  1. Not what I expected

Never heard of a lazy nurse being a good nurse. Case management is stressful. Those nurses who work 3 years and go into case management or become nurse practitioners don't really k kW much or have experienced much...I find that they need at least 8 y...
  2. Interesting post. I was accused of hitting another nurse in a patient's room in front of a patient. This came from a new nurse who was put in a charge nurse position to visa around those of us who had 20 plus years experience...thus meaning she did n...
  3. Why don't you just read the chart?

My hospital has the ER nurse, who has been caring for the patient, to bring the patient to whatever unit, the ER nurse has a report sheet(approved by the hospital) that is brought with the patient. Any questions can be asked and answered. There is no...
  4. Should I leave this racist town?

Leave and find a job where you feel comfortable. I have been a nurse for many years and have been through racism(only white nurse in a hospital with predominantly black nurses), sexism(doctors, male nurses, and male patient putting their hands on my ...
  5. University of Phoenix CEO quits

I have advanced without any issues as well as many nurses who have UOP degrees...so your post is moot...apparently, you have not read all the posts on this thread because other online programs were mentioned...I am still waiting for your post regardi...
  6. University of Phoenix CEO quits

I obtained my MSN, which was my goal. Don't think I will pursue a doctorate. I have seen the online MSN nurse practitioner programs. Not sure I like them. Seems like the clinical aspect is lacking. The NPs from these programs seem to lack skills and ...
  7. University of Phoenix CEO quits

Agreed....any other programs that you feel do that other than UOP? I would like to know.
  8. University of Phoenix CEO quits

Your posts are interesting. I got my BSN from UOP years ago. Why? Because I lived in a rural area and the local nursing schools lost their accreditation in their undergraduate programs and graduate programs. The cost was about the same. I also got my ...
  9. Why did you retire or become inactive?

I quit nursing for five years to care for my parents. During that process, I became ill myself, but soldiered on caring for them and for myself. I finally decided to go back to nursing. I finished by BSN and did a refresher course, which included all...
  10. Got No Job? Come be an RN !

Hey Katie5...madwife's post is dead on.....she must have hit a nerve....for those of who have a passion for nursing we resent and detest people who think two years is a LONG TIME to work to get a nursing degree to make a quick buck...nursing schools ...
  11. "Nurses Are So Mean"

I'm one of those older nurses you refer to in your post. I don't really care about your BSN, your ADN....when you hit the door as a new nurse...young or old...I want some respect. Your post, in my opinion seems to lack respect in addressing us "older...
  12. "Nurses Are So Mean"

I agree with your comment about being mean being consistent. I work with two nurses in my new position that are just mean. They say they know they are that way and they think it is okay. So, since management does not seem to want to deal with them......
  13. "Nurses Are So Mean"

In my new position( been here 5 months) in new facility(to me,...experienced nurseof over 20 years here), there is no partnership...it is a competition....don't know why....when I have patients who are not fairing well...it's just me...when they c...
  14. Had an incident where a family member came through the ER went up to a unit and shot and killed two people...this was about a year and a half ago..the family member was upset because his mom had died years ago...he shot two people he did not know.......
  15. This is the problem I have with older ladies wanting to go back to nursing school...they don't have a concept of reality...Nursing school is not reality...where are the posts about the stay at home moms who went back to school, passed boards, became ...
  16. Funny doctor orders

Last week saw an order that read, "Daily weights...where are the daily weights?" Interesting...then my doctor boyfriend wrote an order that said, "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, GIVE ANTIBIOTIC TO PATIENT RIGHT NOW!" A couple of interesting orders.
  17. Another nurse bites the dust due to facebook

Read most of the posts. I agree that this nurse should not have posted that message. I think firing is appropriate. That being written, what is too stop an employer from firing someone who posts certain beliefs, political opinions, etc...these things...
  18. What is your opinion on this matter?

I don't like taking money from the poor either. You are a very ethical person for even wanting to take on this fight and the fact that you care is huge. Not many people want to fight "city hall" nor do that want to fight for the underdog or the poor....
  19. Nurses Get No Respect

I see alot of posts about flood nursing but critical care nursing has its issues. Staffing is not as it should be....no disrespect meant when I type this...but I can wing it with caring for floor patients than unit patients....unit patients are sicke...
  20. New grad starting on Neuro-tele unit... nervous!

Just remember that no question is a stupid question. Neuro patients sometimes have very subtle changes...and those subtle changes can be a big deal....so don't be afraid to let your charge nurse and the docs know these things....grown some thick skin...
  21. Are nurse's and physician's colleagues?

Some docs have been colleagues and some have not. Just depends on the doc. Most of them value my nursing opinion and very few of them have actually tried to throw me under the bus....so I think the "nurses are handmaidens" thing is not as prevalent a...
  22. Charting

Interesting post. I actually cared for a patient recently who went blind during her admission. She was told she would be going blind over time about a month before her admission, but was unable to tell the nurses and doctors on her admission about th...
  23. UHGGGG!!!! DOCTORS!!!

Agree with Tyvin to a point...but remember culture is at play here...the culture of using abbreviations and the culture of nurses being like secretaries...also if nurses try to correct docs about this type of thing some fo them get mad...the culture ...
  24. Doctor's sharps!

I agree with with pedicurn....docs need to dispose of their own sharps. Some hospitals actually have that written in black and white.
  25. I am an American.

I have had good and bad experiences with these types of doctors. Does this doctor probably care for his patients or is he mad because he does not know how to care for his patients and the nurses suggest things because he is not doing his job. Just so...
