  1. Clot Busters

Hi all, Just interested what thrombolytics you people are using? I'm in a rural area, 3 hours away from PTCA etc, so of course our first line is thrombolysis. We use Streptokinase (unless had before) or rpa (just changed from tpa). Are we years ...
  2. Oooohhhh, Now I feel cosmopoliten, do you ALL wear scrubs?

I think you're OK too britstudent. From one in the colonies, I think it is funny too.
  3. Term Bub with extensive cerebral bleed

Ah as I said it certainly isn't my area of expertise. I was thinking it was along the lines of purely palliative care, in light of the withdrawal of treatment. Thanks for explaining NicuGal. So tragic...thoughts for the little soul, her family and al...
  4. Lusting after a doctor

    Naw, check the date.
  5. Term Bub with extensive cerebral bleed

RN from OZ hugs to you. I am not experienced in NICU and can not offer expert advice by any means. I can understand this would be very difficult for you all. I don't know what is usual in a situation like this, but I see no reason why they could not ...
  6. Grammie dx'd recurrent BRCA today, need advice...

I think a PCA with a continous background infusion and prn demand doses would be the way to go. We have 2 different PCA sets here...one just has the demand button and the other is a pump which has the demand buttton and you can also set a background ...
  7. Oooohhhh, Now I feel cosmopoliten, do you ALL wear scrubs?

Not sure of an official "ban" but it has been common practice here for many years not to use asprin in children under 12.
  8. Oooohhhh, Now I feel cosmopoliten, do you ALL wear scrubs?

Yep, theatre is the OR, that's why they have to wear the scrubs. Supplied by the hospital, you change when you get to work. Working in "nornal" clothes is fine by me...I guess whatever you are used to. No we don't wear caps here either anymore. Used ...
  9. Oooohhhh, Now I feel cosmopoliten, do you ALL wear scrubs?

Hi from the colonies:chuckle (Sorry my humour!) :imbar We don't commonly wear scrubs here either. The only place scrubs are worn are in theatre or in an infectious diseases unit. We all wear uniforms set by the employer/facility. Years ago it te...
  10. pt. stroking out nurses do nothing

  11. pt. stroking out nurses do nothing

OK then calderone76, you sound very sure that the correct treatment was not given to your patient. What do you think should have been done...what do you think the MD would have ordered when notified?
  12. nurs4kids you are right to be concerned. It sounds really dangerous to me to be nursing these patients on the same floor with the same staff caring for them. Where I work all the super bug patients are nursed on the Infectious Diseases unit. I have w...
  13. pt. stroking out nurses do nothing

Ah yes calderone76, but for us to make judgements on colleagues without knowing all the facts is unprofesssional also. Besides I hardly think that telling us a little about yourself re your nursing experience is breaking any confidentiality.
  14. pt. stroking out nurses do nothing

Bob and Dennie, you read my mind. I could say a lot about CVA treatment but am hesitant to do so without knowing more. calderone76, perhaps you could tell us a little more about yourself first. You say this was your patient? Are you a nurse?
  15. Maternal death.....

We had a maternal death a few years ago at our rural hospital...very very tragic. It was during a caesar and was due to an anaphylaxsis. Mum coded but they got bub out in time.
  16. New Baby!!!

Welcome to the world Hannah Elise. Congrats to you and your family Lee:)
  17. What Do You Want To Hear When Receiving Report?

Great thread...very interesting. I always find out from the oncoming staff if they know the patients. If so, then they don't need all the history, no point in going all thru it again. Any new admissions since their shift, I give a brief history on. T...
  18. I got myself in a sort of mess....

3rdShiftGuy, it's sexual harrassment. I get the impression from reading your posts for a while now, that you are a very compassionate, tolerant and non-judgemental kinda guy. If it is bothering you it must be pretty bad I am thinking. My thinking is...

Woweeeeeeee CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am so pleased for you nightingale:)
  20. Do Agencies Hire New Grads?

Just speaking my opinion here...not sure how it goes over there. I think it would be very hard to do agency as a new grad. I have just done some agency work and have now switched to a float pool one. It is hard enough for me...20 years of experienc...

  24. Disaster!!! Bad order

You did OK Bambi, you were just the victim of poor communication by the sounds of it. Oramar, I have been nursing 20 years and have always taken out staples/sutures. In fact, I have NEVER seen a doctor ever do it. Usual practice, like WashYaHands sai...
