  1. NCLEX-RN shut off at 75, had 30 SATA!?!

I took the NCLEX-RN this morning. It shut off at 75. I had 30 SATA and 2 med calc questions. I feel pretty good about it b/c all the questions were "high level" questions, but man! Some of those questions were crazy! Anyhoo, I have to wait 48 hrs to ...
  2. How many new grads changed jobs within 1 year

I graduated with my BSN in May '08 too, and started orientation on a med surg floor of a nearby magnet hospital. In retrospect, I felt well supported, I had constant access to more experienced nurses for help, and my supervisor was a sweetheart. How...
  3. Alcoholism: disease or choice?

I've heard amazing stories about people hitting rock bottom and then quitting drinking forever. Sometimes the worse off you were, the easier it is to remember that you simply MUST NOT pick up a drink again. It's a bit tougher for me b/c I quit drinki...
  4. Alcoholism: disease or choice?

Alcoholism is an addiction - but the choice eventually comes down to whether or not a person is going to take that first drink or not. People in recovery stay sober by choosing to NOT drink one day at a time - but the actual alcoholism gets set in mo...
  5. Is nursing really all that bad?

Some people love nursing. Personally, I recently graduated with my RN/BSN and started working in a hospital and I absolutely hated it. I just had an interview this morning to work as a nurse in a doctor's office, and hopefully I'll get that b/c I ca...
  6. I just graduated in May and have been working Med-surg at a community hospital. I got my RN/BSN b/c I wanted to help people. I took a med-surg job b/c I was told that you need 1 year of med-surg. It's a magnet hospital and the people are great, but ...
  7. Maybe it was a big mistake to be a nurse :(

Yes, it does hurt to have them suggest I resign. I think that's why I'm upset about the whole thing. Though I have to admit, I am very glad not to be working there anymore. It really just wasn't for me. I was told that my interactions with the patie...
  8. New Grad Med/Surg nervous

I recently graduated with my BSN. I took the NCLEX right away to get it over with so I've got my RN. I started working on a med-surg floor and absolutely hated it. or the past two months I've been there I actually thought I was pregnant b/c I kept f...
  9. Maybe it was a big mistake to be a nurse :(

Well, I resigned today. They mentioned again that I seem unhappy and that if I resigned they would write me lovely recommendation letters, and so that's that. I mean, they obviously don't even want me there. I learned a big lesson though. I need to ...
  10. Maybe it was a big mistake to be a nurse :(

Well, I'm stressed out by all the things I have to do, and the fear of making a mistake is awful - but I'm also having a hard time dealing with the type of work involved. I have a very sensitive sense of smell. I was even wondering if I might be pre...
  11. Maybe it was a big mistake to be a nurse :(

You're so right! At my hospital where I'm on orientation now on med-surg, there's a woman who's been an RN for three years who wanted to be an OR nurse, but they said they only hire experienced OR nurses for that. But one of the brand new grads got h...
  12. Maybe it was a big mistake to be a nurse :(

Yes, I am glad about that!
  13. Maybe it was a big mistake to be a nurse :(

I don't think that I ever expected med-surg to be different, I just somehow thought that I wouldn't hate it like I did in school. Dumb, I know. The situation feels hopeless right now. I'm dreading going to work tomorrow. I got my weekly evaluation ...
  14. "Why are you proud of that ??!!"

Congrats on 9 years!!! I have been sober over 6 years (I quit before I started nursing school) but I keep it completely "hush hush" from practically everyone except my immediate family since so many people don't get it... when they hear "recovering...
  15. First Rn position, orientation and Pregnancy!?

Sadly, my baby girl miscarried at 9 weeks, so I wasn't pregnant when I started orientation last month. She died of a chromosomal abnormality according to the pathology report of the fetus. But I'm thinking (hoping) that I might be pregnant again :he...
  16. I graduate with my BSN in 6 weeks (May 19th) and I start work on a telemetry unit on July 7th... I'm doing a 3 month orientation and then start working full time nights 12 hr shifts... I'm nervous (and excited) about doing telemetry/med-surg, nervous...

  19. I went to Pace Pleasantville and I thought it was a good program. I know one of my classmates started working at NY Presbyterian as an aide and got a scholarship for the last semester of school and then got a job there as an RN... I also got hired (b...

  23. How long did it take you to complete the RN program?

You're right, med school is 4 years, but that's AFTER 4 years of undergrad! A BSN is just the 4 years of undergrad :) And doctors have to do 3 years of residency after med school.
  24. NCLEX-RN shut off at 75, had 30 SATA!?!

    Congrats Lyndsey RN!
  25. How long did it take you to complete the RN program?

It took me 5 years to finish my BSN. It took 2 years to get all the pre-reqs done, then I transferred into a university and had another 3 years. I just found out today that I passed my NCLEX-RN!! And I start work in 2 weeks on a cardiac telemetry flo...
