We had a class - but learned nothing. I have been told that there is VERY LITTLE on the test. Just go over your review stuff and you will be fine. But, I will take the test in a few weeks and let you know first hand. Best - Justjenn

Have you talked with your instructors - can they shed any light? Are you over-studying? I would speak with them first. If you made the Deans list in school - in nursing- I would contact someone at the Boards & ask them if they can enlighten you - tell you where you are going wrong. Good point - BUT what about people who can't read or that are elderly? There are many people where I live that do not have an education - many are elderly. I'd like to point out that the "uniform" can be a sort of scrub - it's not like having to wear a dress - although it could be - I was going for a sort of a certain style with a certain color for nurses. AND YES, I do think that other healthcare workers should have the same applied to them - it's just that nurses are more called on than a RT or OT. KEEP THEM COMING - I TAKE NO OFFENSE - THIS IS GREAT justjenn

OK, what about UPS drivers, postal employees, waitresses and waiters, some department stores - Best Buy, Circuit City, Home Depot & Lowes & some food stores have vests they have to wear. ALL THESE PROFESSIONS ARE IMPORTANT. If you want to mention education - well, Airline pilots - heck - airlines in general use uniforms, some people that work behind the cosmetic counters (which we try to avoid) had to go to a 1yr. long program. Judges wear robes, and attorneys usually have to wear suits when they go to court - different colors - yeah, but suits all the same. And doctors in hospitals usually wear a labcoat with their name & title in very clear letters. No, they may not wear a uniform underneath, but most people I talked to say that if they see a guy in a labcoat, they usually believe it's a doctor. I'm not shooting down your answer, but I have to make points for my speech. justjenn

Hello - I am doing a public speech for school & I could use your help. My point I am trying to make is that many patients and their families cannot distinguish who are nurses/nurses aids/custodians and that I think the US should have a way, besides our name tags, that can clearly tell us apart. Whether nurses should wear blue & white scrubs, nursing assistants where green & white, so on. Do you have a uniform code? How do you determine who is who? Do you still have colored dresses? DO you still wear caps? Thanks - a :) ny help would be great.

Hi Everyone. I need your help in regards to an opinion poll for my public speaking class. It would help me out alot if you could take a minute to cast your vote. Even better, let me know your opinion. It is on whether or not there should be a national uniform for nurses. So those on the east coast will be the same as those on the west. That is sooooo me. I agree w/ my whole heart & soul. Funny thing with me is, if a pregnant woman is walking in one door, I will walk in another. After doing clinicals 2 times in PACU, it amazes me that the human race still goes on. :rotfl: Give me a nursing home, hospice, or PACU w/out pregnant aftermaths & I am fine.

A - 100-90 B - 89-80 C - 79-75 Anything below 75 is failing. As far as our NCLEX rate - our school had 100% last graduating class & usually maintained a 98% 3yrs. prior to that. They really weed the students out early. Happy to say, I am growing into a flower. :) justjenn

as a lpn nursing student, i have been questioned many times as to "why aren't you going to be a rn?" or, i love it(sarcastic) when people see my name tag & ask me what spn means - when i tell them - practical nurse - they just say "oh, i thought you were a real nurse?" :angryfire seems like many people are against us - ana, sna, hospitals, the public in general. in my clinical experience, i have only come across a few rn's that look down on lpn's & even more so- student lpn's. most of them will spend of their time & effort & kindness teaching a rn or bsn student important nursing information (that lpn's also need to know)- while the lpn students are busy doing bedbaths & changing briefs. i have yet to see the 4 yr. nursing students in our hospital help, let alone, change a bedpan. i have been hit w/the hard dish of reality that, other than nursing homes & some floor nursing, there is not many places for us. originally, i wanted to work in a ltc, but i got a taste for er & pacu. unfortunately, even after i get my lic., i cannot be hired as a nurse in these areas, but have to settle for a tech. differences - well, i do not feel that there is much. heck, we can even learn to start iv's after taking a 3 week course after graduation. most differences, i feel, have a lot to do with medicine. lpn's are like the "jack of all trades & masters of none." rn's are a little more "tuned." my biggest problem is with people, especially on this forum, that state to lpn's who are unhappy w/the lack of respect "why don't you go for your rn?" this makes me soooo :angryfire :angryfire . some people do not want all the responsibilities the rn's have, or can't get into a program, or just want to be a patient nurse. well, i guess i can step off of my soapbox now. hope this gives you some insite. remember, be proud that you are a lpn student. and above all don't let anyone ever tell you that you are not a real nurse understand? :) justjenn

I, as a SPN had an expierence last week that is still haunting me. We have started "team nursing" 4 pt.'s per 1. charge nurse, 1 med.nurse & 2 pt. care nurses. Ok - well, we were short 1 pt. care nurse, so I had 4 pt.'s to shower, feed, dress, do assessments, treatments & change beds in 3 1/2 hrs. in a nursing home that I had only been to 2 times last year. (this may seem like cake to some of you, but remember, I am a student & am not real fast). Well, to make a long story short, I ran my butt off & tried not to ask for help. In the "real" world, I may have to do this, so, I tried to handle it myself. Apparently, the stress showed on my face & the student med. nurse helped me out & gave one of my pt.'s a shower. The scary thing to me is that, I was so busy going from one to the other giving showers & handing out meals trays - I was unable to get back to all of them & check to see how they were doing. Someone could have choked on their breakfast while I was getting "hosed down" by a patient in the shower & who relieved themself after they were all clean. I felt that I was very neglectful, but besides for asking for more help, I do not see how in the blazes I could have done any better. If something did happen to one of those patients, I would have taken full blame. But, getting back to the LPN, RN thing. Honestly, how does one say "I cannot do this assignment." What does one do - you have a RN & LPN, thats it. So then what? Is not the hospital to blame because they do not staff their floors? Aren't they the ones who are really very neglectful? Why should they have put their nurses in that kind of situation? Anyway, my too cents. justjenn

