  1. Need some opinions on my dilemma

Like someone else said, the LTAC probably would be great experience. But like you said, it's going to be easier getting into the ICU if you already work at that facility. Go for the cardiac floor job!
  2. Need some opinions on my dilemma

Some turnover is expected and is a cost of doing business. If facilities don't want to hire new grads because they leave, maybe they need to look at why they are leaving and try to improve upon that.
  3. Need your opinion!

"would you send out applications like crazy and if something comes your way take it and forget the severence and stay pay." That seems like the easy answer to me. You didn't say what the bonus was, but two weeks of severence isn't worth staying arou...
  4. Nurses share stories about impact of economy

Thanks for that info. I'm not convinced that go as far as to make sure we all have well-paying jobs, homes, insurance, etc, but at least I see there is some sort of rationale behind the plan. I didn't say you wanted my money. I was speaking about t...
  5. Nurses share stories about impact of economy

You obviously work in some capacity for National Nurses United. You'll need to come up with a better camapign to get your hands on my money, which is your ultimate objective. Most nurses aren't going to believe that "taxing Wall Street" (I don't ev...
  6. Nurses share stories about impact of economy

"extending/taking out loans without the means to pay them off" I agree with you there. That's where things went downhill in a hurry. Our lawmakers made rules and regulations that made it easy for people who couldn't afford a house to buy a house,...
  7. Nurses share stories about impact of economy

"It’s a movement where everyone in our country will have jobs at a living wage, access to quality education, guaranteed healthcare for all, good housing, protection from hunger, a healthy environment, and a just taxation system." Sounds great! But w...
  8. Is it just nurses or........

It's not that I'm not calm. I'm just confused. I was really interested when you said "definately cut out all the ABSN programs", but yet you think all RN's should have a bachelors degree. Seems kinda contradictory. I figured their was some logic ...
  9. Is it just nurses or........

First let me say I am a pretty new RN, with a BSN. I work with many experienced ADN nurses and even a few diploma nurses. They are 10 times the nurse I am right now and I count on them and learn from them everyday. And I know some new grad ADN nurs...
  10. Is it just nurses or........

I think that you forgot that your point was that RN's should have to have a BSN as a requirement to be an RN, similar to that of the other professions and the (incorrect) educational requirements that you mentioned. Anyway, nevermind. I didn't say I...
  11. Is it just nurses or........

You believe all RN's should have a BSN, so why get rid of ABSN programs? It's not a "fast-track" as much as it is a second bachelors. I had a bachelors already, and then wanted one in nursing. That is what a ABSN is for. Before my nursing program...
  12. Is it just nurses or........

I may have misspoken about PA programs. It sounds like most of them do require a bachelors now. But, not a masters like you claim. And, no, paralegals don't require a bachelors or even an associates. There are programs that offer those degrees in par...
  13. only a few months to decide...

My reply has nothing to do with ADN vs. BSN. For a new HS grad, if you have any inkling to go away to school, you should do it! Someday you will likely wonder what you missed out on, especially if boyfriend someday exits the picture or nursing ends...
  14. Is it just nurses or........

//"They should also do away with the popular, second degree nursing programs. There are no "second degree" medical schools for physicians assistants, dental asistants, for dental school, or paralegals for law school. These programs are adding to the...
  15. Possibly moving to AURORA, CO!! Please respond :)

As you can tell, Aurora has a bad rep. But the truth is much of it very nice. It has a population of over 300,000 and is as big as Denver, so of course there are bound to be some places that aren't all that great. And yes, like another poster ment...
  16. Question about flushing lines

Has anyone actually heard of this being a problem, or know of any research regarding this issue?
  17. What should I have done differently?

Is it me, or is everyone making this more difficult then it needs to be. If your only two weeks in, go talk to the mgr before they invest more in you. If you already want to bolt, they would rather you go now then have to deal with the issue later a...
  18. range order rationale

It's 1 TO 2, not 1 OR 2. Rather then titrating the dose to give the desired effect, wouldn't this encourage the RN to more often then not give the max dose, knowing they won't be able to give more for another 4 hours?
  19. range order rationale

RN: Hello Dr. I know it's 230am, but I'm calling about patient M who is c/o 8 of 10 pain. You did order 1-2 Norco prn Q4H. I gave 1 about an hour ago, and it isn't enough. Could I have a STAT order for another one. MD: Didn't you just say you ga...

  21. A $10,000 difference? It sounds great to me, but realisticly what is that based on? Is a MSN with the same amount of experience working on the same unit as a BSN or ADN really that much different? Are they that much more valuable to the employer? ...
  22. Suppose ALL nurses had BSN's. Wages still wouldn't go up because there would still be the same number of RN's. The reason PT's/OT makes more (if that is true) is because there are fewer of them in relation to the number needed. Now, that may be du...
  23. Because on a floor where all the nurses are doing the same job, there isn't a difference between a MSN and ADN nurse. Experience is what matters, and the more experienced ones make more money because they are more valuable to the hospital. The ince...
  24. Would you advise anyone to get into nursing?

As someone who started nursing mid-life and has other careers to compare it to, I believe nursing is a great choice. There are so many possibilities and opportunities. Much more so then most career fields. I would also tell some one thinking about...
