  4. reporting med errors

I never made a medication error and hope will never make one. I have been a nurse for 3 years now and double checking myself or checking with another nurse when needed has helped a lot. I would report an error if I ever make one and I would look for...
  5. I like that joke! I will use it with my patients now that I know it...he he. I usually try and use humor, see how the patient responds, then use it some more. Most of the patients enjoy it and I love seeing a smile on their faces.
  6. I am an RN. Worst place to work in for me would be ICU because I feel the "air smells like death there"...so many critically ill patients and so few that make it only to return a month later and die. The best place would be either L&D or postpart...
  7. Nurses under 30, whats important to you?

I have to agree with RNvampire on this. It would also be important to have nice coworkers and great benefits since I am not married yet and I depend on my own health insurence.
  8. What gift to buy for a new nurse?

It depends how much money you are willing to spend...I would think a PDA would be nice but is expensive...you can also get him a new drug book -- that should be cheaper.
  9. Homan's Sign: Useful or Useless? What's your opinion?

I also do it for documentation purposes but I find it unreliable. I agree to other people who posted and said that other signs such as warmth, pain, tenderdness are more reliable.

I don't belong to any association right now. I think I might in the future, especially if I decide to continue my education and pursue a Master's degree.
  11. How often do you take a break?

I try and take a break every 5 hours. Nurses don't like other nurses who take breaks...if you smoke and you do take a break, the non-smokers hate your guts and they complain about it constantly...I would suggest non-smokers go take their breaks inste...
  12. How did you find your first nursing job?

I did it the old fashion way...applied, went to interviews, waited...and finally got the job. I finished school in a different state then the one I permanently live in, therefore I could not accept offers while I was still in school (since the offers...

according to wikipedia, a disease is defined as the following: "any abnormal condition of the body or mind that causes discomfort, dysfunction, or distress to the person affected or those in contact with the person. sometimes the term is used broadly...
  14. Would you let your hospital treat your loved one?

I would have no problem with it, the hospital has excellent staff and I trust them to do the best job on a loved one or friend.
  15. I so agree with your post! I learned to hate team or group projects because of it! I'm glad I'm out of school!
  16. I had a patient call her vagina a beaver...
  17. I do and I have no problem with it. I of course tell my patients about the hazards of smoking and I give them the hospital brochure about quitting the habit...
  18. Poll: Male Nurses in the OB? Ok or No Way???

I have absolutely no problem with having male nurses in the OB department (L&D included). We have OBGYN male doctors and there is no problem with that, is there?
  19. How opposite are you and your mate?

My boyfriend and I are quite alike...we have the same goals in life, enjoy playing video games together, watching movies, and even being lazy together...there are also diffrences -- he likes politics and chess, I could not care less (except for votin...
  20. What is the hardest thing about Nursing school?

The hardest classes in Nursing School for me were Patho and Acute. A lot of details/information to remember in both of them and so little time... I was studying all the time and getting very little sleep. There was no other way if you wanted to do we...
  21. How many Pt do you take care of?

I work med-surg hospital NJ, day shift 1 to 6 ratio, night shift 1 to 8 sometimes more.
  22. Married / engaged nurses...

I do not wear my engagement ring at the hospital I work at and if I was married, I would not wear my wedding band either. I think it is safer from an infection control point of view...plus, I would have to take them out every time I got home and make...
  23. Do you like day or night shift better and why?

I love night shift because most of the time everything is slower. I am not a person that seeks chaos and therefore I look for environments that are quiter and suit me better. For some nurses night shift is just boring and they hate it. For me it mean...
  24. Nursing and tattoos

I don't have any tatoos. I don't mind seeing them on other people though...some of them are pretty, some interesting...some funny. I think I am not getting one just because I would probably get bored of it after a while...also thinking that if I put ...
  25. Who votes?
