  1. Thanks for everyone's input!
  2. The preceptor wasn't in overtime, had no complaints of being sick, and it was not necessarily her "turn." I am more than aware of these variables; my concern more lies with that the new preceptor only had a year of experience and was from the float pool for a specialized unit. Honestly I'd never leave someone I was training unless something was happening with my family.
  3. No not disgruntled, I've been a nurse elsewhere and completely understand how busy floors get. I'm more concerned with how there were three other nurses that could have gone home but the charge picked my preceptor. I was never complaining and told backhandedly to be flexible. To be honest just 'not wanting to be there' is not a good reason. The new preceptor was from the float pool which to me did not make sense because our floor is IMC and the floats don't take IMC patients. I'm a big fan of doing what makes the most sense and this didn't. Probably not worth "escalating" as some have said, but there's nothing wrong with asking what others think.
  4. Hey everybody! Question about preceptors and staffing. I'm a nurse that just started orienting on an IMC unit. Today the staffing grid called for at least two nurses to go home, and somehow my preceptor was the first one to be able to go home. I got a new preceptor, but I am wondering if anyone else would be okay going home early when they had an orientee? It didn't seem right to me because I was the one who mainly took care of the patients and I felt stranded. I also couldn't talk to the charge nurse about it because she hadn't asked me about it, told me to "just be flexible" and then let my preceptor go. What do you think? Should I talk to my manager because it made me uncomfortable or should I let it go?
  5. You are very welcome, Meredith. So am I. Yes, I did complete all of my pre-reqs as of last Fall semester. My overall GPA is 3.2. Hopefully, that will get by me to be accepted into the Nursing program. Which teacher are taking for Micro? Eventually, they will roll in the Nursing program because there is tons of students applying for the program and very competitive.
  6. Hello Meredith, I have applied to SPC Nursing program at the beginning of this month. I'm crossing my fingers as well that I get in but if I don't, I have another alternative career choice to pursue. That career choice is Histotechnologist. I just need to complete four more science classes by next Spring and then, apply for the Histotech program at Florida State College of Jacksonville.
  7. Just got my acceptance email as well! Congratulations all! I will be at the Shreveport clinical site. I’m having difficulty finding the group on Facebook though. Any insight?
  8. I have also applied to the program. Has anyone heard any news about interviews for the Jan. 11 application deadline?
  9. If you read through various threads you will find your stats and experience on par above and below some applicants. Hard part is done, rest is out of your control. If you look at most programs 2-3 years is preferred. By the time you start you would have around 2.
  10. Got accepted this evening. Super excited! Don't forget to join the group on facebook guys.
  11. I just got my email. Waitlist for a DFW only clinical spot. Super disappointed but better than declined.
  12. Guest, which clinical site did you apply for/get? When did you interview?
  13. I just got the “you’re in” email. Best news ever. Congratulations on all those who have been accepted. For those who are still waiting and does rejected. Do not give up. Have faith in God and he will see you through this. Class of 2022, I can’t wait to meet you all and hopefully form lifelong friendship with everyone on. Go RAMA!

I am 67 soon to be 68. I interviewed for 2 positions and received job offers for both. I had not worked for 3 years, Ageism has not been my experience. I thought it would be a problem! We must be careful how we project ourselves. Be confident be proud of your experience, be willing to learn new ideas and don’t be afraid of technology.

I am faced with ageism on a daily basis from my younger colleagues to management. I feel there is no escape, and after 43 years, am being pushed out....
  17. I am absolutely nervous for the writing too! Good Luck everyone! Looking forward to meeting some of you Jan 31st!

I agree with ataymil8. I am in my mid 50s and have been a nurse manager for many years. Most of the time it boils down to finances not necessarily ageism.
  19. Did anyone have to write a short answer to an abstract? What was that like? Any tips?
  20. Glad to see others are nervous about the interview after that email! I've been out of school for awhile so the writing part will be hardest for me. Hoping to hear how the 1/30 interview go! please share! I interview 2/13. I also wish I knew how many interviews offers they extended.
  21. How can you tell many spots were taken? If someone doesn't respond to the invite do they forfeit their interview spot?
  22. Dear SRNA’s, Do you recommend doing chemistry classes before starting school?
  23. I’m in as well! I got a call at 5:47 OHSU time! Congrats everyone and I can’t wait to meet you all!
