  4. Questions: Nurses leaving the Profession

Too bad office nursing doesn't pay as well as hospital nursing..at least in my area I'd be forced to take a 10 dollar/hr pay cut!! And yes....not only are we expected to kiss the butt of the patient but we have to kiss the family's butt as well.........
  5. I know what you mean.......I was fired almost TWO yrs ago and am having a heck of a time finding another job at a decent facility. Add another person to the HATE Nursing crowd!

  8. WORK: Name tags

My badge has my picture on it, the name of my facility with logo, my full name, title and department. I cover up my last name.....and have two pins with RN and CCRN on them......no one has said anything to me about having my last name covered on my ...

That is what I get too at my current place....
  10. Like I've said earlier, moving is not an option.....I've got a child and a spouse....The ONLY other areas I'd consider moving to are ER or OB and my current manager is the boss of OB.....I have also heard from other people here that they won't allow ...
  11. Thanks....anyplace I've interviewed I have explained the situation that led to me being fired.....all managers seemed OK with it but I don't get hired because once their HR dept calls that employer, they're told I am not eligible for rehire and THAT ...
  12. I could try to commute to Cleveland, OH but it is 80 miles from where I live so the commute would be about 90 minutes to two hours.....don't want to drive that far in the winter, kwim? I got an email from a place where I applied online and it said, t...
  13. Advice needed re:career (sorry long)

Thanks all for your support.......like I said, relocating is just NOT an option for me as I've got a family and a mortgage so relocating is out. Got an email today from one of the hospitals that I had submitted an online application for an ICU positi...
  14. ANGRY! There's no place to eat or drink 'round here!

That is actually an OSHA policy, I do believe. I know at my place we are not supposed to have any food or drink in the patient care areas and that includes the nurses station......they don't really enforce it though. We only hide our drinks/food if...
  15. Your coworker is right on!! I've worked in four different hospitals now and nursing administrators are pretty much ALL Devils Spawn!! Where I am at now, a small community 135 bed hospital, the DON could care LESS about our staffing or lack thereof. ...

  17. Advice needed re:career (sorry long)

Also, I don't want to make waves at my current job because obviously I've got a mortgage and a child to feed like most people do. And if I were to get fired from this current place.....well, it would REALLY look bad, kwim?
  18. Advice needed re:career (sorry long)

See I don't really think that what I did was a med error. I've discussed it with a LOT of practicing RN and LPN's and have gotten the "yeah, ok, so what was the problem look" Even some of the physicians (interns) that I work with don't think that ...
  19. WANNA Hear another one? We have a pt in our ICU who's bladder got nicked during surgery last week. Surgeon told the family that the nurse on the floor nicked it when they put in a foley catheter!!! Family refuses to be placed on that floor and now ...
  20. Thanks. Good idea but I don't know if the agencies are hiring because the hospitals in my area are trying to get away from using agency RN's. Basically the RN's that work agency in my area get sent to local nursing homes........I also need a steady...
  21. Yeah, if mopping floors paid as well as nursing did, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Heck the jitney drivers at the local GE get paid as much as an RN with my experience and credentials!! Better benefits, no weekends, no hollidays!
  22. Advice needed re:career (sorry long)

  25. How do you clean your shoes?

I use the Sani-wipes. They're supposed to kill anything...MRSA, VRE, HIV, HepB, HepC, etc. I try to do this once a shift considering that the housekeepers where I work rarely ever sweep or mop the floors in my unit! It's DISGUSTING!!
