  1. Tricks for putting down NG tubes?

I thought Cetacaine was only to be used for intubation as it numbs them to the point of not having a gag reflex. Do they have a milder Cetacaine out there now? I don't know where I work they have a special dept for each and every little thing inclu...
  2. Do Nurses Eat Their Young?

Where are you people working???? Every nurse on my 51 bed floor is willing and happy to teach the new nurses. And acting dumb would not thrill me. People didn't make it through nursing school being dumb so I'd be curious where this person came fro...
  3. Do Nurses Eat Their Young?

I don't know Kimbacats There are small towns up in that area where people treat outsiders strangly to say the least-maybe that was the problem with the preceptor. With you not having experience in acute care you needed a good perceptor!!! Don't be ...

  6. Are there any nurses who actually enjoy their jobs?

In June I will have been a nurse for 20 years. Sometimes I hate it , but overall I love my job and there isn't anything I'd rather do. You have to learn to relax at work and be calm. If you are stressed your patients will pick up on that vibe and the...
  7. worried about my getting my license :(

I don't think so. I really don't think they care about traffic offenses. I know a girl who got busted for drugs and got her license, That was 20years ago but still. I wouldn't worry about it.
  8. Above and Beyond Scope

I would want my CNA to give juice and sugar instead of waiting for me. As a diabetic I would want anyone to give me sugar if I was low-it's a horrible feeling I wouldn't want to wait for an RN to approve me having juice. I think you had a good CNA ...

  15. Transfer at change of shift?

Totally off the subject againThanks. That was my Baby. He died several years ago but I had him for 14 years. Is that a pic of your husky? He's cute!!
  16. Transfer at change of shift?

I've felt the same way about ER. But after being a patient down there and watching them I have to agree with the above post. All different departments, different shifts want to assume the other doesn't do enough. Well guess what it's not true. All sh...
  17. When people say they are nurses but not...

yeah I know it says that but by what you were writing here I wasn't sure if that meant you had been taking care of a family member for years. Sorry

I've never seen a male nurse act that way, but I am sure there are ones that do
  23. Do Nurses Eat Their Young?

Because it's not so much that they eat their young. It's just that you get a bunch of stressed out woman together and there will be bickering-doesn't much matter whether it's their young or not. The male nurses don't play that game.
  24. Pain from ischemic cardiac or noncardiac origin?

When I had my MI I had Nausea/Vomiting, Very anxious and squeezing (L)arm pain. I eventually developed (L)sided Chest Pain too but that was near the end of it. For the first few hours I just had the (L)arm pain
  25. Pain from ischemic cardiac or noncardiac origin?

One thing that can sometimes differentiate between cardiac and non cardiac is to have patient take a deep breath and if it hurts more with deep inspiration it is usually Pulmonary. However and especialy with women I would never rely on that. I woul...
