  1. The Almighty HESI is nearing....

Good luck! Sounds like a good study plan! I also have HESI in November and need 850 to pass. We don't have any other HESIs in our program though. I would have liked to have had at least one practice HESI or maybe some at the end of each semester ...
  2. Clients? Are they no longer patients?

I'm not a fan either. It says "client" on a lot of my clinical paperwork and I constantly find myself changing it to "patient."
  3. The only time it was ever really mentioned in our program was during Foundations when they discussed our major roles as nurses. We were told that we will never be forced to assist with an abortion but there might be situations where we have to provi...
  4. Waiting Lists

Yikes! 3 years? I'd probably have just gone straight for my BSN if there was a 3 year wait at my community college. We don't really have an official waiting list here. They take 50 people each semester and as far as I know they just take the top 5...
  5. Why is LVN to RN a waste of time?

I think location is a big factor in whether or not it would be worth it. Here we don't have the certificate thing that you mentioned (not that I've ever heard of anyway). In my area any LPNs who want to do the LPN to RN bridge have to first take al...
  6. I'm not in NY but my Associate's program (including pre-reqs) takes 3 1/2 years. It took 3 full-time semesters to get though the pre-reqs and then it's 4 full-time semesters for the actual nursing program.
  7. Stethoscope and other accessories?

In my class most of us use clipboards that open up and hold stuff inside. They sell them at Walmart and usually have a calculator stuck to the top of them. We have to carry a clip board anyway and we don't really have anywhere that we can store any...
  8. a male midwife??? :S

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always told that the actual term "midwife" means "with women" - as in "the person who is with the woman during childbirth." The word "wife" in "midwife" refers to the woman giving birth, not the pers...
  9. My experience at clinicals!

Thanks for sharing! I start clinicals next week. I am sooooo nervous. I think if I can just make it through that first day I'll be okay. I hope, lol. Good luck next week!
  10. What are you wearing for Pinning?

We have to wear all white scrub tops and bottoms. Same for guys and girls. Kinda boring I guess, but they sure didn't leave any room for debate, lol.
  11. Question regarding the Hep B Vaccination

That seems pretty high. I'd check at your country health department clinic...I went to mine and it was $45 per injection. I go back for my second next week.
  12. Graduation was great!!!

Congrats on your achievement!! I think that they should have to retake the classes and attend the next graduation. I understand the concept behind letting them walk with their class, but the bottom line is, the other people walking actually passed t...
  13. Counting Down the Days...

I also bought my books today. Talk about sticker shock!! I needed like 13 books for 2 nursing classes, and then one book for Health Math and one for American National Government (that one sure looked puny next to the nursing books, lol). I came home ...
  14. Roll Call---How many start their RN this month!

*raises hand* Another August 20th here. Orientation is the 14th and 15th. I wish they would have had it sooner...I hate having to wait until then to get a lot of the info I need.
  15. Is everyone getting ready????

I'm also starting August 20th at 8am. I plan to stock up on some basic supplies this week (it's tax-free week here), but there are some things I won't be able to buy until after orientation in case my school requires us to have certain brands & s...
  16. Did NS make u put on weight?

I just started Weight Watchers a few weeks ago and I'm really hoping to be able to stick with it when I start the nursing program in 3 weeks. I downloaded a handy program to my PDA so I can easily keep track of what I eat, and I plan to pack my own ...
  17. name: camille school: gulf coast comm. college program: adn what area of interest at this time: ob/labor & delivery. i plan to go on to become a midwife. biggest fear: i start the program in a few weeks so right now i'm terrified of just about ...
  18. PDA in nursing school

I feel your pain on that one, lol.
  19. PDA in nursing school

I just got a Palm TX and put a couple free programs on it for now (epocrates & Archimedes). I start the nursing program Aug. 20th so I haven't really used any of the programs yet other than just looking around and trying to see how they work. I h...
  20. Where is your favorite place to study?

I do most of my studying in my bedroom. I rarely study outside of my home. I don't do well with distractions at coffee shops & such. Plus my school is about 45 minutes away from my house so by the time I'm done with my classes I really need to...
  21. I remember having a nursing school dream a couple weeks ago but I don't remember the details. I'm surprised I'm not having them every night. I start on August 20th and I am terrified!
  22. Clinical uniform for school

They really said no thongs? Why is it any of their business what sort of underwear one prefers? I'm curious as to how they might go about enforcing such a rule, lol.
  23. Clinical uniform for school

Our uniform is a white scrub top and royal blue scrub pants...lots of pockets on both which I'm sure will come in handy. We have to sew a patch on our left sleeve. It's not so bad looking as far as scrubs/uniforms go. Could have been much worse. ...
  24. How long did it take for you to get your RN?...

It took 3 full semesters to do my pre-reqs (16 classes) and it will be 4 semesters for the nursing program, so 3 1/2 years total for my ADN. Then I plan to take the 10 classes I'll need for my AA so I can get into a university. After that I'll work ...
  25. So . . .is nursing your final stop?

I want to be a midwife but I need to start working as soon as possible so I'm taking baby steps. My 10-year plan looks something like this: Finish ASN Work at hospital as RN Work part-time towards my BSN Get my MSN/become CNM Let's just hope I can s...
