Why do they hire an LPN if it's just enrolling in the program, anybody can do it. I'm sending there has to be some clinical work involved. Is the SW supervising a certified Case Manager? I doubt it. It's a low cost program hiring the wrong people.

That I know, my question was because given the fact that I'm the only RN in the house, and my position as Supervisor doesn't allow me to "take" my break. Meaning, I need to be at all times available. As said by the administrator, " you need to make sure you take your break, it doesn't matter if it's in 15 minutes portions, but you have to take it. You can't leave the building though" So, that means I'm not really taking any time off. So, I think I should get paid for it. The problem, I think is not with me as part timer , but wilth the Full timers, because then, they should get overtime for the breaks, and that they don't want to pay. HI: I agree totally, in fact I'm unable to just take my break; the very same administrator told me that "Ihave to make sure I get the break, tit can be in 10 or 15 min period, but I have to take it, they can't pay for it, she said it's amatter of DOL" I think it's a lie. the problem is that they won't pay overtime to the full time supervisor, that would be the case if they'd pay the break. thank you

HI everyone : I just started as a nurse supervisor at a LTC facility. I was surprised when the administrator told me that my 30 min( lunch ) was not paid. Even I can't leave the building, because there's nobody else who I could leave in charge. So, basically I have to take my break in sets of 10 minutes or all together, I need to fifure it out myself. Isn't this illegal? Anybody going through the same? thank you

Really? report the nurse to the BON? Really? I think this is truly over reaction, not to mention that the husband that was present didn't complain. And the wife/mom wants to report fact she didn't actually see because she wasn't there. Really? Unbelievable!

Hi : In the facility were I worked we use to have report books in each unit, but in addition the Supervisor would record any relevant matter related to the general facility situation in another report book for the subsequent Supervisors.That would be,broken systems, a residents that should be specially checked for something, etc. That worked well, she would check each report book to make sure it was complete at the end of the shift

Hi: I'm very sorry for your loss, and unfortunately I know how it feels. As I read what yo wrote I revisit my Mom's passing, she was in a nursing home. She was terminally ill, but that day I worked at the Hospital willing to go to be with her after my shift.shortly before the shift ended they called me on the phone to let me know she had passed. I always think why I had to go to work and couldn't be with her instead. She passed 12 years ago, and I still miss her a lot, so don't feel sorry, and thanks for sharing, it tells me I'm not alone.

Hi: As I was reading your post it got me thinking tha so many times I've done crazy things for a job I love. But, there's always a but, what about your husband and marriage. would he support you? You're going to be tired and probably in a bad mood many times, you both need to think and talk about this plan.

Hi; In Uruguay the curricula goes from the normal human to each area such as pediatrics, mother and baby, adult, geriatrics, community, and the different altered functions in each period of life , and then different altered functions/areas such as psichiatric, neurology, nephrology, hemathology, oncology, Emergency situations,everrything. Always applying the nursing process assessment,diagnosis, care plan, evaluation. Also Administration of nursing services. for that purpose we support our learning process in various subjects, anatomy, phisiology,biochemics, chemistry, physics, pathology, pharmacology, sociology, filosophy,nursing theories, nutrition, health education (I'm sure I'm missing something) scientific Methodologyetc. All this throughout 4 years of full time study/practicum in hospital areas, communities, clinics, schools. and full time means from 7 AM to 5 PM Mon - Fr. It's practically impossible to think about working during these years. I thik it's not that different, is it?

HI I'm from URUGUAY, and I graduated 27 years ago. At the time the only Nursing School ( it's a 3million population country) was ruled by the Ministry of Health and by the University as well due to modifications made by the dictatorial military Goverment to the educational system. It's was a 4 year program with a BSN level.

You could certainly use it. It stuck to my memory since the course. It has been so long since I post this question that I couldn't remember what it was about. LOL. This site is incredible when you think about how long ago somebody post a question and stil could get feedback.

Hi everybody: maybe someone has experience with promethazine plain syrup prescribed for cough. The situation was that I saw one of my geriatric patients at home, 80 y.o. female with hx of CVA to the right side with imobility to the left side that transfers with human assistance to the chair and recliner,also has an indwelling Foley cath and wears diappers for bowel incontinence. The said pt had flu like symptoms for about a week, and the Md ordered promethazine plain syrup 1 tea spoon q 6 hours for cough. that called my attention. On the other side, as expected the lady was having trouble moving bowells. When I explained the family member that it was a side effect of the ' cough' syrup she told me well she's doing fine now so I think I could discontinue it as the MD told me to do. (apparently the MD didn't explained the side effects to the family member) Has anybody seen this prescription before? what do you think? Thank you

Hi : I was just passing by, and holy cow!!! What's this all about? I can't belive my eyes! I'm so sorry for you! But, anyway, I have no idea how you could do this, but my honest advice, is that you should immediately get out of this horrendous situation. You can't by no means work there, you should get a lawyer if you need. And that lady she knows nothing about nursing or HHA. God! I never in my life heard about something similar to this. and again I feel so sorry for you! Best of luck!!

Hi: I definitelly get the picture. What I would do is use the double pad and extra absobent diaper. But still I would make sure of covering the area with abundant skin protectant lotion, and avoid wrinkles to the linnen; at least if they need to lye wet for some time the skin would protected as much as it could be. This, and of course educate the family member if they provide some care; it should be adjusted to each case. Hope this helps. Faby

Hi again: It's not recomended for pressure ulcer prevention to use double pads, or diappers because that implies the patient isn't going to be turned and cared of he or she as requires Faby

This is a very good answer! Why is it that Nurses almost always get used to work understaffed? When I was a new grad I was told once "ther's always something to do in nursing", I didn't agree at the time, but I do agree now. that's the way it is
