    One reason to use it is if the patient is having SVT. Try the valsalva maneuver before resorting to Adenosine. The purpose is to stimulate the vagus nerve to slow the heart rate.

    I use the otoscope quite regularly for patients with ear impactions who need ear washes. After I get a big chunck out I check to see if I need to continue. On the other hand I rarely use the opthalmoscope.
