  1. Med/Surg

To be quite honest, I do not enjoy med surge as an LVN. I would much rather work in LTC until I get my RN. I guess it would depend on how much you enjoy being an aide, because that is pretty much what I was when I did med/surge nursing. I mean we wou...
  2. How do I get my CNA?

See if any of your local hospitals are putting on a class. A lot of colleges put on the class, as well as the amrerican red cross. You sould do it! It is a great way to get started in nursing. It is a lot of hard work though.
  3. Compassion.... why is it so hard to give some?

I must admit that I was starting to feel my compassion slipping away earlier this year. I took the summer off. It did me so much good. Now I am full of compassion for my patients and my job once again. I feel that that is the best thing to do for you...
  4. Routine Tylenol #3 and PRN administration

I have seen orders like this. I would give the routine dose, and tell the patient to "give this one a chance to work, if it doesn't then I will give you another." I would definantly talk to the physician. maybe he just needs something a little stron...
  5. Do people treat you different when they find out you are a nurse?

I must say that some do. It has already been said that it is not a "gold mine" Job. It is a noble profession, and it is also quite an accomplishment.
  6. "Nancy" and Babs

WOW!!! That is great. I have found nursing to be a real struggle lately. Maybe that is something that would work for me.
  7. Here is my situation. I am a new LVN. I have been having a bit of a hard time. I know if I wait too much longer on moving up to RN, I won't want to do it anymore. Anyway, I have my heart set on an RN program that will start around Fall of 2009. I do ...
  8. Thank you I will check it out. :)
  9. I just got one today, and it came out amazing. Its a butterfly that fades from green to blue to purple with the lettering LVN 2007 under it. Just wondering if anyone else has gotten any tats to commemorate their nursing accomplishments.
  10. Newbie lifting question

Some of the facilities that I have worked at are considered "no lift" facilities. If the patient cannot stand and bear weight to the point where you are doing their physical work, you must use a hoyer lift or a standing frame with them. A lot of plac...
  11. Ok . . . she is a/o and confused at times, and says horrible things to the staff, and is out if control! The other day, I was nothing but nice to her. I took care of her every need, even when she rang the call bell every 5 minutes. I was getting tir...
  12. mine shut off at 85, and I had a ton of those stupid check all that apply ones. I thought for sure I did not pass, but I did. Best of luck!!!
  13. "twas The Night Before Christmas ~Senior Style

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!! That was GREAT!!!! So true too.
  14. Leave it to me to write something sappy . . . lol. I really hate it when I get frustrated with long term care. If I go home frustrated and dreading the next day, I just feel so cold hearted and sad, especially around the holidays. We get punched, c...
  15. Tattoos & Nursing

My tats are generally covered at work, but I am not ashamed if one pops out. I got my tattoos for a reason, and they are all tattoos I am proud of, otherwise I would not have gotten the. I also plan on getting more. I also sport a nose stud. I think ...
  16. Nursing and tattoos

I have 3 . . .and I am just getting started. when I get old, and my skin sags . . . so be it. Its not going to sag any time soon I hope, so I will have many years of enjoyment of my tattoos. I probably will be a living canvas, because thats just what...
  17. Do You Have a Bad Back from Nursing?

Mine is not good for being 22! I hurt it really bad when I was 18, and I do have constant pain. I do not medicate every day, but often I have no choice but to pop a pill. Ive gone to chiropractors, but it always works its way out of alignment again. ...
  18. Do you have a best friend at work?

I do have a couple of them. I would not work there if there was not some one who I could relate to, and some one to relate to me.
  19. Patient Beats Up Nursing Staff Member

I would have been SO angry, especially after being asked for coffee in a demeaning manner after all that.
  20. Patient Beats Up Nursing Staff Member

That is just scary. It actually sounds like a nightmare I recently had of being beaten at work, and no one came to help. That is very sad. I would have backed my co-worker up all the way . . . Maybe they were concerned about the possibility of assaul...
  21. A deeper view of long term care and paying it forward

Wow! You all seem like amazingly compassionate people yourselves. I really do wish people who knew me know that I do actually have compassion in my heart. I'm NOT a smiley person by any means, but I do try to smile when the time is right . . . I just...
  22. I've felt kind of bummed about still working as an aide after graduation. Its not like I have the attitude that it is below me, because it isn't. We are all in this together, but I have gone through two years of nursing school to be doing new and dif...
  23. Working as an CNA after finding out you passed????

Thank you very much. I sent you a message with more details.
  24. I Saw that Commerical Again!

Nothing irritates me more that being whistled at like a dog, called "Hey! Waitress!", or any other demeaning way of summoning help. I just want to scream!!! I am not anyones dog or waitress . . . I do not take that all that well either.
  25. Holidays=Sad Residents,What would you say

Exactly what I was going to say. Just being there, and letting them know that you truly care really does make a world of difference
