  1. Inside a Surgical Device Kickback Scheme

This is a fascinating story about crooked staffers who knew how to game the system at a medical center and make a lot of money. http://www.outpatientsurgery.net/news/2011/10/21-Inside-a-Surgical-Device-Kickback-Scheme
  2. Etiquette in the OR?

As a patient, I found this article surprising, actually it's an editorial. Has anyone here experienced this kind of conduct in the operating room? Editor's Page: Sexual Predators in the OR > Outpatient Surgery Magazine > February, 2015
  3. Etiquette in the OR?

I'm curious. Isn't one of the reasons Versed is used so that the patient can't remember anything later?
  4. Wrong side/omitted procedure

To avoid delaying or cancelling the operation, could the patient correct the consent form themselves by scratching out and rewording it for accuracy, then initialing the change? Would that be legally acceptable?
  5. Nurses, Clients and Power

There's a discussion going on at a bioethics blog dealing with patient modesty. The discussion went a little offcourse with an interesting subtopic called "Nurses, Clients and Power". I wonder if you agree if the types of power listed are used by nur...

A nurse recalls her training 50 years ago. (rest of the story) http://www.pulsemagazine.org/Archive_Index.cfm?content_id=195
  7. 'Nurses Heal' commercials

I love the Johnson and Johnson "Campaign for Nursing's Future" commercials. These 2 are my favorites. 2PVeOq60GcA Pp-AMyiYbNU The nurses are real, the patients are actors.
  8. Should Doctors Have Guns?

The author, a doctor, makes the case that in our climate of daily random violence and desperate drug addicts, a doctor would be wise to have a gun in his office. He brings up the example of emergency rooms having metal detectors and bullet proof glas...

  11. Overheard "You're there to make money, not to talk," in clinical

As a patient who has had doctors start an appointment by hovering at the door, with one hand on the doorknob, I'm glad there is Dr. Google for backup.

  13. You Won't Believe What Sparked This OR Fire

cdgirl, and others, thanks for being such good (and brave) advocates. Any patient would be very lucky to have you take care of them.
  14. here is a doctor that truly values nurses and even blogs about it. he blogs as [color=#2361a1]doctor grumpy in the house. listening to nurses is key to being a good doctor (more) http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2010/06/listening-nurses-key-good-doctor....
  15. Student observers in the O.R...

Thanks for responding CDgirl. Can you enlighten me on something? How common is it for patients to put restrictions on the consent form. And would it be resented as meddling. I've read many threads here of difficulties dealing with ill-tempered surgeo...
  16. Student observers in the O.R...

As for explicit consent from patients allowing non-medical people in the OR, my hospital consent form reads "there may be people in training, or others, who will be in attendance or participating in your procedure...." very convenient wording to allo...

  19. Fictional-Hospital Scrubs for Real-Life Nurses

I took it as a tongue-in-cheek article, more amusing than critical.
  20. The 10 REAL Reasons Men Don't Go to the Doctor

I only put this in the male nursing forum because I didn't find any other forum that fit the subject matter. Plus I thought I'd get the demographic readers that could challenge or add to the list. Anyway, an outspoken female doctor lists the reasons:...

Oops. Sorry for the double thread. I should have done a better search before posting it.
  22. Doctors perform induction and then C/S on non-pregnant woman

This was previously posted in the Health and Medicine Forum. One reader was curious to hear what L & D nurses had to say about this news story. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Reprodu...ry?id=10262881

  24. The 10 REAL Reasons Men Don't Go to the Doctor

Women dominate nursing today because 98% of them are women. Maybe there should be an effort to recruit more men into nursing school. That might change the lopsided number. I can appreciate your modesty concern too, as I am a hospital patient (female)...
  25. The 10 REAL Reasons Men Don't Go to the Doctor

sven, I wonder if you post on Dr. Bernstein's blog which features many threads on patient modesty. I also have concerns about my modesty when I'm in the hospital and sympathise with your concerns. But one thing that bothered me with the comments on ...
