If you are on a student visa, you can get one year work experience on that visa in the U.S. its called optional practical training

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. You should talk to your school about applying for OPT with the F1 visa. You can work up to 1 year with OPT, but it can take up to 3 months to get approved for it.
