  1. Do You Have Male Nurses on your Unit?

My comments removed...I did not realize this was for L&D or OB GYN only. sorry .
  2. Time outs for C sections

Is it done while the patient is still awake so that they can agree also? Just wondering. Oh, sorry, I didn't see the post above me before I posted my question.
  3. Drug Testing At Hospitals

Some nurses on this thread feel it's an invasion of their privacy, but patients have a right to be cared for by drug free nurses and other nurses have a right to work with nurses who are drug free. Personally, I don't want to work with you if you ar...
  4. Chaperone or not during exam

Me being female there is no way I would consent to a gyn exam done by a male doctor AND a male nurse. I want a female nurse there for my support. I would be totally too embarrassed. Why would any nurse want to subject a female patient to have to go ...
  5. Over-Restaining Patients

I hope when I get old and in the NH that someone will have pity on me and help me to lay down on my bed instead of making me sit up in a chair all day or have to sit up straight with a thing in front of me or lean over an overbed table. Could this ...
  6. Wouldn't you consider this stealing???

I think what she means is that the thieves try to make her look petty to the other employees. Not petty to us. I was just wondering what the thieves think......."So the OP buys a bulletin board for her office, sticky notes to use....so is she suppo...

  8. What is with the crazy parents?? --vent--

Is that legal in an ER???
  9. What is with the crazy parents?? --vent--

I understand what you're saying about all the drama from the parents, but if it were MY baby I'd be very worried, too, being the baby is only 26 days old. I'd be worried the child would go into status. At 26 days old, they really don't have enough e...
  10. What if the patient is too sick or unresponsive to do codes or passwords? Who is going to take responsibility then, for the patient? Sounds to me like HIPAA could cause trouble.
  11. Is it any surprise that in the first article there is no reference to LPN's? I saw registered nurses, certified nursing aides, physical therapists, and occupational therapists mentioned, but not LPN's. I guess we don't count as nurses. Not in OK a...
  12. Now I'm not so sure

To me, the LPN is a very satisfying job. It is just one step on the ladder. You can get your LPN and stop there, or go on for your RN. RN does afford more opportunities, and better pay, but also awhole lot more responsibility. I am satisfied in my...
  13. I took boards so long ago before NCLEX even existed. We did it on paper with pencil, marking the answer sheets, and it took 6 weeks to find out I'd passed. In 1974. California.
  14. LPN role in ACC, and so confused...

Personally I would go with the hospital position, if I could get it. What is ACC? Is it Advanced Cardiac Care or something like that? Man, if it was, I'd go with that...excuse the pun....in a heartbeat.
  15. Help Me Save My Clothes

Try that OxyClean spray for laundry. It got gel ink out of some blue jeans, for me.
  16. Being made to work as an aide...need advice

Sounds like the DON is playing favorites, and sorry to say it, but you aren't it.
  17. Kids talking like nurses

Looks like ya'll are bringing up the next generation of nurses!!! Homeschooling for future nurses. lol
  18. Why don't nurses join the ANA?

Do you all think that the ANA is what is behind the efforts to the eventual demise of the LPN position?
  19. What's Your Best Nursing Ghost Story?

I have a strange story to tell. Not nursing related, but strange. I would say about 15-18 years ago, my nephew and niece were at my mother's house. {Her grandchildren**. I was in town. So that afternoon, my mother said that she heard ME outside ca...
  20. Residents who don't get along

That someone has to live in a room with someone who yells at them all the time. Not the changing of rooms. That is done all the time. My reply that I gave about the abuse was in response to the OP's message of one resident yelling at another one. I...
  21. Residents who don't get along

    To me, that's abuse.
  22. Is this considered dispensing meds?

Do you have to make the judgement on whether the person gets this pill or that pill at a certain time, or are the residents alert and oriented enough to say which ones they should take at any given time? IMHO, if you're having to look at the labels ...
  23. Spouse adjustment problems? HELP!

I'm not married, but I wanted to put in my worth here. Yall can take it for what it's worth to ya or trash it, but at least read it. My advice is to somehow, someway, however you want to do it in your relationship with your husbands, is to tell th...
  24. Can someone please help me?

I don't have any suggestions to offer you for this incident other than the excellent suggestions others have already offered, but I do have one for the future. When they give you your assignment, is it possible that you could go over it with the cha...
  25. Long term care desk nurse?

Just some food for thought............ If you have a CMT....does your "floor" nurse still have to pass meds? If she does, I personally would be afraid to commit myself to just a desk job, because what's going to happen is if your "floor" nurse calls...
