  1. RN-MSN For Unemployed New Grad

Nick, in the Pa area, Abbington has an adn program; unfortunately, they have not been able to place many of their grads in positions at their own institution. In the city/Philadelphia, the BSN is the new standard. Many of the grads at the Drexel ACE ...
  2. Unemployed After Graduation: Remaining Employable

make sure you do a nurse externship program, this is a good way to get your foot in the door, or atleast get real world paid experience
  3. RN-MSN For Unemployed New Grad

military requires 6 months of experience before they sign you on.
  4. I am graduating with a degree in liberal arts next year...

become a CNA so that you get experience and discover first hand whether or not you want to devote time and money to become a nurse. be advised that many new grads with BSNs are not getting jobs because of the recession.
  5. If you want to be a PA, MD, etc... it makes no sense for you to pursue a BSN. You are already a nurse. It would make more sense for you to pursue the pre-requisites for those programs as opposed to Community Health, ethics, and other courses that are...
  6. Drexel University ACE Spring 2011

She is absolutely right about this. However, the dreaded HESI could be the least of your concerns; once you understand the format and do your review, anyone can pass the test. I went from scoring in the mid-50% to the top 5% and I did not attend coll...
  7. Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

yes, i did it. I am now working at a great place!
  8. Hesi Exit Test

If you begin with how to read questions and test taking strategies, I think student outcomes will be greater. That was a big issue of mine. Remediation and content review are much easier.
  9. Hesi Exit Test

The HESI is doable. I went from 79.5/842 to 94/1022 by try #4 and passed NCLEX with 75 q's. It really helped me to organize my study strategy by looking at the trends in my individual HESI results; for example, I started with endocrine, mental healt...
  10. Hesi Exit Test

This is definitely wrong if they switched standards on your cohort midstream. If this is the case, you need to organize as a group and approach the dean; however, they can change standards for the next cohort of students while your groups is still at...
  11. Hesi Exit Test

At Drexel U in Philly, the HESI is the be all and end all to nursing. If you do not pass, you do not get your BSN.
  12. Volunteering at a hospital when your already licensed.

Thank you for this information! Im from the Philadelphia area where there are a glut of nursing programs and new grads. But Im still hopeful...
  13. Volunteering at a hospital when your already licensed.

This is a good question. I would like to do the same as jobs are really short in my neck of the woods and I feel like I am losing my skills that I've learned in school very quickly.
  14. Hesi Exit Test

For those of you who did not pass the HESI, don't get down in the dumps . I "flunked" 3x: from just shy of 80 to just shy of 94. You can not pass at Drexel unless you get an 87, now it is a 90. Before doing the ACE Drexel program, I attended excellen...
  15. Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

HESIs are harder because you may not be familiar with the format/how they are asking the question. Every time I did practice questions from the DVDs/website for the HESI (women's, mental, and community health), I scored in the 90s. If I had practice...
  16. Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

Hi Cali, From my experience, I would say the "drop out" rate was about 10% in my section of about 80 people. But I would say the 30% mark is about right overall. If you flunk a class, you probably have to wait about 6 months to re-join the next cycle...
  17. Survivng Drexel ACE - advice pls!

My credit was good but I was still denied by atleast 2 places. I did not have a co-signer. Luckily, I used my old lender from Vermont who I used for my undergrad as well as a grad degree. Otherwise, I would have been out of luck.
  18. Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

I would agree with August Rain. I did not use those reviews/rationales while studying for classes but they are great now that I am studying for NCLEX. I do not know if they are the best idea for the classes themselves as the class exams are usually f...
  19. Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

honestly, you can easily get by without buying a single book in this program except for med surg, pharm, and assessment as references. However, some of the books have CDs/website access which can help you study for HESIs. I also found that reading n...
  20. Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

Hi! Here's a different perspective. I agree that the info is not rocket science but realize that, at least for me, I never felt that I had enough time to solidify the material. Finals are scheduled with no reading days so often you have two days to r...
  21. 2nd Degree Accelerated BSN at Pittsburgh or Drexel?

i'm happy to hear this! although I have learned a lot at Drexel, I found it to be lacking in organization with regards to scheduling of exams. It seems to me that some administrators are overwhelmed by the quarter system as well. Your experience as a...
  22. 2nd Degree Accelerated BSN at Pittsburgh or Drexel?

Well, I think that when you condense a program like Drexel does, you miss a whole lot of necessary clinical experience as well as the learning process. I have learned a lot here at Drexel but I do not feel on top of the material by any means.
  23. Survivng Drexel ACE - advice pls!

I would have to second that sentiment. I am not the best crammer in the world and it seems that managing the exhaustion level of juggling clinicals and commuting have gotten the best of me. Still, I think if your are good at memorizing lots of powerp...
  24. Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09

My biggest problem was that I came from a college background based upon research and writing. However, I did have a full year of full-time pre-rec classes at a local community college which prepared me well for power point regurgitation classes. Even...
  25. Survivng Drexel ACE - advice pls!

Hello! Don't get discouraged as the time invested in classes will not be wasted. You probably have researched many opportunities. As an fyi, UPenn offers financial assistance to their post-bac program. However, their program is much longer and the ap...
