  1. WGU RN-BSN in 6 months??

What kind of algebra questions were on the exam (how involved?)
  2. WGU RN-BSN in 6 months??

How is the entrance exam? I resent having to take the exam since I have bachelors in another field and WGU is the only school requiring one. If the school is doable in a short time it may be worth taking the exam (been years since I took math).
  3. so i called in sick today...

You should discuss the matter with a lawyer if you are in fact pregnant. Unless you have some kind of history or you work in a very small setting you have recourse if you have in fact been fired.
  4. A medical step-down probably has the most diverse patient population.
  5. O2 Sat 88%-90%, MD no action, opinions.

As others have mentioned COPDers need their hypoxic drive and many live at a certain level of sat, and pCO2 that would normally be unacceptable. MDs often order to maintain sats between 88% and 92%, although I have seen orders to maintain greater tha...
  6. Identifying yourself as an RN when flying commercial

You are not under any obligation to render aid, very few states impose an affirmative duty to do so outside of your work environment. As an RN, or physician for that matter, you are not under an obligation to render assistance. If an emergency did co...
  7. Air in IV lines/syringes

Our work Claven said that the whole line test was done on dogs. I asked a pulmonologist who said that sounded about right though. I still try to get all the bubbles I can out though.
  8. You can't really generalize. In the area where I work there is a large discrepancy in pay depending on where you work. The only gauge there seems to be is acuity, but that doesn't really explain.
  9. Is it bad to retract your job offer?

I was in the same position. If you get both positions take the job that will make you the happiest in the long run. No one is going to hold it against you. Like the other posters said, don't do anything until you have the firm offer. Good luck!
  10. Overtime Pay for Change of Shift Report

1/2 hour gets taken out for lunch in most places.
  11. what is an okay GPA to put on your resume?

Don't. GPA's are not usually put on resumes anymore, check out a resume book.
  12. Goofy call bell requests

"rub my bunions" -seriously! "can you stir my coffee" -p A&Ox3, full use of all extremities. best one ever- "pick my nose"
  13. Daily assignments -- how are they made?

I have to agree with the other posters. Assignments are not easy to make. No one is ever going to be happy. Acuity has to be taken into account as well the experience of the nurses on the floor (mainly if there are floats or newbies). Charge nurses g...
  14. Telemetry, Step Down?

As the previous poster said, step-downs vary. My floor is a step-down for the ICUs in a trauma center. Generally the patient's are not stable enough to be on a regular floor, or may be stable enough, but the docs want closer monitoring. We get them a...
  15. We had a couple of female students we studied with who were very modest in the beginning. By the end of the first couple weeks of clinical they had become part of the reason the buzz in the campus caf was "don't eat near the Nursing Students" :chuckl...
  16. First patient complaint ever. Frustrated.

You can't help the crazies. It will not be your last patient complaint even if you are the best Nurse in the world. Remember that people are people with all the quirks that come with it.
  17. Most of us appreciate what you are going through, we've all been on both sides. When you take report understand that the Nurses need to communicate with each other. Occasionally we will not be able to wait for you as the outgoing Nurse has to get hom...
  18. I feel so stupid. What should I have done?

UTIs = Sepsis if not treated properly. You did the right thing.
  19. Nursing Error

Don't beat yourself up. If you've done everything the way you learned it, what can you change? Trauma happens when you insert a foley, it's a risk of the procedure as most others have said. Best advice I can give is go slowly.
  20. Health Care pay decrease with new health care plan?

Doctors and admin. will probably make less under the plan (newly hired admins, older ones probably freeze). We just may not see substantial raises.
  21. Who HATES the term MURSE?

Never heard it used before, doesn't really make sense to me, would a female be a furse?
  22. respiratory assessment

Accessory muscle use is always abnormal, but as the previous poster said there are situations where abnormal breathing is expected. This would be along the lines of a COPD patient "living" with a pCO2 in the 60s.
  23. Finally got it!!!

Congratulations, IV starts are a skill.Like any skill they need practice, and everyone misses sometimes. Keep sticking them and you'll be a pro!
  24. Do you wear rings on your fingers to work?

I wear my wedding band at work, but rinse under it frequently. To me it is not just another piece of jewelry, but I can see where someone would be wary of germs. I also wipe it with the antiseptic wipe before I leave work.
  25. male nursing salaries

I'm not sure about MA, but where I work in NJ starting is around $31.00/hr days. I know in the Philly area the salary is a few $$ lower.
