  1. Why Black Eyes?

Hello nurses. Recently a patient returned from the OR with black eyes following a procedure no where near the face. Don't want to give too much detail here you understand. Most of the bruising/bleeding was on the upper eyelids, and also bleeding ran ...
  2. tired of the abuse

We hear ya!!! Two guys were walking on the beach. One guy asks, "did you see that nurse that washed up on the shore?" The other guy exclaims, "no!, how'd you know it was a nurse?" He replied, "oh, that's easy...her bladder was full, her stomach was e...
  3. Best/ Worst Places to Work Near Punta Gorda.

I am thinking (dream stage right now) of possibly relocating to FL. What places are the best and the worst and why? Please be specific. Also, what's involved in getting Fl license? Thanks all.
  4. Prayer @ staff meeting

I once interviewed with a physician who told me he liked to start the day with a prayer, and asked me if I would be offended. My response was, "I won't be offended if you pray, if you won't be offended if I don't." Case closed. I worked for him and w...
  5. Best/ Worst Places to Work Near Punta Gorda.

Wow, some of the FL posts sound pretty bleak re pay/licensing fees etc. Anybody have any answers to my above post? Thanks.
  6. Why Black Eyes?

No to all of the above, and I have no idea what anesthesia thought, but other docs were surprised.
  7. My Heart is Broken

For me it's really very simple...do the right thing. You tried your very best to do it. She tried not at all. I so hope that the day I need it, I will have someone like you for my nurse. Bless you, and the very best in your career.
  8. Why Black Eyes?

Good grief, I just caught this latest post. Terrible! I guess the mystery of the black eyes in this case will remain a mystery.
  9. Why Black Eyes?

Oh my, thank you so much. I'm probably thinking too much pressure when tape applied and/or came off of thin and/or delicate skin. You know, horse hooves...NOT zebras! When I typed in periorbital bleeding with anesthesia, amyloidosis came up. That wou...
  10. Why Black Eyes?

Generally, which kind of tape is applied, who applies it and removes it, and at what point does the ET tube come out? Can someone describe for me? Thanks posters.
  11. Why Black Eyes?

Thanks for your replies. PT had immed reconstruction with implant using just skin flaps from own breast. I don't see a need for PT to be prone for this type, but maybe you can enlighten me? I haven't observed in OR since my student days. Also, is the...
  12. Why Black Eyes?

The procedure was simple mastectomy w/reconstruction, so I can't imagine that positioning had much to do with it? What exactly is done with the eyes in OR? Also, could it be from excessive gag/coughing reflex in recovery, trying to cough out the ET t...
  13. Why Black Eyes?

Hello everyone and thank you for your posts. No, the patient would not have been prone and the surgery was below the neck. Any other ideas? Is it OK to tell the procedure here?
  14. The roughest week ever

Do not quit! We have all been there, except maybe the driving up on the porch and almost killing your loved ones part, ha! Glad everyone is ok, and hopefully you're still engaged! You have made it so far, KEEP GOING! Best luck to you and your loved o...
  15. Welcome to the Stress Management Forum!

Hello and best wishes to all suffering from overdrive. My no cost stress busters are as follows: 1. Exercise! Never once have I finished my exercise and said, "I wish I hadn't done that." I always feel good about it. If you are overweight and/o...
  16. Law enforcement to nursing

Man, I can think of so many times in nursing I could have used a nurse with a cop's background! Instead, I always got the little security guards with white hair and bilateral hearing aids. I've been told I'm dangerous....just need to be armed! Best t...
  17. Teaching @ Brown Mackie

One final attempt on trying to get any updated info from anyone familiar with teaching @ Brown Mackie since my original thread last may '08. Are things any better there for instructors? If nobody can help, I'll probably just decline the interview, b...
  18. Teaching @ Brown Mackie

Hi all. I've been reading some negative posts about Brown Mackie. I'm wondering if anyone is teaching or has taught for them? I would be VERY interested in the scoop. They have contacted me re a possible teaching position. The salary is only approx. ...
  19. Anyone work for a verterans hospital?

I have a question re this thread, something I've always wondered. If you work for the VA, but you are not, and never have been a VET, do they provide treatment/hospitalization for you if it's required? Or does this question even make sense?
  20. Teaching @ Brown Mackie

Hello everyone. Recently Brown Mackie Indiana called me again re a full-time position. I am wondering if anyone has update on them, and if things are any better, or worse for new instructors? At least the person interviewing is the same one that w...
  21. microwave on psych unit

Yep, a patient accidently started a fire in the microwave by cooking a packaged vending machine hotdog too long. Smoke alarms went off, and mandatory fire department visit. The microwave was ruined. I always worried about the coffeepot too.

  24. Anyone wear the Masai Barefoot Technology shoes?

I had a good laugh about this thread, so wanted to post. My sis, who has always had trouble with her posture, bought a pair of these things. She WOULD NOT tell me how much she spent for them when I asked. Before I ever had a chance to see them, she d...
  25. Is it just me???

Am I crazy to think this should be done differently, or is this happening to others? I am a nurse with 26 years experience, but lately, I have been left wondering what in the world is going on in HR departments? I am currently looking for a job, an...
