Thank you for replying ashemson, it means alot to me. Good luck to you too. What are you studying? I'm an LPN studying for RN, this summer I have generals, all classes that I have taken but WAY too long ago to count for anything:)
I'm a newbie & having a great time, even when I don't reply I enjoy all the discussions. Wish I had known of this site before. I just feel like I'm in a big room full of friends & co-workers, thanks you wonderful nurses:cool:

I agree. They kill us with paperwork & we need to be with patients. I'm sorry, I don't think there is a good answer to this dilemma, or a change anytime soon. Keep the faith, we are needed and valued, somewhere....:)
Dear ashemson: & others.... I'm new here too & I am so sorry if you thought me rude, I didn't mean to be, I am rather a smart*** but I'm honestly not a mean person. I honestly didn't mean anything bad by it. When I started school Med Term was...
'k, I coud tell you a long story here, but it would bore everyone but me. Nursing is like any other caregiver position, either they're sweet or *****y, no happy medium, but then again I had a bad experience.
For us it goes by the work week, 40 or over. OT can only be approved by the DON. My best friend from high school works (or did, she's nurse mgr. now) 3 12- hour shifts a week, made her full-time.And we don't get double, time & 1/2.
To me it's not a question, at work I am responsible for people's lives, & I do my level best to care for them. What I do in my rare time off is my business. If a nurse is stupid enough to work impaired he or she deserves the max for punishment, l...
Geez, I've wanted to be a nurse since I was a little kid (4)_ but my first job sucked, bad, this was in the 80's when everyone was in restraints. I was a CNA, hated it, went back to food & bar, then did various secretarial & helper jobs, East...

I was lucky enough to be chosen by my class to speak for all of us at graduation, with another classmate, thank goodness. We got together and made a speech out of what nursing meant to us and had a few jokes about underpay & low glamour, it work...
This has been a fun read! I guess I'm lucky, I was already with my last husband when I went back to school. He was & is very supportive, so are my kids, his daughter too for that matter. I was awfully proud of myself when I graduated, but he thre...
I agree & disagree with so many of you! A nurse HAS to be able to peform her or his job, hopefully without missing anything. It is our JOB to care for people unable to care for themselves. We get paid to do this, therefore we should do our level ...
I'm a "new" nurse, been a nurse for 10 mos, I'm an LPN going to school for RN, I'm also 33 with 2 kids. There are some nurses who "eat their young" but I have had the same experiences in bartending & office work. There are also some WONDERFUL hel...

I think a competent nurse is a competent nurse & it does not matter what her degree is, when I was a student I had two instructors that were BSN's & if my family was involved in their hospital I would leave, they were that clueless. The degre...