Today, we saw our pin. I must say, I am disappointed. Our school symbol (some sort of metal structure) is on it & it looks like a member :imbar . Have you guys ever seen a "bomb-pop"? It is a sort of ice pop that are Red/White & Blue. It kinda resembles that. Well, this symbol is in the center of the "southern cross" Now, when I think of "southern crosses" I think of WWI & Germany's Red Baron or Bikers. Not something that you would associate with nursing. Can someone tell me about the belt with the clasp that was/is worn with the nursing uniforms? Does it serve a purpose? Is it tradition & if so, what is the story behind it? Reason for asking, is that I always thought they were sharp looking. And also, I am throwing a HUGE HP party (2nd annual) this June for the movie & have made a Madame Pomfrey costume. I noticed she wore one. Again, I hope this doesn't offend anyone, me asking. best regards- justjenn

Far be it for me to say anything regarding what other people post, but sometimes people are very rude. When people post things that make me mad, I respond to it AFTER thinking it through. And then, always in a matter of RESPECT. Buddhakan As a paralegal (now in my 2nd semester of nursing school), I realize that things do happen. And I have never been a person who is "sue" happy. One reason I left the field was because I could not live w/ myself knowing that I am helping a person steal from tax payers. I am very scared about being sued as a nurse, just like teachers are scared about teaching kids - due to the stupid parents who think it is teachers jobs to teach the kids right from wrong. You are a new member I see. Try and be alittle more tactful. If it happened to you, you may be doing the same thing. and as for sjoe - If I was your patient and was trying to describe a problem I was having, but the words were failing me, would you respond in that same manner? LETS ALL BE KIND AND RESPECT ONE ANOTHER. justjenn

Thank you for your input. My husband is going to get me something from the drug store. I used to work w/race horses, I got it from them. One of the people, whom I trusted, told me that it was a ring of worms/like a dog would get and the best thing to do is squeeze them out. SOOOOOO, like a dumb-a--, I cut open my arm w/ a razor & try digging for them. ( I am scared to death or worms). Needless to say, I never got any, but he found me passed-out in one of the barn stalls w/blood all over the place. The owner of the horses found out & made him buy me dinner for a week and gave me his horse, Tyler's Best to the races that night & I won over $600.00 That'll teach him. best-

OK, so my cat was clipped at Petsmart & they cut her. 3 weeks later, she has ringworm. I took her to the vet & they gave me shampoo & spray for her. Having to bath her every 4 days - boy she hates me. Well, now, I have it. .:imbar Any suggestions on what I can take to cure me? I had clinicals Tuesday & Wednesday & I feel so bad because I could have infected one of my pt.'s (although I always wash my hands & wear gloves.). Even though I am only in my 1st semester in LPN school, I am praying that I graduate. But, I am wanting to know if I can wear & thin, black stripe after graduation. I am aware that each nursing school has their own cap style, but I did not know if an LPN/LVN can wear the strip. Also, I understand that the RN's can wear a "thick" black stripe (if you went to a 3 yr. school). So, will I err if I wear a thin stripe? just dreaming justjenn

I know, another shoe thread. BUT - are Dansko's suppose to be loose on your feet? It is hard because I cannot wear clogs for school - but when I try on the Dansko shoe w/ heel - my feet are loose in the shoe - BUT, they don't slip off my feet and the arch feels good. They are not molded to my feet or soft like others. Is this normal? justjenn

I am sending you a big hug! If you like what you are seeing in the ER & you see that you like nursing - DON"T GIVE UP. You do have a lot on your plate. It can be done. Keep up w/ the work. Do a little everyday and try not to fall behind. Look, I felt/feel the same way you do. I no-longer work & I still feel overwhelmed w/ tests everyother day. Today, took a test (mind you it is only day 3) and I cried my eyes out afterwards because I thought I did bad on it. And to my shock - I got a B (low B, but still a B). Chin up - head high & REACH for the sky. You can do it, honestly. justjenn

Can someone/anyone tell me the difference or the meaning behind the different sytles of caps? Some look like dixie cups, others have huge wings - some are small & compact w/ small wings? Is it RN vs. LPN styles or what? I know the ribbons mean something - like 1 stripe means ____? And 2 means ____? thanks Justjenn PS We get to wear caps in our LPN program - but they are very small & just fit on the back part of your skull. I like the smaller winged style myself:D

Not everyone can be a nurse and not everyone should be a nurse. A calling is not a lightning bolt on the head from God, but something inside you that leads you to want to help and take care of those who cannot. Some are only in it for the $$$. And yes, there are places that do pay nurse's well, and these are the nurse's that complain about everything, everyone and are not happy. It's a job to them. This may piss some of you off,being that I am not offically a nurse yet, but, I can tell you from the 13 different nurses that I know, well, that this is the conclusion that I have come to & this is MY opinion. justjenn
