  1. I started as an LPN at a local specialty hospital for medically complex, more long term kids. We have a broad range of medical issues, but the kids are pretty stable. In fact, if they have anything too serious, we transfer them out. Most of the kids ...
  2. Is this peds experience going to help me at all?

So sorry, I forgot to update: I got the job!!!! And they are paying me as a nurse with experience for my time as an LPN! Thanks for all your encouraging words, orientation starts in another week.
  3. Post job interview questions and answers here!

here were some of the ones I got last week: describe the most challenging pt you've cared for give an example of a time you turned a negative situation into a positive one why should we hire you? give an example of a time when you made a decision wit...
  4. How long to wait to hear back about a job?

yeah, I should have thought of that at the time, I was just really nervous because I want the job really badly.
  5. I applied for a PICU job last week. I feel the interview went well but assumed there were likely other candidates for the job still to be interview since my interview was at the beginning of the week. I haven't heard anything back, and the only thing...
  6. Is this peds experience going to help me at all?

Well, I got an interview for monday!!!! The director who called me said that they like to see nurses with peds experience like mine so I guess they do count it afterall! Now I'm going to be a nervous wreck preparing
  7. My personality is very laid back and pretty reserved, but its causing me some problems in my job because pt families (work in peds) don't take me seriously or question me. The thing is, I graduated at the top of my class, I did great on NCLEX, I know...
  8. can you bridge from RN to MD?

Maybe that's a dumb question, but I was talking with my NP about her experience with NP school and she says she wished she'd just gotten her MD instead. Is there a way to do that as an RN without starting from scratch?
  9. rose state college..advice anything you can give to help

I'll be graduating from Rose next week!!! In terms of requirements, Rose has lower req's for sciences (I believe chemistry is still not required, and there isn't a math req) compared to other 2-yr programs in this area, but its still competitive from...
  10. Nurse partner ot OU Medical Center

they only list openings near the ends of semesters when positions open up from nursing students graduating. I've heard they are tough to get, but if I weren't working as an LPN and needed the money, I'd love to do it!
  11. LPN FIRST OR RN???????????????????

she said she didn't get into the two RN programs she applied to
  12. LPN FIRST OR RN???????????????????

For me, I loved the class size and the closeness of our group in LPN. For RN we have new instructors every 8wks, and new classmates. Half have been together since the beginning so they are close, but not like when we were in LPN and together every da...
  13. Can RN student take the LPN test?

the only skills I can't do as an LPN in my state are an initial assessment, draw ABG's, and write care plans. Some hospitals allow us to hang blood, but others don't. I can do everything else an RN can in my state. CNA is a 2-3wk program and LPN is 1...
  14. will my LPN be counted as experience?

I am finishing my RN degree, but I just got hired as an LPN and am working as a peds nurse. I plan to work all through the rest of school until I graduate in May. I'm thinking I'll just stay at the hospital I'm at doing Peds until I'm ready to move t...
  15. Can RN student take the LPN test?

wow, that is so rude to say "it would be like going backwards"! I just completed my LPN and joined my RN class in their 3rd semester. I assumed we would be in about the same place knowledge-wise, but I actually covered far more in my LPN, than this R...
  16. LPN FIRST OR RN???????????????????

exactly! It's much easier to get into a bridge program because of that reason! Plus, in my area you get so many extra points for having your LPN when applying. Since you have a 3.4 I have no doubt you'd get into a bridge right away.
  17. Starting salaries of various states?

I'm in OK, and the hospitals right now are offering about $18-19/hr for new grads. I'm an LPN (graduating from RN in May) and I work in a specialty hospital making $18/hr with shift diff., but the hopsitals in my area pay new LPNs about $12-14/hr. Th...
  18. LPN FIRST OR RN???????????????????

This is exactly what I did and I'm so glad I did!!! When it came time to apply to RN I was short one class so I would have had to wait for the next application season, I was so ready to get started so I decided to jump into LPN and bridge straight i...
  19. Shocked by What Nursing Really Is!!

do you work in LTC? If so, that is a BIG part of it. I just got my LPN and will finish RN in May, and you couldn't pay me to work at many of the LTC places in my area, because the nurses don't have any real pt care to do. Meds are delegated to med. a...
  20. Sorry for the brag, I'm just so excited I just finished LPN school and am bridging into RN in the 3rd semester. It's OB/Peds and everyone has said is the hardest of the 4 semesters, and I found out last week 7 students failed out last semester. So, ...
  21. Opportunities for new grad LPN

I just graduated w/ my LPN and am working on my RN now, so I'll only be working as an LPN for about 6mo or so, but... St. Anthony, VA, Deaconess, Midwest Regional, and Baptist (sometimes) all hire LPN's. There are lots of other smaller/specialty hosp...

  24. Help! I just took Nclex-PN and it cut me off at 85!!!!

I was just SURE I'd failed and since I start my RN tomorrow I was trying not to have a total breakdown over it, the "trick" made me feel much better. I was surprised at how quick the board got my license done. I took boards on the 14th, and they iss...
  25. Help! I just took Nclex-PN and it cut me off at 85!!!!

why don't you just do the trick? I did that and it calmed me down a TON! Also, the phone option bills the amount to your home phone so that might be an option if you don't have cash on hand or on a debit/credit card.
