I am interviewing at Hershey Med next week for their GN program. I'm from New Jersey, have lived in NJ, NYC, and southern CT. I've been to Hershey a couple times, but don't know anything about what it's like to live out there. Can anyone give me some...
Okay, I have heard a hundred times that nursing is so great because there are so many different areas you can go into and you can try different specialties until you find the one that's right for you, etc. Well, I have a question: HOW THE HECK DO YOU...

I agree with the above poster. I work in pediatric hem/onc and I love it, but I'm new to the specialty (did general peds before) and probably just not burnt out yet! :\

I was in the same boat as all of you when I graduated in 2008. I went to job fairs in NY and NJ and no one wanted to hire new grads. I agree it was very discouraging and frustrating. I had to move away from everything/everyone I know and have been wo...

What are the daily duties of your job? head-to-toe assessments, vital signs, medication administration, maintaining IVs, collecting stool/urine samples, urinary catheterization (indwelling Foleys as well as straight caths), wound care, skin care, neu...

I'm a pediatric floor nurse and we have to chart q2h. If pt has IV running continuously we have to chart q1 (just initial box that says we checked their IV)... but an actual note at least q2 for all pts.

Same here. 99% of my shifts are 12s but even the shorter ones (like when I'm picking up hours for someone or doing a switch or something) are completely draining. I get home and feel like I have put everything I have into my work and all I can do is ...

How do you like working at Children's? I'm not too far away in Baltimore! Edit: Woops, sorry, just noticed you didn't start yet. Best of luck to you! And to the OP, first of all congratulations on getting your dream job! I work on a pediatric flo...

Congratulations all of you! I'm a little jealous; I'd love to be a school nurse! I graduated last summer and have only 2 months PICU experience so far (left PICU b/c wasn't the right environment for me). All the school nurse jobs I've seen posted in ...

Don't give up yet! You can do it if you want to do it. If you feel you'd be happier and safer staying on the med/surg floor a little longer instead of going to step-down, talk to your preceptor or manager about your options for that. BEST OF LUCK!

My day today was great. I interviewed on another unit at the hospital because I was not happy in the unit I started on. I have two more interviews this week, so I'm pretty happy. :-)

THIS is your problem. You *must* ask questions; it is the only way to learn. And YOU are the nurse now. You are not in the way! You will eventually be on your own and you need to be able to safely and effectively care for your patients. The only way ...

Today I was asked: 1) What would your preceptor/instructor say are your greatest strengths and weaknesses? 2) What 5 adjectives would you use to describe yourself? 3) Describe a time you felt you used good nursing judgment. 4) What do you do when you...

Dear bluelou, I feel your pain, I truly do. I'm also a second-degree BSN who started right out in a highly acclaimed teaching hospital's ICU (pediatric). I sucked it up for 2 months until I finally decided that my mental health was more important to ...
