I NEVER did ICU...went to ER after being float nurse just about every where else in the hospital......telemetry a big plus. I feel if you have a desire to do ER nursing then you will make it......If you are not sure about it.........you might make it...

Like you said...12 hours makes a 3 day week.....the thought of going in on that forth day is a KILLER for me. By the end of 8 hours I am "on a roll"...might as well stay and keep on rolling.

In our ED we usually wait 15-20 min to check for allergic reaction...of course no one should leave after getting a narcotic without a ride home.

We use students (nursing,medical,emt) in our ED as vollunteers...... they help transport, run errands, make up stretchers.....they are a great help. To bad you don't live in MASS.

We do not use body bags in the ED I work in just "tag" 'em ......cover witha sheet...and bring to the morgue.

I work in a union hospital. Work 12 hour shifts 7p-7a , get paid time and a half after 12.....or after 40. Get $2.75/hr shift diff and another $1.00 weekend diff. When picking up time...I like to tack an extra 4 hours on to my 12 and get the OT that ...
