  1. Hi, Has anyone taken an RN refresher course? I'm an RN returning to the field after several years at home with my kids. I understand the need for a refresher course, but I'm curious how well they prepare you for returning to work? Are they helpful? W...

  3. Help! L&D nurse to med-surg?

Hi, I'm an RN with about 8 years of labor and delivery experience. L&D was my first job out of nursing school. I've been out of nursing for about 10 years to be at home with my kids. I'm wanting to return to nursing, and am considering med-surg. ...
  4. I will second that for HealthEast- my experience has been that they are very welcoming, friendly, and professional to nurses seeking employment. They have an RN placement coordinator who is so helpful (her number is available on their website).
  5. Hospital Issued Scrubs vs. Personal Scrubs

Where I work we are also required to wear hospital scrubs- I'm so glad because I certainly do not want to put my family at risk by bringing something home. Yuck! Also, I believe patients are more at risk from scrubs laundered outside the hospital. I ...
  6. I'm wondering if most L&D nurses rupture membranes or insert IUPC's? Does anyone know if there are AWHONN guidelines on these procedures? Thanks!
  7. new grads entering L&D

  8. HCMC interview

  10. should i feel guilty?

No way- don't feel guilty. People made comments to me when I left nursing for awhile, and I even had two babies at home. When my kids got a little older, people would ask me what I did with all my time . Now that I'm returning to nursing, some judge ...
  11. Breastfeeding and working...was I out of line?

I don't think you were out of line at all....GOOD GRIEF your need to pump is perfectly reasonable. Where's the flexibility and willingness to help each other out in your co-workers? I hope night shift works better for you :heartbeat
  12. Which state would be ideal for me??

I'll put my plug in for Minnesota :chuckle ! It really IS a great place to live, despite the cold and snow. The seasons are beautiful, lOTS of lakes, museums, theaters, the arts, good schools, decent cost of living, great hospitals and medical care.....
  13. What was your job before you became a nurse?

I worked at a lumber yard. :chuckle
  14. Fairview Employees and anyone else who wants to respond :)

    Me too.
  15. Yelled At During A C-Section (Among Other Things)

I also think that it is NOT ok to yell at or belittle someone, new nurse or not. I've been in emergency situations where communication is done effectively and effeciently without anyone being cruel. In fact, emergency situations go much more smoothly...
  16. Hi, I worked L&D for about 8 years, and have been at home for 10 years with my kids. I would like to return to L&D and I'm wondering what has changed in the past 10 years? Thanks!
  17. in rn refresher course now

I'm also returning to the nursing field (after being out 10 yrs.). I'm scared and lack some confidence right now too. I think the previous poster has a good point, if we made it through nursing school and then worked as a nurse before, we can do it a...

Have you tried talking directly with nurse recruiters or nurse managers? I'm a returning RN, BSN after years at home with my kids. I too have been applying for months and hadn't heard anything. I started calling and talking with recruiters and manage...
  20. What's changed in the last 10 yrs in L&D?

Are they not doing many VBAC's now? Wow, there were so many when I was working (in the '90's). Also, I'm embarrassed to say I'm not really familiar with "evidence-based practice", I suppose it is what it says it is- interventions that have been prove...
  21. financial planning for the young!

Any of Dave Ramsey's materials are fantastic- www.daveramsey.com You are VERY SMART to do financial planning at your young age!
  22. Are RN refresher courses helpful?

I've heard of online refresher courses, but I think you need to arrange the clinical component yourself. I'm not sure how you'd do that- maybe call hospitals and ask about it? It seems there is a need for better and more accessible RN refresher cours...

I live in MN- Twin Cities. You could check the CA Board of Nursing website and maybe they would list some refresher courses in your area. Or you could try community colleges nearby. Good Luck!
