  1. I hate to break the bad news but I talked to Stacey whom I believe is another graduate nursing advisor like Alison, and she told me that the University has made decision to cancel all the FNP, ANP and Mental Health NP programs. Sorry guys
  2. I had the same response from Alison too. It seems like she tells everyone the same thing. Any more updates? It's July 19th!!!
  3. Gosh, that is really getting annoying! I cannot believe we have to wait for so long! Why can't they make the decision already? I don't mind if we have to go through CCPE, as long as I get into the program!
  4. OH MY GOD. I'm sorry to hear that. I am waiting VERY patiently too. Did she email you randomly or did you ask her via email?
  5. So I emailed Alison, again, for the 100th time, regarding the acceptance to CSULB MSN program. She told me that the University is still making decision and they will decide everything by the middle of June. If any of you receive any acceptance ...
  6. waiting out retrogression - will this work??

You mentioned that you love being a staff nurse, why not go for CNS route? You can still be a staff nurse and have a higher degree at the same time. Best of luck to you.
  7. I got accepted to the AGNP program. Alison told me that they accepted 29 students for the program. There were a total of 200 students got accepted for the various Master programs. But that is not finalized yet. Due to the state budget cut, the final ...
  8. CRRN exam

Ludoo, what do you think of the pearlsreview? Does it really help you?
  9. nursing care plan for HYPOKALEMIA plsss.

Yes, for clarification too, if it's an emergency, and you are unable to get a verbal/written order from a physician for whatever reason, then it's OK to initiate such orders. That's what the hospital emergency protocols are for. If it's not emergency...
  10. nursing care plan for HYPOKALEMIA plsss.

Yes, kidney is one of them. Think of how K works, where are they most abundant, and how do they get excreted. Hypokalemia could happen if: 1) Decrease K intake 2) Increase K excretion via kidneys and GI tract. Example would be diuretics such as Lasix...
  11. nursing care plan for HYPOKALEMIA plsss.

In our facility, we have emergency protocol for hypokalemic pts without doctor's order. The K must be lower than 3.2 mEq with association with new onset or symptomatic PVC or V tach. Nurses can administer KCL 20 mEq in 50 cc D5W over 1 hour via centr...
  12. Differential Diagnosis Book

Does anyone know a good one for NP student? Someone recommended "Differential Diagnosis Pocket: Clinical Reference Guide" by Sailer. Thanks!
  13. Doctors are Bullies

Does anyone know any good books how to deal with difficult doctors? I did not experience dealing with one since I started the new grad program, but yesterday, one of the doctors who is well known for being rude to nurses on our floor came to visit my...
  14. f1 students for AA degree

I agree with LE...the waiting is really no fun. I've seen some people went for RT instead because they were fed up of waiting. But I would suggest maybe taking other elective nursing courses or Spanish class. Try to apply to as many schools as possib...
  15. H1B

You need to find a hospital that is willing to petition you for H1b after your BSN. At the meantime, I would find a lawyer to file for I-140 although the retrogression is still an on-going thing. If worse comes to worst, you could not get sponsored f...
  16. Are NP's eligible for H1b?

Yes, go for EB2 if possible...and if not, no harm trying H1B. Either one will allow you to extend your stay here in the US. I have known two new NP's got their job offers and on their way to sponsorships in SoCal. Good luck!!!
  17. Try summer internships...some hospitals might have that for the summer sessions. Ask around and find out. It's a great way to gain experience too.
  18. College of the Canyons

I need help! I just got accepted to COC for the new collaborative program (anyone heard of that?), but I live close by to Los Angeles Valley College and I'm still waiting for LAVC to reply me! Should I wait, or should I go ahead with COC? I'm an inte...
  19. Learning rhythms

Sinus tach has P waves, hence the word sinus, and PR intervals are within normal limit. Atrial flutter does not have P wave but instead has saw-toothed rhythm before QRS.
  20. searching for hospitals which offer H1B nurse sponsorship

I agree with both ghillbert and Kosmonavt. The most important thing to do now is to get as much training and as many certifications/educations as possible (whether is getting the CCRN or WOCN). Pursuing a BSN is a great way to start, but you must als...
  21. Best Way to Learn Spanish?

Hi, I work in a hospital that has many Spanish speaking pts. Does anyone know the best way to learn Spanish? I don't need to master the whole Spanish language...I just need to be able to communicate with my pts while caring for them. Does anyone know...
  22. Best Way to Learn Spanish?

I would love to go to Florida...for vacation! And I'm already in Cali.
  23. CVN certification....

Does anyone know what are some good cardiac books to study for CVN 1?
  24. BP meds and parameters

Digoxin...make sure pt's apical pulse is above 60. I would also check K level and dig level to make sure they are WNL. I would hold BP meds if pt's sBP I would check pt's HR too before giving any beta blockers as they drop the HR really fast.
  25. Rapid Afib

Thanks Angie for that clear explanation. We had a pt from who recently transferred from oncology unit to our tele unit because of A fib as well. Her HR was around 150's when we received her from previous shift. MD put her on Cardizem drip of 5 mg/hr...
