Dear SRNA’s,

Do you recommend doing chemistry classes before starting school?

Yes! As a matter of fact, organic chem and biochem are prerequisites on most nurse anesthesia programs!

is this different then the bichem and organic chem we take as part of getting a BSN?

Its different in a way that most nursing schools only require a semester of general chemistry. Unless things have changed, I don't remember nursing schools requiring ochem or biochem. However, most anesthesia programs only require introductory ochem or biochem so as long as you get a semester of each, you're good.

oh cool! My nursing school required a year of Gen Chem and then a semester of both intro biochem and ochem

If you have a choice, I would recommend getting the Chemistry courses out of the way before starting your program so that you can focus on the core courses and not try to juggle Chemistry courses.
