fear over job se...
  12. Breaking through the cliques

There are always nurse nasties, nurse know iy alls, and the like. Put your energy into the patients and go home. I left an office clique once, returned to my "friendly" hard working floor and clinic work and could not be happier. It Is About Them Not...
  13. Support Stickie for New nurses who are not coping

All of this sounds very familiar. There is no shortage; just a shortage of patience, support and education. Remember, medicine is business these days.. and it's a rare institution that practices otherwise.....sad, frustration, discusting. Follow th...
  14. Don't Be Angry - Part II

Contacting your state representative works except when they've been on the board of a certain hospital you were employed at ! :)
  15. How to face tomorrow

Please take the time to process your feelings. So sorry for your loss. It's very hard to care for others when you have an emotionally difficult event occur in your life.
  16. Support Stickie for New nurses who are not coping

Two thumbs up to this manager. If you only knew how few would do this. They just lose people, don't know why, don't care why. Go out and get another nurse. They don't seem to realize that being tuned into the mental state of their staff is part of th...
  17. Fine line of abuse

Speak up.. Become a target. Dont work there.
  18. Do new graduates RN's get ,easier patients?

Lol.. not in my world. New Grads are treated like everyone else after their ten week orientation. I do not agree with this practice unless it is in a HIGHLY supportive environment.
  19. May 2008 grads....how are things going?

Wow! If they are willing to orient you without med/surg experience, why not try it? I think that is wonderful for you! You can work around your child and that seems to be the priority which is GREAT! Congrats!
  20. nursing grad who cant seem to pass boards

I third the motion for Kaplan. You will be forced to find out 'why'. You can also supplement your 'why' questions with the rationales from Saunders. Everything happens in the 'right' time when it's supposed to happen. Look at it this way: this co...
  21. Where do you think the nursing problem / shortage begins??

A reality check for directors would be a good start; lowering the financial bottom line would be next. Looking at how litigeous the units are and staffing accordingly. Adopting a real 'zero tolerance' policy for lateral harrassment, having a REAL o...
  22. Seasoned nurses and poor culture....want advice

    kuddos!
  23. when co-workers throw each other under the bus

Well, Sam.. All I can say is the tire marks take a while to go away; however, I also know the one can always be paying attention to the 'bus' and who the 'drivers' are ahead of time. I would advise anyone looking to work anywhere to go back later as...
  24. So Happy!!!

Congratulations. It is great when we see our sisters and brothers in nursing excel!
  25. need advice

If someone is playing games, that is just SICK..SAD and UNBELIEVABLE. They say we have a nursing shortage; i'm not sure that is the issue.
