I was issued my TN status yesterday. It seems like there was nothing easy about this process. If you are not educated in the US some states require further credential verification by CGFNS. In NY, where I will be working, they required CVS before they issued a NY nursing license. I did not need a SSN. I found out when applying for work that prospective employers would not look at me until I had a current license to work in that state. Once I did I found employment quite quickly. I also spent over 4 hours at the border, numerous questions and waiting. They thoroughly checked my documents, employer's website and had me write out a list of job duties with percentages of time spent on each. At the end I was told they could see I had done all the right things but there are many people that don't come prepared. I was also told that you need to come to the border ready to work the next day so, to me, that means having your US license in place as well as your other documents. Feel free to ask me other questions, I have been working on this for a long time !

It took me 8 months and I received it this January. I was educated in Canada. After the status showed ready for final review I started phoning and that seemed to help...if you can get hold of someone.

You will need to get a Visascreen done by CGFNS before a TN can be issued and I think Arizona requires it before issuing a license or authority to test. I would give the board of nursing a call. I have Minnesota and NY licences and am applying for my first TN next month. Hope that helps and good luck!

I work with a british nurse who has been in BC less than one year. Try Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia and see if you can speak with a nurse recruiter in HR.

I'm moving to NY in 3 weeks and feel I truly have been offered my "dream" job. I didn't start applying until after my NY license was issued and I had the visa screen. Be prepared to explain what the TN visa is and it's helpful to provide written information on it, I didn't find one potential employer that was familiar with it. Good luck with your search ~

I've passed the NCLEX, have the Visascreen, NY license was issued in January (after completing the CVS) and now have an offer of a wonderful job in NY. Start date is April 15th and I plan to leave Canada on April 11th. Am meeting with an immigration lawyer on Friday for assistance with the letter of employment. For any of you who have been through this process, any advice? I live in BC and have found crossing the border an intimidating and potentially lengthy process. I'm thinking of flying from Vancouver as they have been better than at land crossings. Just trying to arm myself with as much info as possible ! Thanks for your help

I was in the process of endorsing my license to NC, where my partner lives,had a job interview arranged for the 22nd...when said partner advises he has been offered a great position in Manhatten! I am happy for him as his field has experienced set backs due to the economy but now I don't know what to do! I am still here working in Canada, passed the NCLEX in October and received a Minnesota License. I've looked at the websites for both NJBON and NYBON - the paperwork seems daunting - NJ's package is 17 pages long. Any advice of which to try and endorse to? I was able to speak to someone in NY but there doesn't seem to be a way to get any live assistance in NJ. I don't really comprehend the SSN issue, I could get a TN with a job offer letter (my Visa Screen Certificate is complete) -then do I apply for the SSN and then the license?? Is so I couldn't work until the license is issued so I would be in the US but not employable? Should I even bother applying for work if I don't have the appropriate state license? :(I'm just running out of energy to keep this paper process going. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Passed last month in 75 questions in about one hour...guess that makes me one of the 45% of "foreigners" !

I graduated in 1989 from my nursing program in Canada and have worked almost exclusively in psychiatry since then. I passed the NCLEX on Oct.17/08. I took 3 months off to study and was almost paralyzed by anxiety the day of the exam. I did Kaplan and Saunders and it worked. Hang in there, you can do it!

I did the Kaplan complete course and really found it helpful - also did the 4 day in class sessions and liked it. I did sign up for NCSBN but honestly didn't use it very much. I did use Saunders as outlined in Suzanne's plan. I passed (in 75 questions) on October 17th and really felt it was all about critical thinking which is the focus of the Kaplan program. Thank you so much! Mikhy and I "met" here on the board and were exchanging questions and answers before the test. It is so amazing to me to be able to share thoughts and feelings with nurses all over the world. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you waiting for results and writing the exam. BE POSITIVE!!

I took the Kaplan program last month. Did the online QBank and question trainers. Also did 4 days in class and would highly recommend it. The instructor was terrific - made things easy to understand, reinforced the online material. The method for answering questions takes a little time to get used to but really helps you to focus. I also did Saunders. For me, it was all very helpful and helped build confidence and I did pass the NCLEX. Good luck to you

I took mine on the 17th and found out today that I passed, also in 75 questions. I really did not have a great feeling when I left. Trust that you know your "stuff" !! I tried to just keep busy all weekend to try and get the constant nclex thoughts out of my head. Hang in there !!

I didn't think my results would be in yet as I took my test Friday morning but thought I would give the Pearson site a try. I'm still shaking and crying....I PASSED. After over 2 years of travelling back and forth from British Columbia to North Carolina I can now get my TN Visa and have a life with my partner. I'm in shock!. I arrived back in Canada yesterday after taking a 3 month leave of absence to study - today it's back to work - at a community mental health centre that I love being at and will hate to leave but....I guess love conquers all, even at my age. Took the NCLEX this morning. Stopped at 75 questions, I felt like I was just getting into it! I think there were 3 or 4 SATA and one of the most complex medication questions I have ever seen. I go home to Canada on Sunday and the wait for the results begins....Good luck to all of you...

You could try www.healthmatchbc.org - it's a provincial organization that recruits for healthcare professionals. On that site are links to all of the different health authorities throughout British Columbia. You would probably need to have been approved by CRNBC or CPRNBC and have an interim permit before getting sponsorship. I'm currently on leave from Fraser Health and in North Carolina - returning next week. I've worked with lots of nurses from the Phillipines and to the best of my knowledge they needed to have their interim permit first. Hope that helps!

I'm Canadian and will be writing my NCLEX next week. I want to work in NC. I received my ATT through Minnesota. I've just started applying for work and found out today that Minnesota is not a compact state. I was advised by the NC nursing board to go ahead with the NCLEX and license through Minnesota and then apply for endorsement. I've done a partial application on their website. Does anyone know what will be involved in this process and how long it will take? Will I need to now go through another credentialling process? I have an employer that will give me an offer letter for the TN visa but not until I get my NC license. I have been on a 3 month leave of absence from my job in Canada and need to go back soon, I'm trying to get as much done as I can while I'm here in NC. Thanks for your help.

I'm from Vancouver and will be writing the NCLEX on October 17rh in Charlotte, NC. I took the Kaplan program here in Charlotte and have been using Saunders and Mosby's as well. My advice is write it as soon as you can - it's been tough studying the material after all these years but I did come in with high scores in my Kaplan class. Good luck to you!:)
