    1) Get Dr Laura's DVD course on greatnurses.com, and her review book: Critical Care Exam Review, go to amazon.com for that, cheaper than on her own website. Occasionally people do find her DVD...

Anyone else studying for CCRN exam?

I didn't use them at all for studying just before the exam, too many obscure, non CCRN questions, but useful, as you say, for other reasons. The Pacep site is so useful for hemodynamics...have you...

First day and STRUCK DUMB AN AMAZED!!!!!!

Just take it one day at a time...one chapter at a time (or one page), one skill at a time, one care plan, clinical etc (you get the idea). You will freak out if you try to comprehend it all at once....

    Any Suggestions?

I'm soooo sorry that all of this is happening to you. It sounds like such a brutal ordeal to live through. I haven't had experience with injury but have had some health issues related to migraines...

    Radio frequency ablation

I keep watching to see if anyone will respond to your question. So, I will answer with my limited experience. (This may or may not be representative of what is happening out there in the real...

Metoprolol and aflutter 40's-50's with BBB

Yes, that makes sense, I suppose it was worth the risk because they had the pacer in case it backfired (which it did) but it is always better to have the heart beating on its own in a SR with a...

    Pat on the back..

Way to go!! So often in nursing it is "no new is good news". Glad to hear that you are getting some good acknowledgment!!

    Insanity over Insulin!

First of all, I would relax. You are asking all the right questions and you WILL run into this again; people will become hypoglycemic. You handled it fine. There isn't a lot you can do, because...

Advice needed - withdrawing life support & how to deal

You are a human being and being a nurse means getting involved in the human experience, that is the way it should be. It is OK to have all the feelings that you will experience. Being a nurse does...

What to do you do if a pt has really high blood pressure

You are asking some really great questions for someone who is a new nurse!! The pressures you have from his admission would be considered his baseline. Also, by the type of medications that he is on,...

What to do you do if a pt has really high blood pressure

If indeed we are talking about a patient with pressure of 289/80, I would first of all let the house sup in on the issue. And then I would do a thorough assessment before I (absolutely) called the...

Metoprolol and aflutter 40's-50's with BBB

Phew, that sounds really suspicious to me...I would have given it with A LOT of trepidation. Perhaps it was meant to suppress any tachyarhythmias, but you would think that the overdrive pacing of the...

    Starting ICU Preceptorship---need advice

Wow! I am truly impressed by your enthusiasm! I would carry a note pad or paper in your pocket where you could jot things down that you wanted to look up later, or ask later. And, I would get one...

    Strange diagnosis

Yes it's true, some people are so unbelievably desperate that they would do anything to escape that desperation for awhile, even if they are not doing it consciously. People can honestly believe...

    Strange diagnosis

Yes, I worked on an epilepsy unit where often people had been treated for seizures for years and only when being continuously monitored with an EEG (with helmets, etc) and constant video monitoring...

What can you teach me today?

You are so welcome! Keep on asking! And it is OK if you find saving people's lives in a code situation exciting...don't beat yourself up for that (I've seen many a new nurse worry about that.) The...
