  1. American nurses in Germany??

Go to the website http://www.cpol.army.mil. They will have vacancy announcements you can look over. You can apply at the same site. Good luck! Enjoy Germany--it's AWESOME!
  2. how hard is it

I'm a full time mom and full time nurse at a military treatment facility (troop clinic). Even with the great hours and benefits I still miss my kids. I do get every weekend and holiday off--so I am there when they don't have school. It's a jugglin...
  3. Is this REASONABLE??

I also had 3 c/s--first emergency (cathed before spinal) and the second two were elective. It was my choice, so of course I elected to have the spinal first. DUH! Who wouldn't?? It should be the patient's choice, if the Doc still refuses talk to ...
  4. VA/Govt Nurse Satisfaction

I'm sorry that you're not having the best experience with govt nursing. Were you prior service? Are you 5 years from retirement? Have you thought about moving to a different location? Try http://www.cpol.army.mil. Lots of job postings. Remind ...

  6. Sexual misconduct between nurse & patient.

At a LTC facility I worked at about 4 years ago, we had a janitor who was molesting the corpses in the "body freezer". They found out when a nurse and an aid were putting another body into the freezer and caught him "in the act". SO DISGUSTING!
  7. Do you live in the City or Upstate?

Living in Northern New York--aka "The North Country". 20 minutes from Kingston, Ontario and the Thousand Islands. Beautiful place--extremely cold and snowy.
  8. IV starts

Not many nursing schools teach how to initiate IV therapy. It would be a helpful skill, but all of the hospitals and clinics where I have worked have classes and will be happy to teach you. It shouldn't be something that would prevent you from gett...
  9. Anyone from Syracuse NY?

I live in Watertown just 1.5 hours north of Syracuse. They have 4 major hospitals in one area--Crouse Irving, St. Joseph's, University Hospital and the VA. I've heard that the best to work at would have to be Crouse or University. Welcome to the a...
  10. Do any of you belong to a union?

All of my nursing jobs have been unionized except for one.
  11. When I met my husband he was an EMT-B, and he was wonderful. The more EMS knowledge he got the more resentful he became of nurses (especially ER nurses). Still love him though. We agree to disagree
  12. I'm married to a paramedic--makes for interesting dinner conversation. I just wish there wasn't so much EMS vs. Nursing arguments.
  13. VA/Govt Nurse Satisfaction

I absolutely love working for the US Army as a civilian nurse. I work in a TMC (troop medical clinic) where I take care of our soldiers both active duty and reservists/guard on their drills. I see the soldiers before they leave and when they return...
  14. Any Military Nurses Out There?

The Army Reserves will take ADN or Diploma nurses--I happen to be working with a few of them in our clinic that just got activated for the homeland mission.
  15. Heck of a Question

I am a DOD civilian nurse at an Army Post in Northern New York. The money is ok, benefits are great. They are not the same that the active duty military receive though. We also work under the FERS for retirement. Love working for the government. ...
  16. What jewel are you?

I'm a sapphire, can't have much elegance on an Army post though
  17. Tell your memorable "1st" story

Last summer a soldier came into my 4 bed "acute area" for burns he had sustained while doing rope training (climbing up a rope, repelling down). Both of his hands and all of his fingers but one had pretty severe friction burns. I was carefully clea...
  18. Smoking

I also began smoking just to get a "break". That was 6 years ago. It was the only way to get my "fifteen minutes"--I'm slowly trying to wean myself off of them. It's not an easy thing to do. Now I associate time away from the floor with cigarette...
  19. NCLEX "easy" question??

I took my boards in 96, same thing-computer shut off after 75 questions. I told myself that I either did very well or I was so incompetent that they couldn't believe I was sitting for the exam. It all turned out well. Hopefully your luck was as go...
  20. The Circumcision Discussion

I work with soldiers at a troop clinic. The majority of soldiers are circumcised. Some of them have chosen to have the circumcision as adults because of sanitation issues when they are out in the field (no showers, no way to "clean" the area). We ...
