  1. I'm in a pickle!

Isn't disability supplemental income designed for people who are unable to work?
  2. How strict is/was your nursing school concerning your appearance?

No drinking in uniform? So no post-clinical margaritas? No thanks.
  3. Developing Good Relationship with Death

Hello. I am a third-year BSN student and work as a Student Nurse Tech in a major teaching hospital. In the course of clinicals and in working I have directly encountered two patient deaths. In both instances, I reacted well and "kept my cool" durin...

  5. dispensing medications

Do you package/label it for the patient to take home? Or package/label it only to unpackage it at the bedside? From my understanding of regulations, I think there's a difference.
  6. Controversial Job Offer

Belamour616- I work in an abortion clinic as a nursing tech (I'm a junior in a BSN program). I've worked in two different clinics, for a total of about 4 years. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to hear from someone who's actually done the work. Mis...
  7. wrong route phenergan?

I don't think they're illegal. The women's health clinic where I work part-time still uses the needle systems. I hate those things! I was trained with completely needless systems.
  8. "New Nurses's Don't Know Anything."

Just my two cents, depending on his level of functioning, is he able to ask for pain meds? Also, they teach us in school that it is best to take pain meds before the pain gets severe...to "stay on top of it" if you will. Do you have rationale for it...
  9. Admissions to UMSL nursing school

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I'm in my second semester of the traditional program at UMSL, and my GPAs (especially science GPA) on admission were WAY lower than yours. Good luck!
  10. I got a job!At an abortion clinic?

I actually work in an abortion clinic, and I can tell you it's a VERY rewarding line of work. I agree with the poster who said to make sure the clinic has decent security. The gratitude the patients will show you is incredibly rewarding. I say go for...
  11. Which nursing skills do you dread?

Why do you dislike giving rho-gam?
  12. Best clinical experience pre-NP school

What do you think is the best area to gain clinical experience prior to applying to NP schools? Med-Surg? ED? ICU? others? '
  13. Best clinical experience pre-NP school

Actually trauma, what I want to do is, from what I gather, very similar to what you do. I'd very much like to work in a practice with MDs, working as a midlevel, seeing their patients in the hospital and the office. Is ED experience useful you thin...
  14. Hi all. I am a third year BSN student still covered under my parent's insurance. Since high school (3+ years ago) I have taken antidepressants, been prescribed the occasional benzo for anxiety, and sought psychotherapy off and on. My question is, o...
  15. Difference between CNM and NMW?

I'm researching grad programs and am looking at Vanderbilt in Nashville, and they call their midwifery program NMW (Nurse MidWife I'm guessing). How is this different from a CNM? Is NMW just a term for someone who has had the midwifery education bu...
  16. How to become a SANE??

Are there any male SANEs? This is something I am very interested in, but suspect there would be some obstacles in my way.
  17. a male midwife??? :S

I'm a male BSN student (starting clinicals in August of this year.) I work as an aide in abortion-care now (which is a very female dominated field) and have aspirations to work L&D and go to midwifery school. I anticipate some comments or quest...
  18. Different roles for CNS's??? Come on guys share what you do!

I'm so glad I found this post! I'm a 20 year old BSN Student. I'm very interested in grad school and the CNS profession, but it's hard to find information out there from from actual practicing CNSs. Any ideas on where I can find information on the ...
