  1. Why so competitive?

I find our class is very supportive of each other. At the same time we are competitive and always trying to top quiz, assignment, and test grades. We study together and do group quiz and cram sessions before the exams. In clinical we are there for on...
  2. I have good credit as opposed to great or excellent credit. I also work while going to school and have income to show. I was denied a private loan from salliemae and various other institutions. The credit situation isn't great right now and the priva...
  3. Blood draw from IVs?

In my experience working in a lab as a phlebotomist it was very rare for us to have to go stick the patient again due to hemolyzed specimens. When they were hemolyzed I found it was usually a smaller bore IV, 20g or less,, and the nurse or EMT who st...

  9. Questioning Our Compassion

What is going on here. Now I need to photocopy my license in triplicate to post and view here. I am a nurse!!! I didn't say I was an RN. I am a nursing student as well. I am an EMT-Intermediate on top of it all. What next?? Must I bow down to the alm...
  10. Questioning Our Compassion

I guess this thread got started in response to a response I made under a different topic. I retract the compassion statement if that makes you feel any better sometimes it is easier to write stuff out and hit send without my internal editor filtering...
  11. Drug rant: Legalized Dope Dealer, RN

    My point exactly.
  12. Drug rant: Legalized Dope Dealer, RN

I'm reading through all these responses and really hope I never end up in some of your ERs. Some of you have really lost your compassion and objectivity. Maybe it is time to look into a different profession if this sort of thing bothers you to this e...
  13. Drug rant: Legalized Dope Dealer, RN

It's an addiction. They won't stop until they decide they want to help themselves. Do what you can to send them in the right direction, but many people have to hit rock bottom before they decide to enter into a program of some kind. Addiction is a di...
  14. New Grad Pay Denver "atleast" $28?

You can look to make "at least" $23/hr. as a new grad. I'm sure you can find somewhere that pays a bit more and maybe a bit less. But from my research new grads can make at least $23/hr in the front range.
  15. R.N. pay scale for Colorado

New grads make $23/hr at Memorial in Colorado Springs. It is posted on their website and they are hiring new grads as of now. ER nurses make $23 - 36 depending on experience. This is all straight from their website. https://www.healthcaresource.com/...
  16. Hey all, I just got done with two days of 13 hour shifts on a Med/Surg floor as a second year student. We got to practice at the RN level as opposed to LPN level during first year clinicals. I had a blast!! It was so great to be doing full patient ca...
  17. I recommend Salida, CO. Awesome little town with a brand new hospital and recreation coming out of the Wazoo. Hiking, Biking, Mtn. Biking, Whitewater, Skiing, XC, the list goes on. It is a small town with access to the big city if you need to go ther...
  18. Community College Waitlist

Look into TSJC alamosa campus. The waiting list is usually 6 months to 1 year if you have all your coreqs completed.
  19. Getting a healthcare job while in school

I worked as a phlebotomist/lab aide in a small hospital and found the experience to be really helpful with nursing school. I learned a ton about lab tests and what to draw for specific tests, as well as how to properly handle and store specimens. I a...
  20. LPN Starting Salary

I got the job at an Urgent Care Clinic in a rural town in Southern CO. I since have got some other wages in various other places, such as, LTC and the other local hospitals(the one in my town doesn't hire LPNs). The LTC offers $14/hr and the hospital...
  21. How many did you lose?

We started with 40 students and by the end of the first year we were left with 19. Would have been 20 but we lost one student during finals. This year we are starting with a couple less of the original students and a couple "Replacement" LPNs.

  23. Shoes for clinicals?

No tennis shoes?? What if they are completely white?? Our requirements are similar with the exception of the tennis shoes. I went through last year with a pair of Dr. Scholls walking shoes thinking they would be good with that name but they sucked an...

I just got my LPN license and applied for a job. I have a few years experience working as an EMT on an ambulance, in the ER as a tech, and also experience as a Phlebotomist in a lab. They offered me 13.26/HR working in an urgent care clinic with $2.0...
  25. Took the test on Thursday and found out I passed this morning, 48 hours to the minute using the pearsonvue website. I was really hoping for the minimum questions and was so happy when it turned off at 85 questions. All in all I think I over-studied f...
