  2. Letter to the Offended

  4. Nurses Say the Darnedest Things!

I'm thinking BSE = baseline swallowing eval, since it's attached to ST................ MMSE has been clarified earlier in the thread:)
  5. Patient doesn't know he's terminal

I remember when it was also thought that the woman who had delivered a stillborn would ' do better' if she never saw or held the baby. That also was a 'norm' back then which was not beneficial to the patient.... Sometimes progress is a good thing and...
  6. My sincere empathy to both of you, but want to reassure you that this is NOT a new situation. I graduated in 81, my family wanted to throw a party and I wouldn't let them send invitations until I was absolutely positive and had confirmation in hand t...

  10. Learn To Say It Correctly!!

Have you heard people pronounce ask or asked as AX or AXED? ( as in: I axed him a question.)
  11. This isn't an earthshaking or vitally important nursing question but I'm curious to know if I'm being a bit overboard in this! Saturday morning I went to the bakery to get my weekend supply of danish and the clerk grabbed each one with a piece of pap...
  12. A question about danish , paper, and germs...

Hey, thanks for your interesting points of view! I did enjoy the danish and haven't died yet, so I guess it worked out alright................ might have been the massive doses of vanc I took after I left the bakery:smokin: Just wondered what y' all...
  13. What's the weirdest baby name?

Are we in some wierd repeating time warp here? This thread started in April, 2002, and since then La-a, abcd, and of course the jello kids have appeared at least weekly. Since everyone *knows* that these are actual babies they must be on the way to ...
  14. Have we sunken so low? Would you?

To previous poster ! The main concern seems to be about breast augmentation , but you know, there are lots of other procedures to be had. I think much more kindly about such things at my age now than I did when I was younger and everything was in it'...
  15. Is Nursing School Like Joining A Sorority?

Sorority life in college was heaven, nursing school was hell! The first day in nursing class began with the instructor telling us "Look to your right and then to your left. One of the three of you won't last the semester." Hardly a bond-building tho...
  16. Death....by cheese

Hmmm.... I thought it was CHEESEburger in paradise, not CHEESE burger TO paradise. Maybe Buffett knew something we didn't:coollook:
  17. Or what about the people who make a word.... any word... plural by using an apostrophy and s? (dish's, scope's, etc.) I see that all the time and everywhere and it makes me crazy!
  18. Nothing like a good kick in the face

Oh, I have to reply to this one!! The funniest thing that ever happened to me as an IV nurse was when I went to start an IV on a teeny tiny little old lady. I explained carefully what I was going to do and why, and how we were going to make it as ge...
  19. One of my favorite mantras: I'm a nurse, you can't scare ME!
  20. Charting Bloopers

The term 'pleasantly confused' has been in use for ages and means exactly what you describe. The patient is not distressed, fearful, or hostile in regards to their confused status. It's not a diagnosis, just a description of current state of mind.
  21. What's the weirdest baby name?

Just to fill in the blank, Scout was a character in " To Kill a Mockingbird" Full story on the New Zealand case from MSNBC: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25827708/ Poor little kid!!!!
  22. "And it's all going to be your fault"

Enjoy that, but....and here comes old killjoy now.......be aware that this can also be a form of manipulation. In your newfound position of " their best and favorite" nurse, you will certainly want to keep them happy, and may find yourself devoting m...
  23. is this nursing to you?

You need not be a martyr to be a nurse! Enjoy your good fortune at finding a position that doesn't threaten your health and gives you some perks besides! And if you really miss the direct patient care, there are a lot of agencies that could use some ...
  24. Migraines....Anyone else have 'em?

I haven't had one for 25 years, since my TAH/BSO also! The 'cure' was a little rough but it stopped a life changing/ruining history of migraine. Funny, just thinking of migraine, even after all this time, brings a memory of fear back to me. No one wh...
